SF attorney to file PROP. 8 challenge

If they don't have equal rights under existing domestic partnership laws then please enlighten us as to what they are missing?  (Nov 5, 2008 | post #58)

SF attorney to file PROP. 8 challenge

Here is the definition of marriage: mar⋅riag e   /&# 712;mærɪd ʒ/ Show Spelled Pronunciation [mar-ij] Show IPA Pronunciation –noun 1. the social institution under which a man and woman establish their decision to live as husband and wife by legal commitments, religious ceremonies, etc. If they already have the same rights under domestic partnership... EQUAL rights... then why the push to take over "marriage ", too?  (Nov 5, 2008 | post #57)

Don't homosexuals already have the same rights as hetero married couples already under domestic partnership laws?  (Nov 5, 2008 | post #44)

Villaraigosa joins boycott of gay event

Once again... I have no problem turning my now marriage into a "civil union" and then having a marriage ceremony throughy my "fundie" church. You all are entitled to your rights just as we are... opinions included. This is a message board for OPINIONS. You don't have to like mine and I don't have to like yours. Let's just leave it at that!  (Jul 29, 2008 | post #34)

Again... you are missing my main point. I'm for "civil unions" affording equal rights to both heterosexuals as well as homosexuals. I just don't think it should be called a "marriage ". You are obviously never going to see my point of view and we should just agree to disagree at this point.  (Jul 28, 2008 | post #29)

I would have no as a heterosexual woman going to the courthouse and getting a license for a "civil union", making it "legal", then going to church and have my pastor perform a ceremony for marriage. Don't think that just because I think differently than you do that I automatically hate homosexual people or think that equal rights are not for all. Also, don't think you're going to change my mind or by insulting me you're going to hurt my feelings. That would be like me trying to convince you to not be gay. We all should have equal rights but does that mean a Christian is entitled to a Bar Miztvah just because he/she wants it? It has nothing to do with equal rights, marriage is a biblical principle and should be left as such. I've said my peace... attack me as you wish. It's funny because you preach equal rights but are intolerant of my and other people's opinions.  (Jul 28, 2008 | post #24)

Did you NOT read that I'm all for "civil unions"? I mean civil unions for ALL! All means homosexual and heterosexual unions. It's basically been turned into a contract by the people anyway. People who fight over property, money, custody, etc. People who demand prenups to protect their assest. Leave marriage to the churches as a religious rite. BTW... calling me a putz head gets your argument nowhere.  (Jul 28, 2008 | post #23)

Perhaps you should learn that not everyone will share your point of view and just accept it. I don't agree with homosexuality and I think marriage should stay between a man and a woman. I will not judge anyone on the basis of their sexual orientation but it does not mean I have to like it or agree with it. Ultimately we all answer to God in the end, not one another.  (Jul 28, 2008 | post #21)

I'm all for the amendment. California voters spoke and then were ignored. Time to speak again. I'm all for domestic partnerships and equal rights but marriage is between a man and a woman. All marriages should be turned into civil unions and let marriage stay within the religous rites as it was intended... a covenant between two people and God.  (Jul 27, 2008 | post #14)

RESCUERS' EL SEGUNDO DOGFIGHT

I regularly shop at that particular PetSmart and shopping center in general. I also plan on writing a letter in support of rescues to the property management. I will refuse to shop at that center if they move them inside. I will also urge my friends to do the same. The people who run these rescue organizations do so out of love and not a desire to "line their pockets" with cash. Most of them have regular jobs and can barely make ends meet with the vet bills and expenses let alone get rich. The dog that I adopted from Dogs Without Borders was rescued originally from a shelter death row. He's now a wonderful member of our family.  (May 4, 2008 | post #27)

Breeze newspaper carrier found dead after freak accident

I'm glad you have a job at such a young age. I was simply commenting on how times have changed since I was your age. Being the parent of a 14 year old, I also know how difficult those early morning hours must be for you since most kids your age value their sleep. Kudos if you can get up early. Back in my day, people were ok with getting their papers after school and back then it really was the perfect job for your age group. Good luck and stay safe.  (May 4, 2008 | post #49)

RESCUERS' EL SEGUNDO DOGFIGHT

Putting down these loving animals is not the answer. I rescued my dog through an "agency" and they don't make a profit. These dogs have vet bills... all require vaccinations, most require spay/neuter, and some require surgery. They also have to pay to feed these dogs. The volunteers who foster dogs/cats do so out of their own graciousness but most of the agencies do provide money for their basic living expenses. This is not a profitable industry. It is something born out of love for God's creatures. I applaud anyone who adopts a pet from a local shelter, too. It's a difficult situation and if you can find a connection with an animal in that chaotic environment, my kudos. I chose to go with an agency since they foster these animals and can provide a great deal of insight as to the animals personality, socialization, and sometimes even former family life. I adopted my dog from Dogs Without Borders and my best friend adopted hers from Rover Rescue. If people think these loving creatures are an eyesore then perhaps they find difficulty seeing beauty in anything at all. I don't see why this is such a huge issue for mall management. It's not a daily activity. They're outside a PET store, not Whole Foods Market or even MAC. To all those who work tirelessly for homeless pets (and people, too), thank you from the bottom of my heart.  (May 4, 2008 | post #8)

Education Briefs

Too bad this event never made the DB homepage or even the front page of the paper. What a shame that the hard work and dedication of these students goes largely unnoticed by the media as well as the community. My daughter and her friends had a picture taken with the mayor in front of their "Animal Abuse Before Slaughter" booth.  (Apr 7, 2008 | post #3)

I attended the Democracy In Action last night at Parras Middle School. It was incredible how these 8th graders put their hearts and souls into their respective projects. Kudos Ms. Barker for your brainchild! I was wholeheartedly impressed!!  (Apr 2, 2008 | post #1)
