You have been illumined

Yeah, I honestly appreciate the work by Interesting Read/Continued/Con tinued/Continued/ but . . . Somebody please decipher it and let me know the gist of it, 'cuz I don't like reading very much at all. If that makes me a lazy a$$ too, well, that's what I be. . . . kh  (Yesterday | post #11)

how the lincoln centers activity department is such a mess

I had to deal with a local nursing home for 20 months and, while nothing comes close to being perfect for the resident or their family, I'd have to give the facilty I'm talking about a very low B- or an even C for overall everything. Except being sh!tty about stuff out of the blue, like: "Don't forget, you owe us $22. Pay immediatey." One thing I noticed as far as employees - and if this ain't totally assbackward nothing is - it seemed like the ones who truly cared about the residents, those who showed compassion, made sure the person's bath was a good one, made sure the poor eater ate well at virtually every meal . . . those seemed to be the employees that got f-*-d with by management?!? Even let go, or forced to quit because of the bull---- they had to endure?!? All I can say is, why??? What the he!l is that? Maybe it's changed since then. I hope I don't ever have to find out. I'd love to do volunteer time/work at a nursing home, but I get too attached to the residents that I just can't do it. Anyway . . . that's my 2-cents worth on this thread - so far. . . . kh  (Yesterday | post #123)

That, 'Villian, is the price you must pay if you bring humor and some common sense to this board. There's always a bad side to everything. Ain't that a blip!?! . . . kh  (Monday | post #16)

Good Coaches???

ex-player - I hope you truly are a former Spartan under Klein's leadership - well, sorry, 'cuz that ain't a nice thing to wish on any scholastic-age, student-athlete - but I'm really glad to read what you and gradebathlete wrote. If the comments are legit, that just supports what many people on Topix and around C'ville have been saying for two+ years - fire coach Klink before he can set back the Spartans hoop program any more than he already has. But remember, overcoming the 'Noble Connection' link is something that might be impossible. Let's hope the he!l not. . . . kh  (Monday | post #202)

1973 CLASS REUNION

jman is right . . . sort of. The guys mentioned definitely had 'power' in whatever was going on back in '73. Just goin' by what I've always heard, which, what I heard back then, always seemed very likely to be factual, as well as things I overheard said by various people 'in the know' on a legitimate level. Anyway, on topic: I haven't heard anything about a Class of '73 reunion, but I rarely - actually almost never - talk to anybody from my graduating class, so . . . The last one I went to was No. 20 - in '93. Was there a 30th reunion in 2003? I don't remember reading or hearing anything about one. Can a '73 brother get any answers to the questions? . . . . . . kh  (Monday | post #8)

who is our new fair queen?

I don't know anything about the Rockwell girl besides the fact it seems some people are jealous of her, but I have to say I think your post is excellent CHS grad, because it points out that no one on here - no matter how good a person is or how evil they are - is gonna escape getting ripped apart. Guaranteed. ************ Love-and-Hate C'ville - it's sad as hell, ain't it? . . . kh  (Sunday Jul 20 | post #23)

who is our new fair queen?

Well, you sorta got it about my compliment to O'Rouke about how pretty I think she is. When I wrote what I did about her I clearly stated that I was basing that opinion on photos in the N-Ex., not from seeing her in "real life." As pretty as she looks in photos, I can't imagine there's a big difference in pics and "real life." Let me ask: Were you eligible to be in the contest? If yes, why weren't you? . . . kh  (Sunday Jul 20 | post #18)

Tired of local paper interviewing ex-visteon union hacks

We all forget things, Brother, but as D&M was closing I wrote more than one story about workers right at the time it was closing and closed. Tom Creech was one of the people I interviewed; I can't remember the other two or three names. Numerous guys declined to be interviewed. I also wrote a column titled "It wasn't Sammy's Place that closed," that basically detailed how White Consolidated, and whatever the name of the Luxemborg? company that put the final nail in the coffin here. The reason the Visteon people are getting more play now is because - unlike D&M - it was the last, and largest employer to fold in what definitely is now a dying community. Maybe something will break for Fayette County and we'll get some kind of business here that will employ a decent amount of people, and pay a decent, livable wage. The latter statement is important as far as any 'jobs' that do come here. . . . kh  (Saturday Jul 19 | post #41)

Realtors

All I know is I don't understand how local realtors can make any kind of living by selling houses in this county. And - go ahead, pile on - but while I have no vandettas(sp?) against any realtors, I agree with 'Villian. I imagine the transaction of selling the house is the primary thought on the realtor's mind, not whether the people can afford to live there very long. To me that just seems like business. If realtors selling houses/property in C'ville would hedge on completing the deal because they were concerned about the client's ability to make the payments, well . . . I don't think that happens. And I don't think it happens in any other community. . . . kh  (Saturday Jul 19 | post #30)

who is our new fair queen?

Based on the photos in the N-Ex, I thought Emily O'Rourke was the prettiest candidate, but we all know the contest isn't based solely upon looks. At least it shouldn't be. But in my opinion Miss O'Rourke is a very beautiful young lady. curious - I don't know if a contestant was a repeat performer from last year but I'd say with only 14 girls in the contest, there was room for many more entries if any gals wanted to give it a shot. Unless there is a 14-contestant limit, which I doubt. I remember when 20-some young women, maybe even 30, sought the coveted crown and subsequent appearance at the state fair. To people in my age range, that's like a different lifetime ago. I think it's accurate to say the number of contestants has dwindled somewhat significantly over the years. . . . kh  (Saturday Jul 19 | post #7)

What's the "no names" big secret? It was a front page story. The name of the guy in question is Mike Kirkendall. All I know about the dude is what I read in the story. Hard tellin' what "the other plumber" or others who know him will have to say. I also agree the N-Ex should tell some 'bad' stories about ex-Visteoners, because I'm sure there are more of them than the "Hey, things are great now, blah, blah, blah." Maybe Kelly P., the GM at the N-Ex, will read this thread and have a not-so-great story assigned to someone, a story(or series) more about what it's probably like for more ex-Visteon workers than not. . . . kh  (Friday Jul 18 | post #30)

jail

es la bella - The thing about Harold is it's actually a surprise to me that he didn't win election to whatever office he ran for. Ya gotta admit, you really wouldn't, or shouldn't (we are in Fayette County, after all) be surprised if he won election to some position if he ran again. That being said - this post, along with the other comments I've written tonight - are in no way an intentional attempt to ridicule Harold Steele, although I'm sure many people will disagree. I always got along very well with Harold, and he was always "open door" with me and, I think, always straight with me and very cooperative and helpful when something was going on. That's during AND after the jail takeover fiasco. So, while it was enjoyable to re-live an experience that forever will be etched into my brain, I didn't mean to do it at Harold's expense. But . . . some people will say he was sheriff at the time, so . . . . . . kh  (Wednesday Jul 16 | post #42)

She's got the look

Do you have "the look" like the 'older' dollbabies on the recent TV Land 35-and-over model special? Just jivin.' That doesn't matter at all. You're welcome to the Connersville Forum and we hope you enjoy your stay. Good luck. . . . kh  (Wednesday Jul 16 | post #4)

jail

es la bella - That's a really good question. I know one of the demands was for alcohol, but I honestly can't recall what else the knuckleheads asked for. Probably something preposterous. If it was for a short sentence, their request was not honored. By the way, the really bad thing for me back then was . . . the jail takeover fiasco happened before a federal law (I think) mandated that N-Ex employees receive overtime pay for anything over 40 hours. Oh yeah. Don't forget. Even after this embarassing mess, Harold was re-elected as sheriff. I guess what others have said is very true . . . only in Connersville. . . kh  (Wednesday Jul 16 | post #31)
