Thomas arrested during news conference
Yes, there is a God above!! And I believe that is why this case is FINALLY, after all of this time, coming up! For too long it has been swept under the rug! For too long people have been looking the other way!!! Thomas will have to answer for the allegations of crimes he committed against young black boys and men. I don't believe this is racist (white against black) at all. If anything, Thomas was racist (black against white) against young white boys and men -- he only "allegedely " committed these crimes against young BLACK boys and men. What did Thomas have against young white boys and men? And the majority of citizens living in the City of Mobile are black, not white.... so, white people are now the minority in the City (per the Press-Register). So get off the "race card". This is a case about a judge allegedlly misusing his power to sodomize, rape, and beat young men. Period. I believe there is like 57 counts against this man. That means that there are 57 young men who have came forward and accused Thomas. There will be a case, and a trial.... and a ruling with a possible punishment depending on the verdict. The man is innocent until proven guilty... so let's see how this turns out! (Apr 1, 2009 | post #14)
Voters to decide on Amendment 1 in Alabama November 4th
From what I understand, if this amendment passed, then taxes would not have to be raised. This will allow the schools to borrow more instead of raising taxes. I'm just very concerned about how the schools will be able to pay this money back.... No one from the school system is even talking about re-payment. (Nov 5, 2008 | post #3)
Voters to decide on Amendment 1 in Alabama November 4th
Info can be found in article on WKRG: http://www.wkrg.co m/education/articl e/amendment_1_coul d_affect_alabama_s chools/20290/ Here's the info from the article: Presently, the state can only borrow $240,000,000 for schools. He (Nichols) says a “yes” vote would nearly double the borrowing power and help mobile county school officials avoid laying off 320 people next school year. “They're already $160,000,000 in the hole and then the revenue's not coming in as quickly as they had planned,” says Nichols. Moffett Road Annexation Area -- Voted NO ANNEXATION!
Hi Renee -- you are so right! Keeping Semmes "like it is" is no longer an option. I think that the people in Semmes have seen how fast their lives can be changed in Mobile's last annexation attempt. The only way we can come close to keeping Semmes "like it is" is to incorporate, form our own city, develop our own Planning Commission, subdivision regulations, municipal ordinances -- basically form our own local government with local leadership. We need to choose local leaders who share our vision of what Semmes IS. (Oct 15, 2008 | post #3)

Neighbors in Semmes against annexation
I called on 7 businesses this morning on Moffett Road that are located within the proposed annexation area. It's just amazing -- they are all AGAINST Mobile's proposed annexation.... I can't honestly say that I've spoken to one person that supports annexation except for 2 guys that live in Kings Branch and that was on the day that we went to the Mobile City Council Meeting (Aug/26th I think). They are supposed to get FREE garbage & trash pickup along with a few street lights -- crazy, eh? Like anything is FREE? Come on now LOL It is going to cost the rest of us (around 15,000 other residents who live and shop in Semmes) who will have to pay the increased sales tax. AND the business owners who will have to pay a 100% increase on their business license tax and they also don't have a voice/vote even if their business property is located in the proposed annexation area. All of the other residents and business owners in the proposed annexation area can not stand the idea of being a part of Mobile and paying even more tax money to downtown. If you ride down Moffett, take a look at the yard signs that we've put up. I ran out of signs this morning (going to pick up more at the sign company this afternoon). We'll keep putting up more and calling on all the businesses and residents in the proposed annexation area. The best thing is to educate the residents and give them the WHOLE story about the true costs of annexation and not half-truths like what has been fed to them by the City. (Sep 16, 2008 | post #13)

Annexation Wars Continue in Mobile Alabama
They definitely still continue.... Guess what happened on Saturday night? There are 2 - 4'x8' Anti-Annexation signs at the corner of Bear Fork and Moffett Road. They were torn down. They are back up now thanks to volunteers who took the time to try and repair and put them back up. Now, this is pretty darn bad if these signs were torn down by Pro-Annexation people. I can't say for sure that this is what happened, but.... who else would be tearing them down? (Sep 15, 2008 | post #1)
Hi Kaela. I'm not from Wilmer (I'm in Semmes) and so I don't know anyone with the last name of Heely. I did a search to see if there were any families with that last name listed in Wilmer but didn't find any. I hope that you can find them. (Sep 12, 2008 | post #2)

Neighbors in Semmes against annexation
Sandis Gowns -- you are so right! We need to support our local businesses first. Also, when we do incorporate, the money we pay in sales taxes will stay in Semmes and help to support our community even more. Maybe this is something that we need to look at and make people more aware of. We could start a "SHOP IN SEMMES" campaign. I think many people just don't think about it right now -- but, with the incorporation efforts, it is something that we need to make everyone aware of. Very good point!! Thanks!
