Homeowner sounds alarm over door-to-door sales
You know I have the very same system put in by what can only be described as an aggressive sales rep. But not so aggressive that I didn't understand everything that was being told as well as every question answered. My wife, who will say no in a heartbeat to anything, asked alot of tough questions. The sales rep actually took a great amount of time with us without once stepping foot inside our home until it was ready to be installed. The wireless feature for contacting their monitoring station was the big draw for us. It even works well enough that the motion sensor put inside the house doesn't go off with our 2 small dogs roaming about inside. and yet will easily pick up a large presence moving, sadly myself in a not thinking mode. I understand the desire not to take advantage of our elderly, but I really feel this was not the case. I was asked on at least 4 different times if I understood the contract, and was explained 3 times how it works. I know fixed incomes, and low income families will fin it hard to come up with the $40.00 a month monitoring fee, but that is all this cost. Well done APX I am pleased wiht my system. What you failed to mention was that the landlord in this case declined the interview. Any half decent news organization will offer this for rebuttal, claims, clarification, etc. This didn't happen so the story that has been printed will slight towards who was willing to share their side. I am not denying the fact that their is alwasy 2 sides to every story, nor am I claiming the landlord a bad person. Given the fact that the deposit for this couple is being returned this week speaks well for her, but not speaking up and explaining, defending, apologizing, or any statement of any kind does not. HUH??? Did you actually pre-read what it is you wrote here??? Catching the jist of what you said, and for a side note I have 3 daughters and own a motorcycle. I work at a hotel where, this tactic is used frequently with groups of kids. The tape won't stop the door from opening, but rather let the kids know that the shaperones will know when you have left your room. This is sounding more like a case of kids trying to pull a fast one over on their parents, and their parents falling for it, hook, line, and sinker. I'm sure most of us in the Tampa Bay area have seen just how high these pelicans get before they dive into the water for their food. This has really got to be one very painful crash. The only bit of good news is Pepper spray effects are temperary. Not that I am ever going to use it on an infant. Nor would I have ever thought of such a cruel and inhumane move to make. I'd say launch pepper into his eyes, wait unitl the pepper clears, then launch it again. Repeat unitl your arm is tired from holding a pepper canister, then get someone a turn. Commission: Raise sales tax-cut property taxes
A 1 penny sales tax is not a bad way to bring in extra income. This will help in keeping income coming into the state while showing a real relief for homeowners who are already overstretched with mortgages, insurance, property taxes, etc. It seems the best way to help the budget and keep the income flowing in. As a homeowner, I am more than willing to pay the extra penny per dollar, rather than keep getting hit with this extremely high property tax. (Apr 25, 2008 | post #3)
