Don't listen to anything this sniffling, whining, complainer says. HE is some type of railroad wannabee that is all bent out of shape because the track workers gave a radio that was going to be discarded anyway to a retired guy that is friendly to the train crews. Steve (the retired guy) keeps a lookout for trespassers and vandals and has helped out in reporting some of that. Steve once made this "Enfield hero" aware that there were fines for tresspassing, and this just rubs him the wrong way. The "hero" works across the street from where Steve waves to the trains. A footnote on the radio; have you ever heard of amortizing an asset to where it is now worthless? Taxpayer money; I don't think so. Have your channel 8 buddies look into this, if you really called, which your style would be to be a bluffer. You have to ask, what harm is there in an old guy who waves to the trains? At least he isn't getting hammered in some bar or pissing money away in those worthless casinos. I've been working in the area and the train crews are always glad to see Steve there. This "Enfield Hero, or Troll" sits behind his computer and fires off caustic and sometimes disgusting posts, because he has the protection of anonymity. He simply is a miserable dude, with absolutely nothing better to do. Working on the railroad is the coolest job, and this guy is all bent out of shape that he can't. We'll have to set up Steve with a cab ride and he can wave out the window to you at work. Cool Beans! (May 31, 2008 | post #671)

You must not be very familiar with railroads. Much like logging or construction, the rank and file tend to have a crude redneck tendencies to them. - For an education on railroads you need to talk to a guy from Enfield, CT on this blog who goes by many names: "Troll de la Borum", "New Naven Railroad", "FBI", "Bridge Commander", et al. This guy and a buddy of his from Wallingford are real "walking, talking, railroad encyclopedias ". They love to talk railroads and watch trains, but they think is is odd behavior for anybody else to do the same. This gives me some suspicions - (May 31, 2008 | post #668)

Do I know a lot about your foamer show? Actually not, but you seem disturbed that somebody would suggest that you do. That thing is a pain in the **** ; all you foamer dweebs come out of the woodwork and try to invade the yard to take "snapshots ". Or catch a glimpse of "the romance of the high iron". You seem bent on having people think that you are "one in the know" about railroads, insisting that "you boys go play with your Lionel sets". Get real buddy, because you have some persecution complex and are all worried about your status as seen by others. This is why you post all those caustic posts about FCC rules, and your stupid comments on the issue of the trucker protest. Yes we stole you posting name briefly and put the most appropriate photograph with it. Why don't YOU stay of the PC and get busy with reporting all the FCC and NORAC violations that bother you so much. Monday you and the Enfield jerk would have had a coronary; the freight guys were wishing Stomper a "happy cinco de mayo" over the radio, and they didn't identify themselves, and they didn't say "over" or "out". CLEARLY violations of the worst kind. You should have heard it, it was way cool. My advice to you; YOU go play with you foamer rulebooks and virtual railroads and simulators, and keep you worthless comments off the internet. YOU are simply NOT needed, you idiot. Truckers protest diesel prices
Ignore this "Amtrak Stormtrooper" guy. Read my posting back a day ago about HIM. - Actually the railroads get very little to no help from the government, with the exception of a few table scraps for some commuter rail projects. Now on the other hand there is Amtrak which gets a feast of a subsidy from the taxpayers, and that is sad because the ticket sales don't even pay for the fuel. Without much help, this is why it has been so slow for the railroads to rebuild. One of the smarter railroads like went into a partnership with JB Hunt, and the railroad might hold a major amount of stock in the company; sort of a "if you can't beat 'em, join em" philosophy. I work for the railroad so I'm going to be naturally prejuidiced towards rail, but rail and trucking each has their place. But we are with you on the fuel costs. The railroads are partially responsible for their own demise because if you remember Conrail, they had horrible service and people just gave up on rail and went to trucking even at a higher cost. The other part of the falling of the railroads was lack of government support, while at the same time taxpayers where paying for nice new interstate highways. But certain things are best moved by train, and other things by truck. Lots of heavy weight going a lot of miles across the country is far cheaper by rail. But smaller deliveries are best delivered by truck; the larger railroads don't want to bother with small deliveries like one boxcar, because the money is in large trains of the same or similar products. In some cases a blend of the two works best. They unload ships in Long Beach right to rail, and those containers can travel to the east coast in about 3 days on a priority freight, and be loaded quickly onto truck trailer frames for delivery to their final destination. UPS also does something with trailers on flats, that travel in a priority manner to where they are taken off the flats for prompt delivery. So a combination or rail and truck can work in some cases, truck only for other situations, and rail only for others. Anybody that thinks it should always involve rail is just some type of rail-nut.
