Opposition to health care legislation lingers Updated 26m ago | Comments 506 | Recommend 18 E- By Susan Page, USA TODAY WASHINGTON — As the debate over a health care bill enters a critical stage, a new USA TODAY/Gallup Poll finds Americans inclined to oppose congressional passage of the legislation this year. The survey, taken Friday through Sunday, finds 48% against a bill, 31% in support of it. Despite nearly a year of presidential speeches, congressional hearings and TV ad campaigns by interest groups, more than one in five still doesn't have a strong opinion. When pressed about how they were leaning, 49% overall said they would urge their member of Congress to vote against a bill; 31% would urge a vote for it. The House passed its version this month, and Senate debate on its health care bill is slated to start in earnest next week. A sharp partisan divide in public opinion helps explain the mostly party-line votes in Congress. Those Democrats surveyed were overwhelmingly in favor of a bill: 76% to 17%. By an even wider margin, 86% to 12%, Republicans were opposed. Independents were against it by 58% to 32%. Obama has seen his approval rating on handling health care policy slide a lot since the summer. Now, 40% approve, 58% disapprove, down from a 44% approval rating in July. Once again it is that time of the year! May the REAL GOD enlighten all of his children! Today we, all of humanity celebrate a holiday born in the USA, in which we all despite our differences in race, ethnicity. nationality or religion, all come together to thank THE ALMIGHTY for the many gifts HE has bestowed upon us. When you stop to think about it, there is no more beautiful holiday than this, a day that we forget our differences, families & friends get together for a meal to honor & thank GOD! In the US the whole nation celebrates, Jews, Catholics, Protestants, as well as the myriad of other faiths found in this great nation. God must really be pleased to see all of his children united. I wish you all a HAPPY THANKSGIVING! May GOD grant you all wisdom, good health & prosperity. On November 7th, the House voted narrowly to pass the Democrats’ government takeover of America’s health care system. The Democrats had a choice—institute a new regime of mandates and taxes while sticking a bureaucrat between patients and doctors, or implement patient-centered reform. They made the wrong choice. For now the power resides in the hands of the Senate, but this is far from the end of the story. We are going to do everything we can to stop the Senate from passing this egregious health care “reform” bill – this is where we are currently focusing all of our efforts. If, however, the Senate does pass its own version of the bill, the next step will be for the bill to go to Conference Committee where we will have a real chance to defeat this thing once and for all. We have approximately 60 – 90 days to rally, to loudly proclaim that we, as physicians, are not going to sit back quietly and watch the future of medicine destroyed. We will continue to fight and have an impact on this debate but we cannot do it alone. I will continue to fight, and I need you right there fighting with me. I need you to write letters to the editor at your local paper, to call your Senators, and if possible to consider continuing your generous support for the Physician’s Council for Responsible Reform. I wish this wasn’t a partisan issue but the Democrats sent us a clear and frightening message about where they stand in this health care debate. I cannot stress enough that, in addition to input from physicians like you, the best weapon we have for moving forward with responsible health care reform, like true tort reform, is to elect more Republicans (and specifically more physicians) to Congress. This is the core mission of PCRR. Your input and support are more critical to us now than ever, and I am so very grateful to count you among our PCRR members – a group of doctors committed to protecting and improving the quality of health care in this country.
