What do you think of Press Release Distribution online

I've read a fair bit recently on online press release distribution, some positive, some negative. I was really surprised at the negative comments and thoughts particularly as I'd just set up a Press Release Distribution site. My personal opinion is that as a distribution site for news stories that may not be picked up by other media sources it can be extremely valuable. It offers a company control over the content and also what links appear for SEO purposes. Traditional media outlets have held a lot of power in the past over what news made it into public consumption and what didn't but now Companies have opportunities to distribute their news to a potentially huge audience. The website I've set up is a specific news distribution site for Isle of Man and Channel Island Companies making the content even more targeted and relevant.
