I'm from CT originally, now in NC. Oh and a year in Iowa. So I know each state is different. I was in CT when I went on disability but I was hospitalized at the time - hospital social workers handled the whole thing. Just so you know you can work and be on disability- there are restrictions tho. Iowa & CT had helpful, good services. NC is a nightmare. CA has got to be at least as good as CT and Iowa(I was in Iowa City - everything was covered) I would also go to the financial aid office and spell the situation out - bring doctors letters and a written copy of your academic , medical and employment history and the state of your finances. If you show them you are willing to work with them you might be able to defer or lower payments. The economy is shit now and you have extenuating circumstances show them that. Good luck - I hope things work out - I'm pulling for you. Keep me informed if you want or you can just bitch too. =) (Jan 28, 2009 | post #8)
No worries about the double post and you didn't talk too much. I can relate to a lot of what you wrote. I ended up at state schools after i was straight with Mount Holyoke about my Bipolar and hospitalization and they then decided they had accepted too many people. It took me 6 years in school within the span of 11 years to get my degree. As far as employment, I have fudged the time frame and have said that I took time off to travel and to help with family issues. One other thing, when explaining time needed off for doctors or "mental health" I have said that I have a chronic medical condition. I never say what and they have never asked. I have wanted to attend grad school but I'm frozen - afraid I'll screw it up. Currently I'm on disability. It embarrasses me and makes me angry. As you said: ❝I am at my wits end and cannot see a future where I'm successful because of this damned disease having destroyed my past.❞ I'm intelligent but Bipolar makes me look and feel like an incompetent person. All I can say is if you have a counselor/therapis t see if they have any connections that could help you. I wish I had better advice for you. (Jan 27, 2009 | post #6)
Obama Puts Different Twist on Lipstick
Not only is Obama NOT a Muslim but the original quote comes from Cheney: "As we say in Wyoming, you can put lipstick on a pig, but it's still a pig," quipped Vice President Dick Cheney in a stump speech yesterday, with reference to John Kerry's claims he would be a credible war president. Obama Puts Different Twist on Lipstick
I'm sorry isn't it Bush who has shredded our Constitution into a useless pile of crap and I think Ms Palin is the queen of pork... $27 million just when she was mayor and that lovely "bridge to nowhere" that she wanted until it became too unpopular but kept the close to $300 million for that. Really you need to watch real news and stop getting all your info from the GOP/ Fox News. (Sep 10, 2008 | post #304)
Has Anyone Tried Invega (Paliperidone) AKA Long-Acting Risperdal?
I was diagnosed at 14 (39 now) current meds are:lithium, lamictal, zoloft and other meds for a chronic intestinal condition. This combo works best for my bipolar at the time. I have, however, been on many different combos thru the years - some worked briefly others longer. Lithium has always worked best. To all of the above posters: You have to go with what works for you. Just because a drug is newer does not mean it will be better for you. Also sad to say a drug that works for one person with bipolar may not work for another. It's trial and error. Get a good psychiatrist - one you or your child (whoever the patient is) really feels comfortable with. Change doctors if there is no feeling of trust/comfort. *Laura* My manic phases manifest in anger as well as euphoria. My best advice is be patient with him but don't let him write off any nastiness with an excuse of "it's the bipolar" Any pharmacist can print out and/or explain drug interactions better than a doctor, unless the doctor has a degree in psycho-pharmacolog y. Get a second and if need be third opinions. Also make sure his psychiatric meds are monitored by a psychiatrist. People react differently to drugs. I was unable to tolerate abilify - horrid side effects. One other thing concerning differing medical opinions. If you don't feel confidant with any of your local doctors - go to a teaching hospital. You may have to travel but IMHO you get the best treatment there and most have outpatient facilities. Good Luck :-D (Mar 20, 2008 | post #32)
Should evolution be taught in high school?
and all the other creationist I posted this earlier no one got it so here .. again ... I'm too tired tonight to read all the posts, so if I'm repeating a post (or 2) oh well. Evolution should be taught. For one thing it is accepted as truth in the world-wide scientific community. The second point I will make is this ... The United States is NOT of christian origin(believe whatever you want but please read the CONSTITUTION 1st ) There is not one mention of God, Christ, Jesus, the bible except in the line of date- "the year of our lord" which was common practice at that time. There is seperation of church and state for a reason and it ensures that all people have the right to practice ANY religion. Evolution is not religion it is science. Creationism/ID is religion.period. And remember this - if you want your religious beliefs taught in the classroom you better make room. There are more religions than christianity in the USA and I bet they will want equal time. (Feb 27, 2008 | post #1020)

Chemical Signature of Bipolar Disorder
Ditto here Stephanie. I am Bipolar as well and agree an antidrepressant alone is a bad idea. You are lucky to not have had a really bad manic episode or a psychotic break. Medications for Bipolar patients can vary dramatically from patient to patient. In my own case I am currently on: Lithium, Zoloft and Lamictal. I live in NC now I moved here from CT ... the dosage and types of medications was very different up there. My meds changed not on a doctors whim but because of something in my enviroment. Sorry I'm rambling but the point I'm trying to make is this ... everyones Bipolar is different, dependant on various factors, do discuss a med change with the doctor but don't base the change on what works for your sister. And if you change meds and they don't seem to work then go back. And keep going back until it's right for you. This is a good website: http://www.bipolar world.net/ Good Luck :-D (Feb 26, 2008 | post #3)

This was a VERY biased survey. No organic farmers were included. I'm surprised they didn't limit the respondents to users of Roundup Ready users. (Feb 25, 2008 | post #1)

afterthought wrote: <quoted text> Our little portion of this thread began on the very subject spurrned on by a Canadian who claims that White Americans utilize African Americans effectively as disposable shields. What I'm digging at is that those who so often do pretend to adore African Americans while propogating only the very worst perceptions of their culture are in truth the same who do in fact use Black people as tools in their defeatist and abusive agenda. Not those whom he accuses at every instance where he may (we are rife with domestic culprits by the way, and Mr Canada is not at all unique to those within our own borders of the same method). What I'm pointing out is that he and his natural brethren hate us both alike (African Americans and Irish along with a host of other ethnicities of their secret revile, contempt, or mere regard of irrelevance). The fact that they pander to African Americans in all the very most destructive ways is merely the icing on this $hit cake. I do insert some contemporary examples of this lesser regard for the behalf of the Irish to bring the point home, and It's hard to miss the meaning ? Anyway, you say yourself what a considerable role the Irish have played in our armed services and over such an extended period ? Does it not seem a bit odd that Mr. Kenny Burns found it impossible to use the word Irish in the course of his 16 hr (or so) presentation in which he was never so amiss on any other account or for any other ethnicity ? Again and again and again and again ! Such a conspicuous effort was made (and I take no exception to those rightly given their own respect and due by name and ethnic association) in EVERY other instance ? He did interview Irish soldiers after all, and yet again unlike in EVERY other case throughout his entire presentation, he was unable to use even the word Irish ? I'll tell you what I think ? The same guy that's #ucking you (African Americans) is #ucking me ! The fact that he might pretend to adore you doesn't change a thing except in that selling perceptions on your (the African Americans) behalf might be profitable and self serving to his agenda while doing you no good (or even harm). Of course I say "you" often here in the rhetorical sense, but you get what I mean. You don't really think that you're adored the way others are courted and swooned upon, do you ? I myself find it hard to avoid the fact that my culture is ridiculed in every subtle sneaky way imaginable by those who don't have to come right out and say it. It's easier for those who hold sway to simply erode popular regard by the edges while appearing ever sanctimoneous.< end quoteTo My Left Foot - I take issue with the lithium comment(I'm Bipolar) I think anti-psychotics would be more useful in Afterthoughts case. (wink, wink) (Feb 24, 2008 | post #584)

You could have given Houdini a run for his money. That was amazing. You took a comment on bigots and turned it around into a political comment while adding your own racist observations all on a GENETICS/SCIENCE forum. Bravo. I hate going off thread but you insisted so ... One should not take the perceived guilt of one man and attach it to another thru a very laborious chain of connection. It makes you appear ignorant. Oh one more thing. I would think if he was gutless and spineless he would just be a puddle of flesh, thereby being incapable of doing anything -not necessarily by choice so most likely not a coward. Have a great day. (Feb 16, 2008 | post #27)
Excellent answer you poor excuse for a human .... see there I did the same thing you did, passed a judgement without knowing all the info. However, I put the spin of sarcasm into my answer. Just a little something extra to show my love. (Feb 16, 2008 | post #25)
