That was my question to a friend who is kinda high up in Hawaiian Air. He said the reason for the difference in price between flights to Hawaii and flights across the mainland is --- are you ready for this???? ---- COMPETITION! You ever go pick at Volcano? Even Native Hawaiian Gathering rights have permits - you cannot just go pick, you gotta tell folks you doing it - fill out the form - you gotta follow the law. That's what these folks didn't do - they didn't follow the law. Find out the law before you go pick - whatever you gonna pick... I agree, but years ago the state granted the University system autonomy. This means that the University is supposed to be allowed to operate independent of the Legislature. However, after the Dobelle debacle, the Legislature felt it necessary to step in... They need to step out now and let the University take on responsibility for its own actions and mistakes. Actually, the state constitution mandates that the citizens have the OPTION of holding a con-con... We have a choice - make it an educated choice! Read the state Constitution, research the issues and then decide. The most important thing is go and VOTE on the issue. Remember - a BLANK vote is counted as a NO! Make your voice heard!
