Woman Claims Father Was the "Zodiac Killer"

She claims she didn't even know about the Zodiac until recently. Hard to believe, really. Since she claims to have written some of the notes sent to papers, handwriting analysis by INDEPENDENT experts could be useful, as well.  (Apr 30, 2009 | post #3)

Texas rep apologies for remarks on Asian names

She hardly apologized, if you read the text of her so-called apology, and the response by Ramey Ko, the person to whom she had been speaking. http://snafu-ed.bl ogspot.com/2009/04 /texas-state-rep-a pologizes-for-rema rk.html  (Apr 11, 2009 | post #3)

Tragic Oakland PD Deaths Cheered, Called "Payback for Oscar Grant"

And why are they not? With the exception of that paragraph in the PD-N and this post, I do not see a furor over this. Why is CNN not reporting this? Or even the SF Chronicle?  (Mar 22, 2009 | post #23)

Obama seeking ways to block AIG bonuses

Unfortunately, if these are in legally binding contracts as they say (from EARLY 2008, who was in OFFICE THEN?) what can he do. Unless you GOP-ers want him to suspend the law (wouldn't that be socialism, gasp?).  (Mar 16, 2009 | post #1)

Jobless numbers reach record high: 4.8 million

It costs 18K to put solar panels on a 1300 sq. ft. house. I checked. The voucher would have to be open-ended. Otherwise, why would people do it? This is the same sort of thing that a GOP rep. said on Maddow last night. Give everyone a voucher to spend $5K on a Chrysler! Well, they are not going to do that becuz they would have to pay for the rest of the car. Duh.  (Jan 29, 2009 | post #10)

Appeals court halts execution of Ga. cop killer

Good. At the very least, give him another trial. 7 out of 9 non-police witnesses recanted? Also, anyone who has spent anytime studying crime will tell you: eyewitness testimony is the weakest form. Too many chances for error. And I don't mean this is shown by watching CSI; I mean serious studies.  (Oct 24, 2008 | post #2)

Palin: Families with Special Needs Kids Would Have a Friend in ...

Sure, but she's still too uniformed. She commented that some earmarks were made for fruit fly reseach. But she didn't know why ... http://thinkprogre ss.org/2008/10/24/ palin-fruit-flies/ "Where does a lot of that earmark money end up anyway? […] You’ve heard about some of these pet projects they really don’t make a whole lot of sense and sometimes these dollars go to projects that have little or nothing to do with the public good. Things like fruit fly research in Paris, France. I kid you not." Turns out this friend of autism doesn't know the fruit fly research she panned has made DISCOVERIES that will help autistic children. "Palin did not specify what fruit fly research earmark she was referring to (presumably a grant for olive fruit fly research), but she is apparently unaware that scientific research with fruit flies has led to valuable discoveries that have boosted autism research, as a study at the University of North Carolina demonstrated last year." Another example of her ignorance.  (Oct 24, 2008 | post #23)

Obama's Scheme: Tax the Poor, Pay the Rich

Problem is, NewsMax is an obviously right-wing site. You need to use a non-partisan group: like the Tax Policy Center: http://www.taxpoli cycenter.org/publi cations/url.cfm?ID =411750 They say: Obama would give larger tax cuts to low- and moderate-income households and pay some of the cost by raising taxes on high-income taxpayers. In contrast, McCain would cut taxes across the board and give the BIGGEST cuts to the HIGHEST-INCOME households.  (Oct 22, 2008 | post #6)

Bill Moyers Journal: ACORN is NOT Voter Fraud

MARK CRISPIN MILLER: These are infractions by grass-roots volunteers who do the wrong thing. That's not voter fraud, however. Voter fraud would be if somebody showed up to vote and said, "Hi, I'm Mickey Mouse. May I vote now?" That's not going on. BILL MOYERS: And does that happen very often? MARK CRISPIN MILLER: It never happens. Let's just talk statistically about this, okay? As of 2007 the Department of Justice had prosecuted - are you ready for this? This number? 120 cases of voter fraud. BILL MOYERS: Over what period? MARK CRISPIN MILLER: Over, well, this is, like four years. Okay? 120 cases. And there were 82 convictions. Now, I think the republic will probably withstand that attack, right? We're talking about voter fraud that's being perpetrated in the tens. And I can tell you, moreover, that not one of those cases of fraud actually involved a person showing up to vote improperly. They were other kinds of fraud. You know, election judges breaking the law and so on. The point I'm making to you here, Bill - and this is the most important thing I'm going to say to you tonight - is that this is a pretext being used by a party, okay, that is itself committing election fraud and vote suppression on an enormous scale. In other words, we have a party that is itself engaged in disenfranchising, actively disenfranchising millions of Americans. It is itself complaining about a group that is supposedly planning to do the same thing but that isn't doing that at all. BILL MOYERS: What's the evidence that say the Republican Party is disenfranchising millions of people? MARK CRISPIN MILLER: Well, first of all, all of these voter purges, the caging of voters, as I described before.  (Oct 19, 2008 | post #1)

2008 Presidential Election

Meet The Press - Powell Endorses Obama

His statements on MTP should, one would hope, shut up all the negative campaigning: "This Bill Ayers situation that's been going on for weeks became something of a central point of the campaign. But Mr. McCain says that he's a washed-out terrorist. Well, then, why do we keep talking about him? And why do we have these robocalls going on around the country trying to suggest that, because of this very, very limited relationship that Senator Obama has had with Mr. Ayers, somehow, Mr. Obama is tainted. What they're trying to connect him to is some kind of terrorist feelings. And I think that's inappropriate. I'm also troubled by, not what Senator McCain says, but what members of the party say. And it is permitted to be said such things as, "Well, you know that Mr. Obama is a Muslim." Well, the correct answer is, he is not a Muslim, he's a Christian. He's always been a Christian. But the really right answer is, what if he is? Is there something wrong with being a Muslim in this country? The answer's no, that's not America. Is there something wrong with some seven-year-old Muslim-American kid believing that he or she could be president?" And more. Let's get back to the way America was. You could be anyone you wanted. America should not be racist, or anti-anyone.  (Oct 19, 2008 | post #461)
