Cowboys release owner Jerry Jones

The Dallas Cowboys once had glory and triumph. Now that the Steelers are the lone champions of six Super Bowls, America's team is questioning its own identity. Now you have Jerry Jones questioning himself as well. He releases locker room bad boy, Terrell Owens, after months of denying he would even consider it. Perhaps he has come to his senses and realized that team chemistry is important, more important than his beloved media circus. When John Q Public is asked about the biggest problem witht he Cowboys, most of the time T.O. is public's enemy. But the intelligent fan of Dallas usually defers all the failures to the management of the fallen dynasty. According to the average Cowboy fan, Jerry Jones is up for review.  (Mar 16, 2009 | post #1)

Jets new coach Ryan has fire that Mangini lacked

I am too young to remember the days of Namath, so I haven't felt attached or impressed by the Jets, ever. But I do remember Buddy Ryan from the Oiler days and if you need discipline and a coach who will get in your players' faces, Ryan is the right choice. I doubt Favre needs it, but I could be wrong. On the other hand, if a rookie QB or lesser known guy replaces Favre, it could be a bad choice. As for the Ryan in question, I don't think he would be quite like his dad. He probably has better rapport with the players but still determined and hard-nosed. Good luck Jets.  (Jan 23, 2009 | post #108)

Arizona Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt has advantage on Pittsbu...

actually if there is ANY advantage to the Whiz being an ex-steeler, wouldn't that be on the offensive side? with his knack for trick plays and knowledge of the "legendary " steel curtain, i would imagine the holes in the secondary and front line defensive themes would outweigh an advantage for the Cards' defense over Big Ben's side of the ball????  (Jan 23, 2009 | post #64)

Arizona Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt has advantage on Pittsbu...

Not drafted, Kurt Warner attended the Green Bay Packers training camp in 1994, but was released before the regular season began. With no NFL teams willing to give him a chance, Warner turned to the Arena Football League in 1995. Warner was the backup quarterback for the St. Louis Rams during the 1998 regular season and the 1999 preseason. The Rams won it all in 1999 and Warner was the game’s MVP. However, the heavily favored Rams lost to the New England Patriots in 2001. In 2005, Warner signed with the Cardinals During the regular season, Warner was the best quarterback in the league against the blitz. He completed 134 of 208 passes for 1,645 yards and 14 touchdowns in blitz situations. Ben Roethlisberger was 95-of-180 for 1,158 yards with five touchdowns and five interceptions against the blitz in the regular season. Here's the key stat: Roethlisberger was sacked 29 times in 209 dropbacks against the blitz in the regular season. How Warner works the play-action pass will clearly affect how LeBeau uses safety Troy Polamalu. No safety in football has the range of Polamalu, who can line up as a deep safety or charge the line of scrimmage to blitz. Steelers cornerback Ike Taylor had his best season in 2008, allowing 59 completions against him in 108 attempts, and getting beaten for only two touchdowns.  (Jan 23, 2009 | post #63)

Arizona Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt has advantage on Pittsbu...

In an odd little twist, Arizona coach Ken Whisenhunt has his roots with the Steelers, serving as offensive coordinator from 2004-2006, including the Super Bowl-winning team. Cardinals head coach Ken Whisenhunt and assistant head coach Russ Grimm were bypassed for the Steelers' job after Bill Cowher departed in 2006. The job went to Mike Tomlin. The time Whisenhunt spent on the Steelers' staff gives him firsthand knowledge of what the Steelers like to do defensively. Whisenhunt has an advantage in this matchup because he knows better than most what makes Roethlisberger uncomfortable. Assistant head coach/offensive line coach Russ Grimm was with Whisenhunt in Pittsburgh. The Arizona Cardinals had just lost to New England by 40 points, Whisenhunt threatened to bench players in the playoffs if they didn’t practice well. Then something clicked. An Arizona defense that allowed 183 yards on the ground at New England shut down the league’s No. 2 and No. 3 rushing teams—Atlanta and Carolina—forcing nine turnovers in the process. Atlanta managed 60 yards on the ground against the Cardinals, Carolina 75.  (Jan 23, 2009 | post #61)

Today's Super Bowl News Roundup

Cardinals’ history – a wealth of useless information From a 1920 schedule, it is recorded that the Chicago Cardinals’ first game against the Chicago Tigers ended in a scoreless tie. The first match in 1935 between the Cards and Eagles ended with a 12-3 win. Cardinals had only one winning season which led the team to a 28-21 victory over the Eagles at frigid Comiskey Park for the 1947 NFL title. The following season the rematch took place, and the Eagles won 7-0 in the championship game. In 1960 they became the St. Louis Cardinals, they moved to Arizona in 1988 as the Phoenix Cardinals, and ultimately became the Arizona Cardinals in 1994. Prior to the November 48-20 loss to the Eagles, the Cardinals had not seen their rivals since 2005, when they defeated the Eagles 27-21 while McNabb and Terrell Owens were injured. With the NFC championship 32-25 victory over the Eagles, the Cards are going to their first Super Bowl. The Steelers and Cardinals have played only eight times in 36 years, with the Steelers holding a 5-3 edge in the series.  (Jan 23, 2009 | post #8)

'Survivor: NFL?' Reality TV Offers Spot On Cowboys

The way that it is bad for the Cowboys is that it emphasizes how goofy they are. Bad chemistry in the locker room will not improve if some guy off the street makes the team. It looks like desperation for a failing franchise. And it expands on the circus atmosphere when you add Reality TV into the mix. Jerry Jones is an idiot. Of course he will agree to this. It’s a publicity stunt and a cheap way to scout nobodies with a dream like the Wahlberg movie, “Invincible.” This is insane. What’s next? Jerry Jones' priorities are skewed. Publicity is NOT more important than chemistry. However, I think he is correct about T.O. and the other roster questions. There are no holes in the depth chart. The team is full of quality players. But none of them know how to play football. They like dolls and playing dress up. They like wipping Wade Phillips with wet towels in the shower. They like playing doctor with each other. Once the team starts to become just that, a TEAM, then they can be considered one.  (Jan 23, 2009 | post #2)

Dallas Cowboys & Reality TV

Michael Irvin is launching a reality TV show in which 12 “football neophytes” will compete for an impressive grand prize: a spot on the Dallas Cowboys’ training camp roster. The Cowboys confirmed that one of their 80 roster spots will go to the show’s winner. The show, which doesn’t yet have a title, will air this spring on Spike. It is being produced by the same company that’s behind “The Biggest Loser” and many other reality TV hits. The show will pit six receivers and six defensive backs. “I don’t see how you can make this a negative for the Dallas Cowboys,” Irvin said. “We all talk of doing good things for the community, for people, giving people opportunities. Jerry has stepped up and said, ‘OK, let’s do it.”’ [AP] The way that it is bad for the Cowboys is that it emphasizes how goofy they are.
