Hopium helps you forget several unpleasant facts
John, you better trademark that "Hopium" name before someone else snags it! Outstanding piece! (Wednesday Jul 30 | post #160)
Obama: `little doubt' country in recession
So Obama's solution is what? I don't hear a solution from him. I only hear a new definition of "recession " that is designed to frighten people into voting for him. (Sunday Jul 13 | post #16)
2 shot in Loop after fireworks, Taste let out
One million attendees spending an average of $20 each equals $20 million. That should be enough for 3,000 officers to fill the vacancies so that they can hunt down all the gang bangers and lock them up. Unless of course the city is fibbing big time over the one million attendees figure. One million people crammed into that area all at once? I don't think so, Oh wait! I forgot. The clean up costs are probably awarded through a pal of Daley's. The set up costs are probably awarded through a pal of Daley's. The trucks are all owned by pals of Daley's, etc. etc. etc. leaving zero for police and citizen protection. The organizers are companies who are pals of Daley. Isn't that how the city REALLY works? House votes down pay raise for lawmakers
My representative Karen May voted for a pay increase and against the bill to deny the pay increase. Only 8 voted in favor of it. If you feel that you are underpaid Ms. May, then resign from office and earn that part time pay in the private sector. Not too many part time jobs pay that type of salary. Karen May has an excellent opponent who understands the principle of a "citizen-serv ant" being elected as a legislator, and not acting like a "citizen-serv e-me" type. His name is Tim Stratton. Everyone in our District should be voting for him instead of voting for "she who is unhappy with her pay Karen May." (May 8, 2008 | post #18)
Up in Lake County our three Democratic Senators claim to be independent of the "Chicago Democrats" who run this state, yet they always quietly follow their wishes and desires. It would be nice to see all three of them stand up and do more than make noise on these issues. They should try voting on them. Their pretenses here are getting tiresome. (Apr 28, 2008 | post #1)
Cubs keep Fontenot, cut Cintron; Murton odd man out -- Contract...
I haven't been too wild about the Cubs overspending at the expense of their younger players. They payed way too much for one starter they didn't even use in the playoffs and who had to fight to be the fifth starter. They paid too much for a right fielder from Japan who basically will do little more than Mat Murton can do for them now. They paid way too much for a leadoff hitter and centerfield who ended up playing in left and spent a season misjudging flyballs and avoiding the wall when he wasn't on the disabled list. Send Matt Murton to the minors? They have a good core of young players they can win with. They are hungry and want to play. Not fat with big contracts and secure. I can remember when the Cubs started a second baseman at third and he started the season 0-26. He's now in the Hall of Fame. The modern Cubs would have shuttled him back and forth to the minors until they ruined him. Just like they are ruining Murton and Pie. And they have ruined Cedeno. It will be another heartbreak season. (Mar 27, 2008 | post #15)
