Not everyone sees "fight one's disability" and "normal life" as what means success, but ofcourse I applaud Mejia for encouraging others on the spectrum and show parents that there's no need to take doctors' prognoses as a statement of fact. Some would rather say "fight with one's disability" and fullfill a happy and productive life without it having to fit into the usual expectations. (Jun 20, 2008 | post #2)

Einstein, Newton displayed autistic traits
This has been a topic I've crossed a couple of times. As we can't truly know for certain I'd say let people believe what they want. We may not say for a known fact that he was autistic, but I we can't say for a known fact that he wasn't either. So respect people who want to believe that e.g. Einstein is autistic, OK? It is understandable that knowledge about autism couldn't have been very high if the diagnosis rate was ever that low. It is great that people want to help people with autism. But *something* tells me that seeking a cure may not be the most effective. Making autism demonized through the media might be what makes the most public attention, but many autism families are in grave need of services and financial support, and scientific research doesn't seem to give that. Autistic students might get more help
If people want to help, they better know how to help, and how to not "help". Alot of resources will often be spent on "helping " a newly diagnosed kid, sadly it often do more harm than good. (Dec 20, 2007 | post #1)
Fever can briefly lighten autism symptoms
Cool if this can lead to help people, but I don't expect much of it. "Behaviour changes included longer concentration span, increased amount of talking and improved eye contact." I remember someone came with the idea that this could be caused by a depletion of energy caused by the fever. (Dec 9, 2007 | post #1)
