Beulah Park adds games; are they slots?

Go For It is correct. These types of gaming machines have been around the area for years; but have a gambling establishment install them to help them out and WHOA! now there's a story. It's too easy of a story. Now we'll read a bunch of editorials about this is wrong, yada, yada, yada. What's wrong is paying $1.00 for the daily paper. Now there's a gamble.  (Wednesday Nov 11 | post #16)

'A historic pocket' | The Columbus Dispatch

If you look at the picture in the paper, the worker "working " looks like he's texting on his cell phone. Obviously not a poised picture.  (Monday Nov 9 | post #5)

Woman, 70, kills intruder at motel | The Columbus Dispatch

So she shot the guy and he died. Wow, she's a better shot than some of the police! Perhaps she should teach the PD on the range. Oh, and the motel chain should hire her for security. Make my day.  (Oct 22, 2009 | post #296)

Ohio's casino issue debated

Well I have to weigh in with a few things everyone should know. If Issue 3 passes, Ohio will more than likely lose Thoroughbred and Harness racetracks. These tracks employe 15,000 and more jobs either directly or indirectly. I've read where the racing industry generates $900 million to the state annually. When I go to a casino, I do not leave the grounds to go elsewhere to eat so yes, the surrounding business will not gain any additional customers due to a casino (maybe parking?). But yes, we need to stop the $ leaving the state but not with Issue 3. Come on legislature, allow casino gambling and stop all of this insanity. Stop taking lobbyist money. Do the right thing.  (Oct 15, 2009 | post #31)

At least 5 sought in bar fight, shooting | The Columbus Dispatch

Obviously, the state needs to enact a tougher sign law. Make it bigger that states No Weapons Allowed in here. Make that red circle larger. If the gun depiction doesn't match the gun carried, then I guess it's ok to bring it in. Also, have gun dealers only sell blanks in Ohio. Oh and bullet proof sweater vests. Belly up to the bar.  (Oct 12, 2009 | post #26)

Children Services seeks levy

Ok, on a $100K valued home, you're paying $95 per year now. If this passes, your tax would increase $28 to $123 per year. $7.91 per month to $10.25 per month. My only problem is the high paid staff in upper management. Are we the tax payer truly getting our moneys worth?  (Oct 11, 2009 | post #18)

Many avoid casino stance

For over 10 years, the (R) legislature has been promoting expanded gambling but was fought by the (D) governor. Well now that the (D) governor wants expanded gambling, the (R) legislature is now against it. Wow, talk about politics. No one in government really cares about the workers or the state in general. Write the law; let the lottery control all casino type gambling and be done with it. WAKE UP OHIO. No on #3. Take the politics and $$lobbying out and do the right thing. Anyone want to place their bet?  (Oct 11, 2009 | post #13)

Wendy's starts new line of ads | The Columbus Dispatch

Preface - I used to work at their corp office. What went wrong with the company? 1996 - Jim Near, CEO, died of a heart attack. Gordon Teeter moved to CEO - great job but died in Powell of Pneumonia in 2000. Jack transfered from regional office to CEO. CFO retired and the great board of directors hired Karri Anderson as CFO from MI Homes. Jack had no clue to run a large company and Anderson wanted to expand having not clue about hamburgers. Acquisitions followed. Dave Thomas died in 2002, all of the remaining SVP's left/retired. Jack dumped when sales/profit feel and Anderson promoted to CEO (way to go board!). Sales fell, morale went down the tubes and the company was sold to Arbys in stead of a more knowledgeable franchisee (way to go board!). The rest is history.  (Oct 10, 2009 | post #30)

Hollywood, Indiana: Model for a Columbus casino appears to be a...

I see an issue that's being over looked .. smoking. You can't smoke <legally> at any casino built in Ohio; whereas you can in Indiana or West Virginia. The slots areas that are for non-smokers are smaller in size than for the smokers.  (Oct 5, 2009 | post #22)

O'Brien can't get involved just yet in casino ad dispute

I have an idea. We can drop all of this mess if our Gov and legislature would authorize full casino gambling via the Ohio Lottery. Kills Issue #3 and the state controls all of it (fees, % of income and payouts). Of course, the out of state gambling interests will fight it. Let's not change the constitution for a few; it's just short sighted.  (Sep 25, 2009 | post #16)
