left turn signals?! this isn't naperville. this is a city. it is not meant for your car. chicago is a real city with pedestrians and walkable neighborhoods. you belong in in schaumburg, or, better yet, atlanta. the american suburban mindset is really sad.  (Apr 23, 2009 | post #36)

Chicago revitalization plan: Despite uncertainties, $15.5 billi...

looks terrific. i won't read the other comments. i am sure the ignoratti suburbanites who have never been to another country -- let alone (gasp!) socialist europe -- are complaining about the "waste" of sinking money into public transit. fine. stay out in dupage or kendall counties or waste away in one of the mccities of the sunbelt. (really, someone explain to me how dallas, atlanta, charlotte, or any city in fla (outside of miami) is different from the other). anyways. off my rant and back to my enthusiasm for this project. it is about time our 100-year old system got a face lift.  (Apr 23, 2009 | post #34)

Durbin may ask Bush to commute Ryan sentence

big picture, mary. big picture. he also saved wrongly-accused from being put to death. he was also in favor of gun control, as guns in the home also result in children dying. there is abject poverty in cuba due to our anachronistic policy towards them. (before you call me a commie sympathizing lib -- i'm not -- remember that another communist country essentially owns us, so it is not the politics of the matter for me.)  (Nov 26, 2008 | post #21)

Durbin may ask Bush to commute Ryan sentence

as a democrat, i hope ryan is freed. i genuinely admired his work *as governor*. horrific things happened while he was sec of state, and i will admit that this may not be the most reasoned-out case. however, his recognition of a broken judiciary and enacting a moratorium on the death penalty was politically courageous. as was his traveling to Cuba to reopen ties with that country. A country starving because of our ridiculous -- and ridiculously outdated -- embargo on cuba.  (Nov 26, 2008 | post #19)

McCain, Palin appeal to thousands of GOP faithful

socialists taking over the country? like the bush administration, one of the most -- if not the most -- reactionary and right-wing governments we have seen in this country? also, john, you're wrong, ayers *is* just a guy in the neighborhood. who is now a well-respected education *professor* at uic. even a local republican state congresswoman came to his defense. what about mccain's radical healthcare policy where healthcare woul be taxed ... oh, right, republicans do not care about Actual Issues. only patriotism, terrorists (which they are good at creating), "joe six pack" and who they would like to have a beer with. surely not someone who went to harvard, graduated near the top of his class (mccain? 894 out of 899 at the naval academy who crashed his planes *four times* before the fifth time when he was captured in vietnam) and headed the harvard law review. this country is fast-becoming, if we are not already there, an idiocracy.  (Oct 9, 2008 | post #3)

Palin says attack on Obama's association with 1960s radical is ...

just shows how stupid this country is after her pathetic speech -- she was not debating -- on thursday night could be well-regarded by anybody with two brain cells to rub together, which is at least one more brain cell that she has. where was she on the sunday news shows today? i thought she was ready to speak openly, or some such nonsense that she regularly spews. lastly, she is sleeping with a man who thinks that america is so "imperfect " that he wants alaska to secede from th union, and she has spoken at their conference! at least the annenberg challenge is a charitable group. ah, right, here come the unsubstantiated charges that obama and ayers funneled that money for private use. all while our economy is melting down. boggles the mind. obama must take mccain out on tuesday.  (Oct 5, 2008 | post #35)

Tina Fey reprises role as Palin on 'SNL' parodying GOP VP candi...

it would be funny if fey's portrayal weren't so accurate. palin didn't answer a single question that she was asked. if republicans disagree, palin said herself she was not going to answer the questions the way she would be expected to or the way the moderator would expect her to. palin, was able to spout off memorized talking points in complete sentences and the right proclaims "sarah's back!" and "sarah rocks!" (michelle malkin). the right has no leg to stand on with issues, but they know that this country is not intelligent enough to really pay attention to what is said. i guess i am an elitist, but as a great man once said, the truth has liberal bias. now i guess we will hear more about obama's tenuous relationship to bill ayers and wright. this is where obama should bring up mccain's holocaust-drnying pastor and charles keating. unfortunately, obama is a man of principle and will prrobably continue with his ridiculous statement of "facts" and "points of action" and "addressing exactly what he would do as president".  (Oct 5, 2008 | post #31)

Obama pulls away to 7-point lead, AP poll shows, as economy pus...

no kidding. still, we have a black man with the name barack hussein obama beating all-american white kid who is named john mccain. i don't care if he ends up losing by 7 points as long as he takes the electoral college. sadly, i think the republicans will steal yet another election. they've already started their machinations in swing states.  (Oct 1, 2008 | post #33)

eh? almost 2/3rd's of the dems supported, whereas almost 2/3rd's of republicans ... ah ... i see what you may be doing. you're being intellectually dishonest as numerically there are more democrats if you are talking opposal in sheer numbers. (not sure if this is the case or not, as i haven't gone back to the numbers.) anyways, my first paragraph stands. whether that is good or bad, i don't know. not sure what to make of this bailout.  (Oct 1, 2008 | post #30)
