Isn't it ironic?

Don't forget all of the Limo's that they will be driven around in. The Country of Denmark didn't have enough Limo's so they have to lease more from other European countrys.  (Thursday | post #3)

District cuts staff, time

Then what about the contract the state had with the district? If the state doesn't honor it's contract with the district, how can the bus company expect the district to honor its contract with them.  (Sunday Dec 6 | post #26)

On the contrary, STOP using the Busses and START driving your kids to school. Eliminate the busses for a while until the budget problems get fixed.  (Sunday Dec 6 | post #24)

Thats one thing i will agree with you on Lets not resort to name calling. OK We're all in the same sinking boat here. My point is, that if we have too many people doing one job, cut the waste and do more with less. I have many friends that are teachers and have a lot of respect for them, but teaching is no different than any other business and when times are tough, cuts need to be made. We need to get back to the basics and cut out some of the niceties for a while until things get better.  (Saturday Dec 5 | post #19)

Mini-a mansionsa debate

It's not wrong if that is the way it is before you buy the property, then it's just stupidity on your part. If you don't like it, you shouldn't have bought the place. When I go to Disney World, I pay a fee to get in , I spend lots more money while in there, I enjoy my self, have lots of fun with the kids and then I leave. I don't try and run the place just because I'm there and paid money to them. If you want to have voter rights, RESIDE here. Otherwise you don't live here, you are just visiting. With a nice place to stay.  (Friday Dec 4 | post #35)

And just what are these ultra important, specialized things that the superintendent does? And how much does the superintendent make for sitting at a desk making these decisions. And with all due respect, Massini or any other bus company for that matter, DID have to do that or they would probably not find themselves working for BHRSD when their contracts were up. As far as the school committee not having a clue, I find it hard to believe that a committee made up of mostly parents of BHRSD students or past students has no clue about the value of their childs school program. It doesn't take a six figure salary and a nice suit to figure out that our kids need to read, write, add and subtract or that many of our busses are half full. Oh, and by the way, this is exactly what happens when you depend on the government. The programs are really nice and wonderful, but when the money dries up where the hell are we then? We're left holding the bag trying to figure out how to pay for all of the great programs the government started for us. But you wouldn't know that because you don't watch FOX News. I guess the truth is just too unbearable. Better get ready for a lot more of these kinds of cuts.  (Friday Dec 4 | post #10)

2 points. First, maybe there are some positions that really should be cut. There are surely some people employed simply to lighten the load of someone else. If it means that somebody has to work a little harder, than so be it. Be thankful you still have a job. As far as classes being cut, I can remember when I was in school at BHRSD there were always teachers in the teachers offices during any given period of the day. That means that they are not teaching for the straight 7 hours of the day. There are always teachers that have a free period. Put them into one of the classes that have been cut. These are tough times. They can suck it up and deal with it for a while until things get better. Be thankful you still have a job. What about cutting the superintendents position. Certainly the school board is capable of making any decisions that the superintendent makes. They may have to meet a little bit more often, they may have to communicate with the individual school principals a little bit often, but certainly the superintendent believes the childrens education is more important than his own job. All the superintendent needs to do is resign immediately. This would save tens of thousands. The district has gotten by without a superintendent before while looking for new ones, there's no reason why they cant get by now without one. Do the right thing please. Second point. As I read the story, I don't see what the bus companies are doing to help out here. What concessions are they making? How many of their employees are taking pay cuts to help get us through this? I realize that times are tough, but at least you still have a job. Have you ever looked at some of the school busses in the morning? Many of them are only half full. This is completely irresponsible of the bus companies and there needs to be more oversight from the school district. Maybe one of the people who is about to lose their job should be in charge of the bus routes and making sure the busses are full. I bet that person could find a way to eliminate waste in the bus route to save his own job. America is the greatest country on the planet. But, we have it way to easy these days. We have forgotten what it's like to have to do more with less. Well now it is more important than ever to make sure we do. We are so used to working in an office with 10 or 20 other people to spread the work load around and we have no idea what it is like to be straight out all day long. It's time to suck it up and make the cuts for our children. When we eventually do get through these hard times, lets not be so quick to jump back into the kettle again. If we don't need an extra employee, lets not hire one. Period. These people only work 9 months a year and they have very , very good benefits. They can work a little harder like the rest of us if they want to keep their jobs. After all, they're doing it for the children.  (Friday Dec 4 | post #2)

It's not like the town would need the additional tax money that would be assessed on a more valuable, larger house. And the construction business is booming, so there aren't any builders available to build these large houses anyway. And the suppliers that would be providing materials for these large jobs can't keep supplies on the shelves now. And what about the gardeners and the lawn guys and painters and all the other trades that would be employed at all of these so called McMansions. I guess they really don't need the work during these good times.  (Thursday Dec 3 | post #2)

Pittsfield woman back at home, mother says

Your 12 year old is more responsible because he is , well.... 12. 12 year olds are supposed to tell their parents what they are doing and where they are going. It's not that nobody gives a crap, its that it is not our business what a grown adult does or does not do.  (Thursday Nov 26 | post #44)

Giving thanks for Obama

Thanks Lauren , for the great column. Now if you go back and read what you wrote, you'll realize that Nobama has been a complete failure. Nobody can stand him any more. His own party is abandoning him. His polls are at the lowest yet even with the house passing Nancy's Health care bill. So lets be thankful that Nobama won this election. After seeing what the real agenda of the far left is, it will be many, many years before we see another dem in the white house. So lets be thankful.  (Wednesday Nov 25 | post #15)
