Bill Moyers Journal: Capitalism Has Swamped Democracy

How do you call the consolidation of power into an unfair, super regulated, monopoly controlled market Super Capitalism? When it is no longer a level open market - it is no longer Capitalism. Fascism is the control by and for a few. If those controllers are corporate interests - do you not have corporatism?  (Jun 14, 2009 | post #68)

Cities' debate: To mow or not to mow foreclosed homes' yards?

I didnt say they should be unkept. I said I should not have to pay for it via tax dollars. The cities should pressure the banks to keep the properties up to normal standards.  (Jun 14, 2009 | post #41)

Obama discusses economic plan to save, create jobs

What more proactivity in 8 weeks than Bush had in 8 years? Well that seems to be one for the Donkies. The Pacaderms need to step up and realize that the government is there for the people. Not the other way around. If FDR created goverment work programs to stimulate the economy, he did so because it was necessary and put the country in a positive direction. I applaud Obama for realizing the motivating power of the government and being wise enough to correct past criticisms and make it a performance based measurement. His rhetoric on the campaign impressed me. If he is an atypical politician and actually turns talk into action, they he very well MAY be able to stop the flush. Mr. President Elect - please continue to THINK we sorely need that kind of leadership.  (Dec 8, 2008 | post #214)

Cities' debate: To mow or not to mow foreclosed homes' yards?

The last place I want my tax dollars going is to mow the lawns of property that banks own. I will be glad to mow those lawns for the going market rate - as would several other service providers. The overall cost to cities would be much higher. The banks and management companies of these forclosed properties are looking to lessen their expense at our expense.  (Nov 17, 2008 | post #36)

Surprise OHS drug sweep nets pot

This is sooo typical of the War on Drugs. We have had relatively low statistics recently so lets go stir some up. Well well well, a whole 12 grams of pot for a large high school. I am sure that coordinated money spent on such a draconian measure cost much more than the $300 (high estimate [no pun intended])street value that the bust produced. What were the other residule values of the exercise? Respect toward police and authority? A common understanding that tax money is being spent wisely? How about a relative feeling of safety? Public service? I think it is a nice microcosim of the larger failed policy. Authorities creating problems to justify their existance and incredible expense. As Americans we generally do not waste money on failed policy.....How come we continue to waste billions, implement institutional racism, and incarcerate more than any other country both statistacally and by percentage over imbibed substances? Did we learn not a thing from Prohibition?  (Nov 17, 2008 | post #3)

Bed tax could pay for sports parks

Socliciting possible industy and thus revenue sounds on the surface to be responsible government. Moreover, it is something that Seminole County needs to concentrate on to maintain our quality. However, I agree with the experts and conservatives that timing for sporting venues is ill-advised. Marketing the ecotourism draw and highlighting existing desitination activities is more reasonable than trying to compete with existing venues in neighboring areas, especially in already struggling markets. Increasing pressure on the hotels in Seminole will only lead to visitors driving just a little further to attend their events, but put the small numbers of service providers at an even greater disadvantage. Seminole County Commissioners need to start thinking outside of the box and concentrating on sustainable, long-term, stable recruitment of high paying industries. Sporting events are great, but no means stable.  (Nov 17, 2008 | post #3)

Bush: a We can solve this crisis

I think you meant cooperation. And according to you my founding fathers were no better. But we know you are sh*t slinger so I'll give you the benefit of the doubt because they indeed warned us many times.(you have to pick through your bs to find valid points, but you do sometimes have them....even if you yourself dont realize it.) The problem is getting some people to listen and wrestling power from elites is not soley an American problem. Ohhh....if we do happen to flush, their is enough inherent wealth and resources to recover.....sorry to say, but I doubt Germany will be able to stay afloat if America flushes for any great period of time. Where will you direct your hate if you get your wish and America collapses?  (Nov 5, 2008 | post #612)

2008 Presidential Election

Voters make historic choices - Obama 44th President

I see I have arrived a bit late. No need to wade through hundreds of posts. (no disrespect intended) It was McCain's best speech of the campaign. Had he done that the whole time, he would have been elected. That's the difference between going with your true convictions and what the party handlers design for you. He is a good man and would have been a fine President. I must digress for a moment to say that Palin did not help. There were at least 15 better female choices that would have. McCain, I believe, sincerely meant to hand the olive branch. Lets hope that Obama turns rhetoric into action and accepts. I am optomistic that he will. His campaign was impeccable and the self style even better. I look forward to seeing what his perspective can do for the White House and our Country. The election marks a new era for the United States.......It remains to be seen if it will be good or not. As an independent I encourage both parties to take advantage of common courtesy found in concession/victory speeches and find commonality and ground in which to work together.
