US bishop 'grieves' over defeat of same-sex marriage law

It doesn't. There is no place in the Bible that condemns homosexuality, except by mistranslation of the original text. The only NT writings that appear to address it are from Paul, and Paul INVENTED the word "arsenokoites " from root words meaning "man" & "beds". The best understanding of this is a reference to male temple prostitution. This would put Paul in parallel with the OT scripture of Leviticus 18:22 & 20:13, both of which prohibit (Isrealite) men from having sex with male temple prostitutes is fertility rituals dedicated to foriegn Gods. In some translations, the Greek word malakos is also translated as homosexual, even though in a correct translation it means "soft" and was slang for effeminate - as the Greeks understood the term. Greek effeminancy had more to do with a general unwillingness to deny one's pleasures (gluttony & drunkeness), gossiping, and laziness than in what we today would see as effeminate behavior. And they saw nothing effeminate about hopmosexual behavior.  (Tuesday Dec 1 | post #32)

~FACT: If YOU are NOT a Christian "anymore"~ Then YOU never were ONE~

In other words, follow the religion of Christianity... But to be like Jesus requires one to be Jewish, and strive to follow every bit of the OT law. Oh, and die as a result of instigating a failed revolt against the government. Hmm, I think that I'll stick to Paganism. :)  (Tuesday Dec 1 | post #1518)

I just finished reading a great book: "Why the Jews rejected Jesus". I highly recommend it. It does a good job of showing how EVERTHING that Christianity believes is an inversion of what the Bible teaches.  (Thursday Nov 12 | post #13512)

Honestly and accurately challenge it, yes. Some of this delves into the Hebrew words that were used and their specific meaning. Isa 7:13 uses language that today would be the equivalent of saying that the officially recorded name on his birth cirtificate shall be Immanuel. In contrast, the officially recorded name you refer to was Jesus. Translating his name into English, Jesus means "God is our Savior" Immanuel means "God is with us", and in fact, EVERY name that ends in "-el" is a reference to God. There were many people who had these names. Oh, and minor point, but "Jesus" is the English version of the Greek form of his name. Going directly to English from the Aramaic, you should be worshipping "Joshua" . Well, "should" should be taken rather loosely, since I don't actually advocate idolitry.  (Thursday Nov 12 | post #13511)

There is a BIG difference between a name and titles. The NAME of Jesus was Jesus, and that was his only NAME. (Well, Jesus ben Joseph, to be correct.) The prophecy in Isaiah specified that the child would be NAMED Immanuel. Jesus and Immanuel are two completely different names. You might as well be reading a prophecy about "John" and then claiming that "Paul" has fulfilled it, because Paul went to a prostitute, and customers of prostitutes are called johns. Heck, that example is actually MORE of a fulfillment of the made up prophecy that Jesus was with respect to Immanuel.  (Tuesday Nov 10 | post #13495)

No. Almah translates s young woman, period. A young woman may or may not be a virgin, but being a virgin is completely independant of being a young woman. And, not surprising, you missed the main point. She was a sign for King Ahaz. Isaiah said "Behold, THAT young woman will give birth...". Isaiah was specifying a particular young woman to King Ahaz, either one that he could point out, or one that was already known to King Ahaz. In other words, a young woman who lived and died centuries before Mary or Jesus were born.  (Tuesday Nov 10 | post #13494)

Oh, silly child... the things that I post about the Messiah are NOT opinion, but a simple and straightforward statement of what the Bible says about the matter. It is quite simple. IF there is ANY truth in the Bible, then the Messiah of prophecy has not come. No opinion, just an examination of what is written in black and white. Fact: numerous prophecies state that the Messiah will bring an era of peace. Even if we assume that it means peace only for Israel, that prophecy has NOT been fulfilled. Fact: the prophecies state that sacrifices will take place in the Temple. Currently, the Muslims occupy the site of the Temple, and until they ar gone, the Temple cannot be rebuilt, nor can prayers and sacrifices take place there. Fact: all twelve tribes will be reunited. Currently, the ten Lost Tribes are still lost. There's more. Do you recognize these, or shall I trot out the chapter and verse? So, unless you can demonstrate that I somehow missed seeing world peace, my statements about the Messiah are not opinion, but fact.  (Tuesday Nov 10 | post #21269)

Well, gee... it's called "science ". Ya see, what those psychologists are doing is research and investigation. That "small group" has examined the evidence and has demonstrated that any claims about changing a person's orientation are bull. Once they have done this investigation, they pass this information on to others in the field so the others don't keep trying to do something that does not work. No matter how long you talk at someone, you can't change their genetic code. Homosexuality is not a psychological issue, it is biological. However, a good shrink can help a person deal with being homosexual and learn to accept themselves for who they are, and not just for who they sleep with. Sort of like back when the doctors finally figured out that slapping a leech on someone was not very likely to actualy cure any diseases. Fun fact time: there was a U.S. president who DIED from leeches and blood letting. He fell ill during his inaguration, the "doctors " of the day did what they knew, but no matter how much blood they let out, his humors would not balance, and he died from blood lose. Now, modern medical research has found out that there are a small number of very specific conditions that actualy CAN be improved through the use of leeches. Go figure.  (Tuesday Nov 10 | post #21268)

Well, having read the Bible's prophecies concerning the requirements to be te Messiah, it is obvious that Jesus failed to fulfill the vast majority of those prophecies. He managed to get a few of the trivial* ones, but that's it. All of the biggies, like peace & prosperity, return of the Lost Tribes of Israel, restoring the Temple and the sacrifices therein, all of these, Jesus failed. * Born of a woman, born of the tribe of Judah, rode into Jerusalem on a donkey. Oouu, like he was the ONLY person to have ever done any of those things.  (Tuesday Nov 10 | post #21261)

American Medical Assoc. votes to seek repeal of 'don't ask, don't tell' By Lindsey Tanner, The Associated PressMore and more Christians are learning to accept what the Bible really says rather than trying to pretend that the Bible condemns homosexuality. The simple truth is that NOWHERE in the Bible is homosexuality condemned. It is only in the MIStranslations of simple minded buffoons that any group of people are singled out and condemned.  (Tuesday Nov 10 | post #29)

And Isaiah also says that the Eath is flat. But let's look at some of the other verses in the Bible. And by all means, do please read them in context. Amos 3:1 Hear this word that the LORD hath spoken against you, O children of Israel, against the whole family which I brought up from the land of Egypt, saying, 3:2 You only have I known of all the families of the earth: Psalms 147:19 He sheweth his word unto Jacob, his statutes and his judgments unto Israel. 147:20 He hath not dealt so with any nation: and as for his judgments, they have not known them. Praise ye the LORD 2 Samuel 7:23 And what one nation in the earth is like thy people, even like Israel, whom God went to redeem for a people to himself, and to make him a name, and to do for you great things and terrible, for thy land, before thy people, which thou redeemedst to thee from Egypt, from the nations and their gods? 7:24 For thou hast confirmed to thyself thy people Israel to be a people unto thee for ever: and thou, LORD, art become their God. All of these make it pretty clear that the God of the Bible is concerned only with the children of Israel. But, to be fair and honest (you ought to try that someday!) there are verses by the prophets that claim that for every Jew returning to Jerusalem once the Messiah comes, thre will be ten Gentiles clutching their hem to go with them so they can convert to Judaism. Ballparking some numbers makes that as many as 5% of the worlds population will end up worshipping the God of the Bible! Exodus 22:20 He that sacrificeth unto any god, save unto the LORD only, he shall be utterly destroyed. Notice that it does NOT mention anything about “false gods”, thus implying that other people have their own Gods, but the children of Israel are not to sacrifice to those other Gods. Joshua 24:2 And Joshua said unto all the people, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, Your fathers dwelt on the other side of the flood in old time, even Terah, the father of Abraham, and the father of Nachor: and they served other gods. So, even the pre-Abraham patriarchs worshipped other Gods. Isaiah 51:2 Look unto Abraham your father, and unto Sarah that bare you: for I called him alone, and blessed him, and increased him. 51:3 For the LORD shall comfort Zion: he will comfort all her waste places; and he will make her wilderness like Eden, and her desert like the garden of the LORD; joy and gladness shall be found therein, thanksgiving, and the voice of melody. And here we see that, out of all the people on the Earth, ONLY Abraham was called. Everyone else had their own Gods to worship. And the next line shows that the God of the Bible will comfort the nation of Israel, but no mention is made of the rest of the world. Once again, that is because they all have their own Gods to follow. Ezekiel 33:20 ... O ye house of Israel, I will judge you every one after his ways. So, here the God of the Bible says that He will judge the house of Israel. Read it in context, it is clear that what is meant is that ONLY the house of Israel will be judged.  (Tuesday Nov 10 | post #21254)

Once again, wrong as usual. Baptism was been used by the Jews for centuries before John wandered onto the scene. It was commanded by the Torah.  (Tuesday Nov 10 | post #21251)
