a suburban community or a mini-urban community? do you consider the san luis coast area (south county) to be a ex-urb (way outer suburb) of the LA metro area? I definately dont consider south county rural. I think paso robles valley (north county) is definately rural because there are no suburban communities or heaveningly populated areas. what shops would you like to see come to san luis obispo?
SLO is retaining a 1% growth every year. San Luis Obispo is estimated to be at 48,000 population in 2030 right now. Prefumo Creek Commons, the second shopping center being built next to Costco, will have Kohl's and that shopping center is scheduled to be built in 2010. The Chinatown project and Garden Street projects are moving forward and when built in 5 years they include more small chain clothing stores. And in 6 years Macy's will be built at one of 5 locations in downtown - old french hospital block, old creamery block, where the old wells fargo bank is, where the old bank of america is at, or in the garden street terrace project. Rob Rossi is the developer more known to bring Macy's into downtown rather than the Copelands. But who knows, maybe the Copelands might bring Macy's. I'm a big Macy's fan, and I welcome into San Luis Obispo. (Wednesday Jul 30 | post #62)
Santa Maria Town Center mall....
how does it compare to other enclosed malls? architect/attracti veness, stores, entertainment, safety, parking, etc... (Jul 10, 2008 | post #1)
Okay, so some of the problems I see in Santa Maria are the mall has become gang-filled and I'm not sure how great a new theater in the mall will help things in Santa Maria downtown. It seems like a good architectual retrofit in to the mall and buildings surrounding the mall would be good. I mean the Mervyn's near the mall looks like it is from the 50's. The schools have a growing gang problem. The bigger the school the harder it is to control the gang members at them. An easy solution to this is build at least another school in Santa Maria. Another issue is some old parts of the city are becoming run-down and looking like ghettos. Maybe it's time the city slowed growth down for a little bit to fix some of the broken-down neighborhoods and provide community centers to those areas and more police watch to prevent gang issues. Another not gang-related issue in the area is traffic and grid-lock during rush hour. I guess the only solution to this more housing in Orcutt and Nipomo, so people who want to avoid traffic can live away from it. Who agrees these changes need to be made? (Jul 6, 2008 | post #1)
