Dental Tourism in Costa Rica

I am sorry that I have not been on this thread for so long. For some reason I am not getting the updates when people post. I also have no laptop at this time. My teeth are doing fine. At one point maybe around 8 months ago I did have a crown come off when I was using the water pick. I had the permanent crown cement that I bought from Dr. Marco's and I just put it back on. No problem since and no trip back to Costa Rica to get my crown put back on. One day I do hope to make it back to Costa Rica. I do not regret going there for my dental work I think it was one the best decisions I have made. Best Wishes to all. Ms. K, No problems with my implants. Metal problems may become more profound because of all the things we now have flowing in our airwaves. I do not the ability of it to impact what type of metals or which ones are more receptors. I hope you find a solution.  (Sep 23, 2014 | post #631)

Thank you Greg for your post. If you live in Arizona and are not concerned about the crime in Mexico it may be less costly to go there. I am not sure. Just really do your homework as I have heard good and bad stories from Mexico dental travel. Best Wishes to you in your adventure and getting the smile you desire.  (Nov 7, 2013 | post #583)

Thank you so very much for that update. To me it is comforting to know that the Dr. Marco and Dr. Cavallini still stand behind their work and still back their work. Problems can and do occur with any dentist. This was also one of the important reasons why I wanted to go to this clinic. They seem to keep their word. Please do keep us updated on your progress. Best wishes to you my friend  (Nov 7, 2013 | post #582)

Sorry it has been a while since I have posted. I am so happy to read of success stories of those who have wonderful happy, healthy smiles. KP Patel, So sorry to hear about your problems. Did you get the travelers insurance? I would definitely contact Dr. Marco and let him know what is happening with your implants. So far mine are doing fine. Could they replace the whole six crowns? I believe I have some of the one piece crowns also. Please do follow up and let us know how Dr. Marco is handling your problems. Let us know if the problem is resolved to your satisfaction or not. I hope they will take good care of you. Jerry, It sounds as if though you are very busy. Best wishes to you in your travels.  (Nov 2, 2013 | post #570)

KPPatel, I would ask Dr. Marco about transportation and see if he can do something to help with the hotel cost. Maybe he could cut you a good deal if you stay at the clinic. Email Dr. Marco I did not have the insurance because when I asked Diana about it she did not know anything about it. Sorry you are having this problem. I bought some permanent cement in the event I ever have a crown fall off. I had that happen with my crown and work in the states and no one would just clean it up and put it back on. I told dentist I would sign for the responsibility but I wanted it on since I was running in an election and they wanted to do more than what I asked for. I do not want to be in that spot ever again. If it falls off for any reason I can cement it back on until I have the work done. Please keep us updated on how this is being taken care of.  (Jun 5, 2013 | post #491)

Oh Oh! I have been eating popcorn. Last time at the movie theater it was terrible we did not even finish it. I had not read not to eat popcorn. Maybe I need to look into that.  (Jun 2, 2013 | post #477)

KPPatel, So glad you got your problem resolved. Sorry I was not any help. I use either Listerine or Plax mouthwash and put some in my waterpic water. Did the dentist say what the difference in the implants they use here are? I know we have not been doing the one step implants that long here in the states. Just curious. I know I have sent X-rays of my implants to two U.S. dentist they did not even know that Zirconia implants existed.  (May 29, 2013 | post #473)

Welcome everyone new! Thi, Thank you for the update. Please continue to post on the thread about your dental journey. I know sometimes the dental plan can change but usually it is less costly not more. Sometimes seeing you in person vs an X-ray and going over your options it can change. It did with mine also. Best wishes! Jon, Congratulations on booking your trip. Please keep us updated on your trip. I am sorry I have been so very busy lately. Unfortunately just when I think things are calming down my mother broke her hip yesterday. Thank you for those veterans of Dental Tourism who are posting to help new people seeking answers to their questions.  (Apr 8, 2013 | post #417)

There were one or two post prior to this by Lorelei739. Then this post Lorelei739 Nov 21, 2010 Post #1136 "wondering if anyone has had the 'posts' implanted for the dentures by Dr. Anglada and would you mind sharing your experience. I have had this first phase done at the end of May and all of 'the posts' have fallen out. Wondering if this is typical or if I have done something to cause this." Next post in which after she posted it was asked who the dentist was she did not respond more than likely did not want to be bashed. Lorelei739Jan 16, 2011 Post #1255 "Hi everyone - love reading all the 'stories'. I was in CR for my first phase in July - I already had full dentures and had wanted to so something to get rid of them and I opted for the 'over-dentures'. I had 9 implants and am due to return early this year for the 'over-denture' part - but I have been so miserable with wearing my current dentures over the implants that I'm starting to think that I 'should have' gone for the total implants and have permanent teeth. okay, so I may be vain, but 'dentures' are not for me. I am also looking to go to another CR dentist, but I'm having difficulty getting the required info about the make/model of the implants that the previous CR dentist put in - does anyone have any experience on 'changing' CR dentists and getting the necessary info from one to the other - I hope I'm making sense. I have tried emailing the original dentist in CR but I guess my questions already have them thinking that I am 'changing' dentists. any thoughts? I'm not a pushy person and I don't think I should have to continually ask for this information - urghh " So from that last post it would appear that she not only had failures but was also upset about the way it was being handled after the fact. I do not know how this ladies saga ended I hope it ended happy for her wherever she went. And I did not bash those that are happy with Dr. Anglada's work more power to them but I am tired of those doing that here on this thread for people who are happy or satisfied with Dr. Cavallini's and Dr. Marco's work. As far as looks of the teeth my are far from chicklet teeth but I do not at Dr. Cavallini's clinic if you chose to use someone else to do your crowns you will not be treated rudely which is another statement found somewhere within this thread more than once by different posters. Best wishes to all whatever dentist you use.  (Mar 13, 2013 | post #3609)

Wonderchild/Jane Feb 14, 2011 Post number #1523 "I just want to say that after seeing Drs Cavallini last week for an implant and 3 crowns I am totally amazed at the difference between him and my former dentist in CR. First of all I had no pain, no bleeding, no swelling and very little inflammation. People who had 8-12 teeth extractions and implants sit in the waiting room waiting for their next appt, which is so hard believe. They aren't lying down, crying with pain or sick from anesthesia. There is something magical about their technique, bedside manner and professionalism that sets them apart from all others. It's difficult to explain this to others who are making choices for their dental work and my thoughts are this: come sit in the waiting room for a few hours and listen to what others are saying. Even if it costs you a flight down here for just that, you will know more first hand rather than trying to read between the lines" Jane/Wonderchild checks in from time to time and she has been treated harshly by other Angladas patients at times. Next another example and there are more but two documented actual patients should suffice.  (Mar 13, 2013 | post #3608)

Jane also known as Wonderchild from South Carolina had a long documented relationship with Dr. Anglada. "Jane Post #247 Aug 27, 2009 from South Carolina when she was first considering going to Dr. Anglada btw, I have had several responses from someone who has had work done by him and she was very satisfied. He is one of the only 5 who are board certified implantologists in CR. I am leaning in his direction." Of course at this point what Jane more than likely did not know is the following information an implantologist only does implants. a prosthodontist does it all, including implants, cosmetic dentistry and restoration+- Or this post A prosthodontist has graduated from dental school and usually will have three or more years of continuing education after that. This type of dental specialist is trained to deal with complicated and simple restorations of the whole mouth as well as treating facial deformities. Common procedures treated by a prosthodontist may include dentures, partial dentures, fixed bridges, crowns, implants, veneers and more. Jane/Wonderchild from South Carolina did use Dr. Anglada as evidenced here and was extremely pleased with his work at first. Jane/Wonderchild Post |#402 Jan 27, 2010 My personal experience with Dr. Anglada has been very positive. I traveled to costa rica to see him twice last year for 3 implants and crowns. Prior to going there for my first appt. he called me to ask a few questions about what procedures I might need. He speaks English quite well. I also spoke with others who had seen him in the past for work and their experiences were positive. He called me quite soon after I contacted him since I told him that I already had my flight scheduled, he knew that I was coming down regardless. My friend is going down the first of February but she chose Dr. Cavallinni because she wants the one step implant, not the 2 phase like I rec'd. I will go back to him again and my husband is going to him this next year for an implant and crown too. The entire experience was great for me and I highly recommend this office. BTW, there is a lab in his office where they do the work so there is no delay or running around like in the US to get the crowns completed in time. I hope this helps you make a decision." Jane/Wonderchild was still happy in |post #1141 dated Nov 22, 2010 with Dr. Anglandas work and was giving him glowing reviews for almost a year on this very thread. As her dental work began to fail that was done by Dr. Anglada she switched to Dr. Cavallini and had actual experience with both Drs. I look at Jane/Wonderchilds experience and valued when reading this thread. It was not just a one post hit piece or someone using liable or slander who had never used one dentist.  (Mar 13, 2013 | post #3607)

Kathy, When I was doing my research I found the same few bad reviews posted ovcr and over on differ websites regarding Dr. Cavallini on many sites so I had a tendency to disregard those. One gentleman was a facilitator for other dentist he posted using his full name on another website and posted here the same post using his first initial and last name I believe. I have found far many more positive reviews all over the internet for Dr. Cavallini and Dr. Marco As I once stated in prior post which I was attacked for posting Dr. Cavallini and Dr. Anglada both have approximately the same amount of bad things written about them but both have far more positive reviews. In the next post I will post actual documented bad post about Dr. Anglada just because the same falsehoods keep being posted here. I would have really rather had people stick to their own experiences and not dredge up someone else past experience but I guess you feel this will help you.  (Mar 13, 2013 | post #3606)
