Lakeport business hypocrisy

I hope the folks in Lakeport will come to Middletown during Father's Day Weekend for the 50th anniversary of "Middletown Days." This year, people from across the United States - and maybe even around the world - will be reaching out to Middletown. If you live in Lakeport or elsewhere in Lake County, you need to make plans to come to Middletown and see what's happening. You need to make plans to eat at Ting's Thai Kitchen during the month of June and check out the backlit, glittering, acrylic display and who is involved with it. You will no doubt be amazed. Want to get an idea as to WHO exactly is reaching out to Middletown? Simply Google "Middletown Days 2011." The list of folks involved will likely lengthen as Father's Day Weekend approaches. So, check back to the site often. Middletown is home to the "Lake County Social Media Group." If you are not up-to-speed on what Twitter, Facebook and Foursquare can do for one's business life, you need to check out this group at www.meetup.com/LCS MGroup.  (May 28, 2011 | post #10)

College cannot be built in Middletown

diduKnow, Is there a reason why so many folks here do not use their real name and seem to have problems expressing themselves in English? Even obscene language is misspelled. Is this typical of Northern California? When you say Lake County does not care about road conditions, who are you talking about? Are you talking about the Board of Supervisors or some other group? Exactly where are you placing the blame? Please be specific. Who is it that stands in the way of progress for Lake County? Granted, I did not grow up in Lake County. Instead, I came here in 2001 from Atlanta for a job that unfortunately disappeared from view shortly after I arrived and I have been "stuck here" ever since. During my short time here, I have seen so much back-stabbing by people who should know better it is absolutely amazing. I am almost convinced that Lake County is dysfunctional - not by accident but by design. There are actually some people that like Lake County as the "Meth Capital of the World." Nobody wants to help anybody but the local Chambers of Commerce continues to tell everyone to "shop local." Lake County is an amazing place - but for too many of the wrong reasons.  (May 17, 2008 | post #15)

Gas prices soar in Lake Co.

I wonder if gas prices continue to soar if we will see more people working from home for corporations? In other words, more tele-commuting?  (May 13, 2008 | post #13)

College cannot be built in Middletown

Okay, the county owns 1,000 acres of land and cannot build a liberal arts college on it because it cannot have the adjoining 185 acres owned by Langtry Farms. What does the county do with those 1,000 acres now? Are county officials in the habit of accepting gifts of property they cannot use?  (May 10, 2008 | post #13)

Gas prices soar in Lake Co.

Dear Green eyed lady, Yes, the gas crisis is all over the country. However, the person with the HHO gas patent is in Clearlake, FL - not California. How do I know? I took your advise before you bothered to post it here:) Please understand, like most people, when I ask a question on a forum such as this it is because I would like to know the opinion of other people. It is NOT to engage anger. By the way, there was nothing in that post to indicate anger. I simply wished to know what people thought. That is, after all, using the reason why questions are asked.  (May 10, 2008 | post #11)

Does anyone know if there is any truth to being able to convert either a gasoline engine or a diesel engine to run on this new HHO fuel, which I believe is some kind of electrolcized water? Is this total baloney or is this actually available to the public right now? If it is available to the public, where do you find these conversion kits? I would much prefer my car run on a green fuel and at the same time save me money than paying outrageous prices for gasoline in Hidden Valley Lake and Middletown.  (May 9, 2008 | post #9)

2008 Presidential Election

What John McCain Told Me, and What it Says About How Far ...

Question: Would anyone here like to see McCain ask Billionaire and Mayor of New York City Michael Bloomberg be his running mate? I think that would be a ticket hard to beat by the Democrats.  (May 6, 2008 | post #273)

James D. Johnson as General Manager ?

If you want James D. Johnson to take certain action, you need to be very clever in your presentation. I stood in the Greenview parking lot for 10 minutes with an envelope in my hand to talk to the man, while he spoke with other people. When they had all gone, it was just me and him. I started to talk with him and hand him the letter. I thought he would save me the trouble of having to mail it since the letter was addressed to him. To my surprise, he refused to take the letter and told me to get the letter to his assistant, Pat. Well, I did. In fact, I later followed up that action by calling his office to see if he had read the letter and get his thoughts. Well, he was not in the office. I spoke instead with his new secretary. I told her about the letter I hand-delivered to the office to the attention of Pat for Mr. Johnson. I asked that Mr. Johnson call me back. The secretary told me she would see what she could do. I never got a call back from that office - and I am actually an employee of the HVLA. The good news is that many of the candidates running for the district 1 supervisor position - including Don Dornbush, who happens to be president of the HVLA - have shown interest in bringing Wi-Fi to Hidden Valley Lake because the cell phone service is so poor in Lake County. The candidates are interested in the possibility of becoming Wi-Fi advertisers in a splash page Wi-Fi hot spot in Ting's Thai Kitchen for a three-month period. The Greenview wants some other restaurant to take the plunge before they do. It should be interesting to see what action the HVLA board decides if the Greenview begins to lose customers to Ting's Thai Kitchen - due to the availability of "free access" to the Internet.  (Mar 30, 2008 | post #8)

Robin Williams' wife files for divorce

Incumbent Robey makes surprise endorsement in District On...

What does Lake County need it does not already have? Here's a short list: 1) We need better security operation at The Geyers. (Securitas has got to go!) Cosmetic security is no longer acceptable in a post-911 world. Good security should be focused upon protecting people and property - not about providing lower liability insurance rates for a corporation at the expense of people and property. 2) We neeed better county press kits. (Replace those Lake County PDF CD's with dynamic digital signage DVD's.) The time has come to amaze - not simply amuse - the Fox News Channel. 3) We need a Foundation Center Cooperative Collection at the Calpine Visitor Center to facilitate acquisition of grant funding for local nonprofits. 4) We need cell phone service in The Geysers. The world's largest geothermal region deserves nothing less. 5) We need to enhance the appearance of the area by further reducing the number of billboards. By using large digital LCD screens instead of regular billboards, we can utilize fewer screens and at the same time promote more local businesses and community activities. South Lake County needs to introduce beautiful digital signage to all commuters encouraging them to stop and shop. Now, whom among the candidates for District 1 Supervisor will help South Lake County achieve those goals?  (Mar 18, 2008 | post #5)
