I'm happy that FHP didn't drop the investigation so easily. But the proof is in the pudding, if they do not pursue the officers involved in covering up for the accused, then we know for certain that justice no longer prevails in Florida. FHP has to take a more proactive approach to the corruption of city an county police departments. State officers don't have strong ties with individual departments, and can usually do a proper investigation. I know quite a few state troopers that can't stand city cops. (Jun 20, 2008 | post #61)

This embargo has to stop. I'm all for securing the borders. But let's be real. Too many people are dying. I'm not Cuban, nor am I related to any, but I think that this embargo is hurting the people of that country badly. 10000 is a lot of money in cuba. Why pay a smuggler? It's unfortunate that the city is only discussing this proposal with one company. Live Nation has a lot of dough so they can beat most peoples prices. What the city doesn't realize is that they have MORE than enough talent here to produce the event themselves. I don't believe that there is any specific school tax in Broward County. So they would still be contributing into the system. They wouldn't get any breaks, unless the 1000 or so lawyers that live there can figure out how to weasel out of it. (Jun 17, 2008 | post #36)
Think about this for a moment. If the schools were given to Weston. Weston would be responsible for 100% of the schools. That may be more of a savings for Broward County Schools. How much money would the County be able to redistribute to the other schools in the county. Westin would also be responsible for the busing and the school police detail. A music festival would be a great idea. However, the sea show brought together all types of people. A music festival is usually based on one genre of music. Austin does a music festival every year. They have it set up so that all types of music are covered. The old people go during the day and the young people go at night. Multiple stages and types of music. I don't like the idea of this being at the beach though. There is enough garbage being dumped into the ocean and onto the beaches. Have it at one of the parks that the city says that it can't afford. I'm happy that the rookie cops turned him in. It only takes a few good cops to eventually weed out the bad. I just hope that they still have the balls that they once had. He deserves to be fired and have his law enforcement license revoked. This is a breach of the public trust.
