Big Isle bill to ban plastic bags vetoed
Thank goodness that bill was vetoed. Government should not be forcing us, this is not China or Cuba. It should be done in a way to get people to make the right choice. Willie is on the right track, start out small by charging 5 cents for plastic. That bill was written horribly. I am sick of government legislating our behavior! (Saturday Sep 20 | post #12)
I thought Panos was a breath of fresh air. Mufi avoided answering the tough questions with political bs, and Ann appeared flustered at times. I think we should give Panos a chance, as he is smart, knows infrastructure and is not part of the old boy machine. True, Panos is not a polished political speaker, but he answered the questions put to him. (Wednesday Sep 10 | post #186)
I agree with Mike Freitas! I, too, moved out here long ago, but it wasn't just based on the promises he listed. This was the only area that I could afford! Hawaii is the only state I have ever seen that builds houses and townhomes without infrastructure like new roads, schools etc ALREADY IN PLACE! Try drive around new developments on the mainland sometime...new roads are in empty fields years before the first houses are built! Government here has failed us. I have never seen development so back **** wards! The train is NOT going to fix it either. Build roads now! (Aug 29, 2008 | post #16)
Add disqualified to Wie's woes
I agree with you on the parents, that is why I am not a fan of hers. Maybe her behavior and mistakes sabotaging her matches is her conscious or unconscious way of rebelling against her parents. She seemed to handle the matches and pressure just fine until about a year and a half ago. But in any case, I agree that the rules must be followed. This particular rule should be eliminated though, since there is no need for cards at the pro level anymore. There are officials and media keeping track of every player now so no need for the honor system of scoring. (Jul 20, 2008 | post #96)
Add disqualified to Wie's woes
Hey mistakes happen. I bet all you trash talkers out there didn't know that Hawaii's Dean Wilson did the very same thing in 2005 at the Buick Invitational! And he did not get the hate that Wie is getting here! I am not a fan of Wie, but I am sickened by all the comments on here trashing that young lady. I did a search and I found many more famous golfers who did the same thing. For you disbelievers, here is the article about Wilson: http://sports.espn .go.com/golf/news/ story?id=1972959 Natalie Gulbis, another young golfer did the same thing: http://www.thegolf blog.com/2006/10/n atalie-gulbis-disq ualified-after.htm l (Jul 20, 2008 | post #92)
Examine losing strategy of fighting teenage smoking
Bravo! I agree! The antis are increasingly using tactics that threaten our rights under the constitution. Where is the ACLU? Oh I guess they only support minorities or causes of THEIR choosing... (Jul 19, 2008 | post #2)
Djou offers proposals to put rail vote on ballot
Put it on the ballot! This is the largest and MOST EXPENSIVE project ever undertaken here! The people need a say in something of this magnitude. Those dog and pony shows the mayor put on did not give us our say. I had questions and they ignored me. Let us vote! (Jul 19, 2008 | post #9)
State Farm Fair gets agricultural
I agree with the above posters. True county and country farm fairs are a mix of family friendly events. Go to any fair on the mainland in farm country and they look like the farm fair did when it was held at McKinley HS. There are rides, 4H animal judging, baking contests, friendly contests to see whose horse or mule team can pull the most weight, sideshows, cotton candy, they have it all! The farm fair is a chance for city kids to get up close and personal with farm animals, and a time for farm families to cut loose and have fun with the contests and rides. By separating the farm from the fun, and choosing a poor location, you will ruin it. (Jul 19, 2008 | post #4)
Bravo Steve Baker! I was saying those things myself! One difference is: Those in the midwest and other places are taught self reliance. They don't EXPECT outsiders and government to give them freebies, so they don't whine on national TV like the Katrina victims did. The Katrina victims are born of a welfare state. 'Lost' in race for Emmy's best drama
I watch many shows, but Lost is so great, I watch each episode more than once! It is also the only show I have bought on DVD! (Jun 27, 2008 | post #3)
Jaycees raise funds for Aloha Festivals parade
Why aren't any of the Hawaiian groups pitching in to help? This parade helps to preserve cultural ways and educate the public? (Jun 27, 2008 | post #1)
