I agree that others were in the home at the time, however I have always seen the parents to be the ones that are held accountable in the eyes of the law. I also think the mother of the young lady in this case could have used a little help as well. Seems to me if the family was helping in raiseing this child, then the family should have given the teen mom a little more guidance in the situation. Woke her up, put the baby in her room, put the dog out, or heck even fed the dog probaly would have helped. Trust me I am far from ever being an angel, and I have made a few bad choices in my lifetime so far, and I am sure to make a few more. However I do not believe in your fate, I believe God makes my path, and I know with him I will always walk in the light, no matter what. I agree this girl for that is what she is a young girl still in mature statue, was decided in court, but I stand by that she still needs help, punishment is not for you or I to say, but helping is..and this girl needs it bad. Her choices ended up with a baby being EATEN by a dog, a puppy at that! The pain that child must have went through! Can you not picture a baby 2 months old, screaming with every bite, and getting weaker by the blood loss. Helpless, while his MOTHER lays in the other room?? She made the choices she made, and now she needs to learn how to better live her life and make better un-selfish choices! So a parenting class will help me figure out if my child is worth the risk that may come along with a brand new shot that may or may not harm my child in years to come? I will look into that, and I am guessing you will be the parent sitting next to me in that class right? I just thought you would be, seems you are so willing to take anyone telling you something is safe to take, and line your children up to have this shot. Just for the record, my children have never had the flu vacine, and they have never had the flu. It has nothing to do with luck my dear. Nothing has been wasted on me, or you for that matter. God loves us all the same. Period. You are so sure this young mom only fell asleep and did nothing wrong! I am so sorry for you. You make it seem like she is an angel. I am sorry, but her choices in life had a horrible outcome for the baby. I have never condemned this girl. I stand by my opinon and say this girl needs HELP. Help from a program or somthing that can help her! She needs something, you do not just sleep though a screaming baby, I just do not belive that. I have my newphew staying with me and I can tell you when he cries I hear him! I hear him when the door is shut, and I am in my room with the door shut! You listen for your children, even when you have been up all night. That is part of being a MOM! You made a choice to be a mother, so she should have made better choices to keep that baby safe. She needs more help than the system gave her, so this does not happen again in her life. I have my douts about a shot that we do not really know the affects yet. There is a huge difference between being aware of risks for my kids and getting drunk or useing drugs which is a choice by the way, and leaving my 2 mo old baby in a swing for a puppy to mawl so badly he dies. I am not perfect, however every day we make choices for our kids, this young mother made her choice to put herself first, and to leave that baby alone, to not care at the moment it happened. She made her choice to have the baby, to keep the baby, to try to raise the baby by herself. With that choice, she should have made a better choice before choosing drugs and drinking at 17 yrs old! I am not condeming her, I feel for her, loosing a child is the hardest thing in the world, and one day she may feel the pain of what she did. But she still needed help, as you put it, she was not raised well. So don't you think a program or rehab would have helped her at least a little? No you just think putting her back into the same world she came out of is good enough, after all, she did so well the first time around with her family's help.  (Sunday Oct 25 | post #86)

I try to have compassion for everyone, and I understand how a mother of a 2 month old can be over whelming at times. I had my first child at 17, I CHOOSE to raise him, and I have been there for 17 yrs now. I have other children, and when you choose to be a mom you make the choice to keep that child safe, always to do your very best to raise it right and to protect it. This mother choose to have a child at 17, to keep it, and then to neglect it by choice. She will grow up in the next few yrs, and she may come to accountabilty one day all on her own, but until then, she needs help. She needs someone to step in and give her the guidance she never seemed to get at home from her mother. I am not even sure I want my child to have this shot. What are the side effects? How much have they really studied this shot? Those questions worry me more. We are just doing what we can, prayer for our family, friends and everyone here in our area, washing our hands, useing hand wash all the time, and staying away from anyone with a cold. In a way she did get off with out any jail time or real punishment from the law. Yes she will live with this forever, and I pray she will turn her life around, however, she did not really seem to have any remorse at the time as I recall the story, and I am sure she is not thinking of what she DID to cause the death of her child right now, she is thinking she is free...and that is the real shame here.
