Where Oh Where?

Wow, managed to read a good thread right up until post #10. I just KNEW it was going to have to end soon with someone coming in and peeing in our cornflakes and screwing up a pretty interesting thread. Raspberries to you, Dilla.  (Wednesday Dec 2 | post #18)

Christmas Festival

You are absolutely right. I went and bought our armbands today. $6.00 for adults and $4.00 for kids. That was at the Chamber of Commerce.  (Wednesday Dec 2 | post #11)

Ranger Band will perform at Natchitoches Festival of Lights Parade

It's my understanding that whenever the Grambling band travels, those expenses are covered by the community in which they are going to play, as well as the fee for their appearance. And I hear it's pretty pricey. The comment about the band bringing in a bad crowd was totally unnecessary and uncalled for. I was present at the Christmas Festival one year when some guy went nuts in the crowd below the balcony I was standing on and shot someone. Gonna blame that on the Grambling Band too? The Grambling Band puts on an incredible show and deserves all the accolades it receives. And I don't blame them one bit for charging what they are worth. I hate that they don't play the Christmas Festival parade anymore, but life goes on. If you want to see them perform, attend a football game where they'll be playing.  (Thursday Nov 26 | post #5)

moving to your town

Hi Texas Man. Please don't consider this forum a reliable source. Like one of the op's said, come, visit, talk to the people, tour the schools, talk to a realtor. Plan to stay several days and get the real feel of the place. It is a good place to live or I wouldn't have returned after being gone 23 years. I chose to move "home" to raise my own Kiddo. Like anywhere else, it has its pitfalls and promise. Good luck in your search.  (Friday Nov 20 | post #17)

What book are you reading now?

A microbiology textbook, 13 1/2 by Nevada Barr, and a couple others that are just mind candy. Dan Brown's "Lost Symbol" was a really good read, had a breakneck pace, I was exhausted by the time I finished it, lol!  (Friday Nov 13 | post #21)

End School Uniforms

I love the uniforms, it's easy and quick in the mornings. I would be all for letting kids express their "individualit y", but at school kids' ages, it's a "pack mentality" and e1 dresses like their clique says they must dress, and that's not individuality. Also, many young people these days just do not use good judgement in the way they dress. It's hard enough now to enforce the policies, it's is very inconsistent and subjective. Can you just imagine what it would be like if they didn't have uniforms? Then parents would be all up on their dewclaws because they have to leave work to take their child clothes that are within the "dress code" guidelines. I say keep the uniforms. I also buy at Land's End and those hold up beautifully. My child is on year 2 of the same polo shirts and they are just as nice looking now as they were when I bought them. I get uniform pants at Academy for 9.50 a pair and the uniform shirts from Land's End are $12.50 each when you buy 2 or more, that's not more expensive than the stores around here, and they ALWAYS have them in stock.  (Oct 16, 2009 | post #12)

obama's children will not take H1N1 vaccination

Oh, good grief. If the Obama girls aren't taking the vaccine, that's their choice. But to say that they aren't taking it to make sure that healthcare workers and others will receive them instead, puleeeze. For cryin' out loud, it's TWO freakin' doses.  (Oct 9, 2009 | post #5)

walmart and their prices

LMAO, King of Keyser, you are truly funny! And as for my pampered fanny, obviously you have NO clue, cause is ain't little at all. And that throne of mine? You forgot to mention that the padded seat is also covered in siberian sable.  (Aug 18, 2009 | post #18)

walmart and their prices

When it comes to grocery shopping, I'll take the Brookshire's on the bypass ANY day. The last time I did a major grocery shopping haul I saved the receipt and went into WM and compared some of the items. With my loyalty card discounts, I actually came out waaaaaay cheaper than I would have at Wal-Nutz. I hate that place. Half the time the products are out of stock, or they've moved it to Timbuktu, just so you will buy more impulse purchases while you troll around looking for the latest weird place they've stashed that item you're looking for. Also, the concept of customer service at this WM here is practically non-existent. And you are so right about the non-working bathrooms being disgusting. And as for the meat they sell - I wouldn't touch that tasteless, 13% added saline solution garbage with TWO 10 ft. poles. But as long as folks insist on shopping there, and falling victim to their marketing practices, WM will continue to dominate the scene. Put your money where your mouth is, folks. Don't set foot in there. Believe me, everything that WM has can also be found in lots of other places here in town.  (Aug 18, 2009 | post #16)
