Sharp rise seen in S.C. concealed weapons permits

Great Job South Carolina! Regardless of what some people say, an armed socity is a polite and safer socity.  (Nov 3, 2009 | post #11)

Suspect Picks Wrong House - wtvr

A duty to retreat.......not good. The 'tresspasser' would be better off to not make a bad decision and break into my house.  (Nov 3, 2009 | post #29)

St. Mary's PD

I am hearing around town that the chief is 'removing' any and all officers that don't 'jump in his line' and that have ANY opinion that dosn't mirror his own. I've also heard for several years that many (senior and junior officers) see SMPD as a 'training PD'......get out of the acadamy, work at SMPD for awhile, and then move on to better pay and better departments. 'Our' elected city officals hired this chief....my question running through my head is is this chief falling 'in line' with the mayor and city council's wishes or is he 'changing' things on his own? Either way it's a breakdown in leadership. A few years ago I went to several city council meetings to voice my concern about them (mayor and council members) wanting to get rid of SMPD and have the Sheriff's Dept. take over city patrols. I wanted to keep our PD and the officers. Now all this 'drama' is occuring. I'll wager a vote to get rid of the PD will come up again in the near future and with public opinion now becoming firmly negitive aginst our PD it'd pass. These are 'our' representives..... if we want a change, we have to direct 'our' elected officals to make a change.  (Oct 28, 2009 | post #143)

There does seem to be a 'mass exiting' of senior personnal at SMPD, wether fired or quiting. I'm wondering how this drama is gonna play out.......  (Oct 27, 2009 | post #141)

Navy pushes to allow women on submarines; wives worry about tem...

Diversity is what makes this country great! Having said that, the 'political-correct ness' does indeed needs to stop at certin points. Stright talk is best. I'm a submariner and I, as well, have served with women (shore duty) and have even been lucky enough to have had brief periods of having women underway ON SUBS with us. Like the men, there are both professional and honorable women serving and would do a great job. There were also 'those' women........I'll leave it at that. There's no diffrence in gender, there are great many men who do thier jobs professionally and with honor.....and then there are 'those' guys as well. It's just a fact of life. Befor women can truely serve on subs full time there will have to be some more 'accomodations' put in place and intergrated on the submarines. Just putting them onboard right now would be a bad and inconvenient idea. I believe subs should remain a 'mens club', but that's just my opinion. I also believe that women will be serving on subs at some point as well. That's just the way it's gonna be.  (Oct 23, 2009 | post #22)

NRA convention venue seeks OK for alcohol, weapons

If anything, the NRA represents responsable firearm use and ownership. It's doubtful we'll see a 'bloodbath' at this years 'drunken gun-nut show'  (May 5, 2009 | post #67)

North vs South

Yankee, southern........ there are PLENTY of rude people on BOTH sides of the Mason-Dixon line. If there are 'southern' individulals who can't let go of a war they were not a part, then let 'em be. Being annoyed by the simple minded to the point of venting to them is pretty simple minded as well. I'm A 'southerner' and I've got plenty of other, more importent issues to occupy myself with than whine about anybody celebrating a defeat. I hear about the 'war' from as many 'northerners' as I do 'southerners'.There are a lot of wonderful people from either side of the M-D line.......I married one. I've lived up north and down south......both places heve thier good and bad points. Why don't we all just grow up and move on?  (May 5, 2009 | post #8)

Renew the ban on assault weapons

3 planeloads of people let 5 men armed with hand tools take over airplanes - because that's what they've been told to do. As soon as the 4th planeload of people find out how they've been lied to, they take action and save many more lives. - Hundreds of students cower under desks waiting be rescued from 1 man with 2 handguns, and the only person to do ANYTHING is an octogenarian who gets killed for his efforts to protect the strong, healthy, 18-22 year old "adults" hiding in fear. The most played interview is of a young man who was simply waiting to die. He is called "heroic" . - A man starts shooting in an immigrant center, and police take 45 minutes to enter the building, while people hide like scared rabbits waiting to be rescued. The police state that their response time was irrelevant - the victims would have died anyway. Oh yes, we have reached the point where helplessness is considered noble, where former soldiers are considered security risks because the government trained them to kill, and the people whose "job" it is to protect us simply shrug their shoulders and pick up the bodies. Wussies doesn't really cover it. this is a copied post taken from http://tech.slashd ot.org/article.pl? sid ... &art_pos=7 He's right, just as your history lesson is right. It's time for us to stand up and it's past time for "we the people" to vote REAL representatives in our goverments (local, state, AND federal) "of the people, by the people, and for the people".  (May 1, 2009 | post #897)

Drug Control Begets Gun Control

Americans want thier drugs. The cartels want to sell 'em here and will 'fight' to keep them flowing accross the border. The cartel's guns are NOT coming from the US and I'm NOT sorry for Mexico's problems even if 'our' elected goverment says 'we' are.  (Apr 26, 2009 | post #4)

Renew the ban on assault weapons

Why don't we just outlaw 'assult' first? The UK banned ALL firearms and now parents are starting to purchase kevlar for thier children.  (Apr 12, 2009 | post #795)

Prospects dim for new restrictions on gun ownership

Enforcement is much better than 'new' laws that criminals won't follow anyway.  (Apr 12, 2009 | post #2)
