'We're Sorry'--Apology For Slavery: Too Little, Too Late

I agree completely that they are the center of the problem.  (Sunday Nov 22 | post #7636)

'We're Sorry'--Apology For Slavery: Too Little, Too Late

I hate that slavery went the way that it did. But how does something that happened 150 years ago make it right to discriminate on me now? I wish that it wouldn't have happened, but how does that make it ok for me to not have the same opportunities to go to college because I'm white? How is that not a racist act? Why does there have to be black women in the Miss USA pagent when white women are not allowed in the Miss Black USA pagent? Not to say that what happened was right, but does it right a wrong to create another wrong? If so, just how does that work?  (Friday Nov 13 | post #7488)

'We're Sorry'--Apology For Slavery: Too Little, Too Late

The real issue here is this: How many black Americans were personally affected by slavery? None of them were slaves. So what does it affect now? Nothing. Just let it go. It's over and done with.  (Friday Nov 13 | post #7486)

Fort Hood Anti-Muslim Backlash Immediate

I completely agree. Support the troops and pray for peace. I spent 4.5 years in the Marine Corps, and was more or less here six months and gone six months. That really took it's toll on everything. I would never trade the things that I have done for another path, but being gone that much was one of the reasons that I decided to part ways when my enlistment was over. I extended for the MEU that we were going on right before I got out. Honestly, the being gone all of the time thing was pretty rough. I only had one enlistment and had two combat deployments and a trip to Haiti that for some reason they didn't call a deployment. There's 18 months "deployed " out of 54 months service. plus the workups and all that they entail. I wish that there was a way that we could get these jobs done, but give our troops some more time at home in the US also. Maybe someday.  (Sunday Nov 8 | post #743)

Susan Reimer: Call off the dogs; Vick has paid enough

"If we just punish Mike indefinitely and don't pivot to this problem in the communities, where kids are victimizing these dogs and then going down a dead-end street themselves, because there are no heroic dogfighters, we will not be doing our job. And I felt we needed to get involved and we needed to do some creative things to reach these kids. So that's why we have our community based programs. And I am really hopeful that Mike sticks with this and reaches these kids because he can turn some of them around. I really do believe that," Pacelle explained. That's your head of the humane society. Even he says that you can't condemn Vick for ever. And in that interview he said that he was introduced to it at the age of 8. Not that he was taking part in it, but that he saw others doing it and adults doing it, so that made it look like it was ok when he got older. His kennel had only been running for 6 years. That's the only ammount of time that anyone knows that he was actually involved in it. He might have been earlier he might not have. We do not know. And here is the link to the interview that is on the 60 minutes web site http://www.cbsnews .com/stories/2009/ 08/10/60minutes/ma in5231257.shtml?ta g=contentMain;cont entBody  (Friday Nov 6 | post #681)

But you are not making a big deal about the people that go out and kill PEOPLE every day. Why is it that you believe that animals are more important that PEOPLE? I never said that what Vick did was right, nor did I say that it wasn't a big deal. What I have said is that he has paid his price according to the court system, and no one knows if he will do it again. If you really wanted this kind of thing to stop, you would support him turning from it. Not condemning him for something that is said and done, the price has been paid for, and he shows an attempt to try to turn away from. The more support that he can get to turn away from it the easier it will be for him to not return to it. Put any normal person in his shoes.... You committed a crime and went to jail for it. Lost every dime that you had, and when you get out of jail trying to do things the right way, all you hear is how you are still guilty and should be killed. How would that behavior encourage anyone to stay away from what they did? I would be thinking "well everyone thinks I'm still doing it anyways, why not?" But if people would support him as long as he is not doing it, that would lead to change.  (Friday Nov 6 | post #679)

I'n not defending anyone. What Vick did was wrong, but he paid the price for it, and no one really knows if he will ever do it again. He has a chance to get away from it. Only time will tell if he does or not.  (Friday Nov 6 | post #678)

So you were there when he started it all? You don't know how long he did it or when it all started. If the prison system is not going to rehabilitate people like it's designed to do, then let's just get rid of it. If it is not going to serve it's purpose then why have it. You don't know if his mind has changed or not. I don't know either. He might aget back into it, he might not. All that I'm saying is that you do not know everything that you think that you know about him, and that only time will tell if he gets back into it or not. I hope that he does not, but it sounds like you hope that he does.  (Friday Nov 6 | post #677)

Opinions vary on Obama receiving peace prize

No I chose this name in part because I am proud to have had a chance to serve this country in its finest service. And in part because I believe that you are not only disgracing my country but also my Marine Corps. Just how in the world could Obama be responsible for Ford's huge profits? They refused to take any of his money. They let the FREE MARKET decide what happened with them. They made the smart decisions, and the MARKET approved of them. Obama did NOTHING, like usual, and yet you think that he saved the world. Purely PATHETIC.  (Friday Nov 6 | post #123)

Whoa, whoa, whoa... Lets get something straight here. If you were in any way related to me, you would have had some common sense instilled into you somewhere. So, that is no where near a possibility. No one that I associate with is as ANTI-AMERICAN as you are and I would not tollerate being around someone as ANTI-AMERICAN as you. I joined the Marine Corps to do what I could to help America to prosper. That is not a decision that I take lightly. I refuse to step back and let people with thought processes like yours step up and destroy the country that I love so much. I will do everything within my power to stop that mindset and allow for America to prosper. If it is better for this country that the POTUS's ideas fail, then I am for that. But I only want that failure because it is best for this country.  (Friday Nov 6 | post #122)

Opinions vary on Obama receiving peace prize

Let's get a couple of things straight. I chose this name to try and show people that the real Marines out there don't share your crazy opinions. So it was more of an insult to you than out of admiration. Secondly, I in no way hope that this country fails. Just Obamas lunatic ideas. How anyone that has ever defended the constitution could ever support that guy just puzzles me. He is as anti American as they come. He completely disgraced the United States with all of his appologizing to all these countries for nothing. Telling them all how this country is so sorry. That turns my stomach. How has he saved the economy. Look at just the car industry. The only one that is doing halfway decent is Ford, who didn't take any stimulus money! I guess that Obama is responsible for their billion dollar third quarter too somehow, right? His ideas on health care reform are just crazy. He basically want's to punish the Americans who have gone out and got a job and are working to get healthcare coverage to help out the people who refuse to work. That's just a great idea. And with the healthcare thing, the government will have the power to take coverage away or change the individual coverage of anyone that they want to. That just doesn't sound right to me. So from where I sit, the treasonous ones are the nuts that support this kind of policy.  (Friday Nov 6 | post #117)

Racism plays its part

I don't care if Obama is purple, he is still a bad choice to be running this country. Race plays no part in that. He has accomplished nothing, except to spend a lot of money on bad ideas, and is single handedly trying to destroy this country.  (Friday Nov 6 | post #260)

All I'm saying is that you don't know what makes his brain tick. Just because he did something at one point, doesn't mean that he is doing it now. Prison was designed as a rehabilitation tool. So that after prisoners are done with their sentence, they should not return to their previous bad choices. You don't know if that change took place in Vick. Only time will tell that. For now he is an innocent free man that has made mistakes in his life.  (Friday Nov 6 | post #672)
