How Do You Treat Snake Bites?

Just for the info--- Most hospitals that have pharmacies will carry the CroFab. This is antivenin for Western and Eastern Diamondbacks, Mojave rattlesnake, Cottonmouths, and Water Moccasins. This is on the pharmacies anitdote lists. It costs hospitals 2000 a vial. This is just so you know.  (Jun 7, 2009 | post #71)

Is It Safe For Humans To Use Animal Medicines? - NewsOn6.com - ...

Most if not all medications passed through the FDA for human consumption were at one time tested on animals. Some of the medications did not make it to the human area of medicine because of the side effects once they got to human trials. I would not recommend taking any medication prescribed for your pet. This is against federal law as a prescription is only for the person(or in this case animal) it was written for, but there are some medicines that may be the same between human and animal dosage forms. Also if you don't know an animal may have a different system of absorption of the medication, so it may require a special dosage form (capsule or tablet).  (Jun 2, 2009 | post #16)

As for the article, I believe that all pharmacies should have at there disposal a air pistol that shoots tranquilizers. This way no one gets hurt, and the offenders can be hauled off to jail. Although I really am not that keen as a taxpayer to have to pay for their incarceration. Just a little different idea.  (May 29, 2009 | post #31)

Now to answer your post. I wasn't debating. I was stating facts. I didn't say you could do the same thing as a doctor either. I would not say it is just as rigorous, because pharmacist are required to do residencies, be on call for 24 hours at a time, or spend overnights at a pharmacy or hospital. It is expensive and time consuming. You do have to maintain a decent GPA. However I will grant you that there is some overlap in the material that each degree covers.  (May 29, 2009 | post #29)

OkieLinduh: Yes I am a registered pharmacist, and have been for 15 years. I know what it takes to become one. It is not the same as a physician. They have to take a MCAT, then get into med school. They have other requirements than what pharmacy school has to even be able to submit an application to Med School. Residencies are not mandatory for pharmacy students, they are encouraged. I know that the schooling is tough, but the MD or DO route has residencies, and then on to specialization. This is different as a pharmacist. I appreciate the fact that you have a pharmacist in the family, but the schooling is not the same. A Pharm.D. is a 6 year program where a MD or DO is at least 8 if not 10 years after specialization to even be ready for practice.  (May 29, 2009 | post #26)

OkieLinduh--The pharmacist degree is no where near what an MD or DO degree is. Just wanted to set that straight.  (May 29, 2009 | post #21)

Tulsa Church Damaged In Overnight Accident

Again the FDA will not allow this with the current system. If you to be able to buy any drug at any time, then I think you may have a serious problem. They way you want it no one tells you of possible side effects, or drug to drug interactions. I would be willing to bet there would be more drug induced deaths with a free for all for all medications. If you want the Controlled medications to be able to be bought what about any other medication that isn't controlled (eg: blood pressure medications). There is a reason why you have to get seen by a physician, and get a prescription for these medications. You are wanting to open Pandora's box, and I am sure the negatives will outweight the positives in this instance. BTW thanks for the compliment noodles  (May 13, 2009 | post #18)

First off Mark, hydrocodone is legal in the US. You have to have a prescription for it, just like any other medication that you can not buy over the counter. What age do we set as the limit at which you can obtain your drugs. The FDA will not change control status on a medication without medical studies proving that it is a medically necessary medication. That is why crack cocaine is class I, yet powder and liquid cocaine is class II. If you are advocating that medications be available to anyone who wants them at anytime without advise of a medical professional, then that is a bit "nutty". You really want Joe Public to be able to obtain any drug they want at any time, or are you advocating legalization within the limits of specialized physicians.  (May 12, 2009 | post #8)

Noodles--I know that you can keep 6/day at lower Illinois. You can look up on Oklahoma fish and game website (google). There are a lot of rules in a lot of the trout fishing areas in Oklahoma, and I can't remember them all till I get to where I am going. I mostly do catch and release.  (Apr 3, 2009 | post #37)

You can fish for rainbows at lower Illinois at Gore, a bit south and east of Muskogee. Also have a trout stream in Sapulpa, can't remember name. Occasionally get to go with my brother to Siloam Springs,ARK, where he is a member of a club that has private water. There is also somewhere down by Broken Bow, but I haven't been there. The Tulsa Fly Fishers Association has stocked the pond in the tulsa park behind the strip mall at 71 and memorial's southwest side.  (Mar 29, 2009 | post #9)
