Alaska tourists, fewer, spending less mone

The tour companies have most of the tourists locked in/up anyways. They own the buses and the hotels they own or get huge fees from all the day tours/day activity operators they push. A lot of the people they employee are from out of state and they pay little taxes and the taxes they do pay(i.e. cruise head tax) they complain about and threaten to sue us over. I for one enjoy less people here in Anchorage in the summer. Sure it means less money in the local economy however its nice not having to deal with the crowds/traffic.  (Sep 29, 2009 | post #2)

What if I I told you I pay out of pocket for my health insurance??? Yes I have a job and work hard however, the Federal Government is not here to give hand-outs to its people. Knowing the history of our Government do you really think this "insurance " they are going to "give us" will come without any strings attached? Just look at how our federal government uses money to control the states. Take highway funds for example every time the Federal Government wants a State to do something with roads or drivers it simple threatens to take away its money. Can you imaging what this would translate to with health insurance. Even if they allow me the option not to participate in a plan, my rates will still go up and so will my taxes.  (Aug 23, 2009 | post #12)
