Chairlifts aren't designed to go backwards. This was a catastrophic failure of multiple systems. First, a hydraulic brake must be pressurized to lift off of the "bull wheel" in order for the motor to turn the drive wheel. Second, the emergency brake is designed to not only release the hydraulic brake, but also drop a large dog tooth like object into grooves on the bull wheel to stop the lift on a dime. Something tells me, that maintenance will play into the investigation heavily. Wonder how old the lift is and who made it.....  (Friday Dec 18 | post #1)

All this "performance enhancing drug" stuff is BS. These guys aren't getting suspended for using steroids, diuretics, or other major "no-no's ".
