Xenos Christian Fellowship is a CULT!

I have been around some similar "fellowships. " To my mind it adds up to to Christianity lite. If you can corral a whole lot of young folks, pump them up by telling them how special they are, throw a few prayers and praise songs over the whole thing then they can justify pushing the envelope on outrageous recreational behavior. I believe that there is even some thinking behind it that it acts like a funnel. Bring a lot of these folks together with lightness and no commitment and then gradually push those who can be moved into more serious pursuits, and greater control. I think that is the Youth for Christ model and some others have used it as well.  (1 hr ago | post #444)

And you DARED to say I was WHINING?

The move toward group practice, and ever larger groups (many now a part of hospital conglomerates) has been going on for decades.  (1 hr ago | post #50)

What do you mean by "accepting Obamacare"? Do you understand that there is no health care plan by that name? The providers of coverage will continue to be the same as they currently are: private plans, Medicaid and Medicare. Now then, do you know any doctors currently refusing to accept payment from a private plan because it may also cover abortion services? In fact, most private insurers provide many different plans negotiated with all kinds of entities--pricing coverage as required by the buyer. So far as I am aware, the only thing that might approach mandated abortion coverage would be limited to cases of rape, incest or health of the mother. That is why we had some very silly Republicans going around trying to define "legitimate rape" last year. Their fear is that if women who are raped are allowed coverage for abortion, well then, women might just say that they were raped and get an abortion for some other reason (just like the women who can afford to pay out of pocket). So far as I know, that attempt died out with the rest of the campaign silliness. Also--nurses don't generally get to make decisions about insurance plans they will accept. Few nursing services are covered unless in a supervised context where such decisions are being made by others--doctors and accountants.  (1 hr ago | post #49)

There was considerable regulation around the issue of abortion. No federal dollars can pay for abortion. There are even "firewalls " to guarantee that the dollars paid by abortion opposers don't cross over into the plans of those who don't mind it. I am not up on the specifics of how this will work--but it was a big issue that had to be resolved in order to get the bill passed. As far as docs being required to perform abortions? My hunch is that this is outside the scope of the law--but the closest thing to that I have ever seen is that various providers have been required to make referrals when asked, if they do not do the procedures themselves. This is not particularly new, however. Let me point out to you an additional way to look at the issue of abortion and conscience. So long as abortion remains legal, regardless of whether it is covered by insurance or not, certain people of means will have access, and therefore the ability to act in concert with their own conscience. Those who depend on coverage--whether through an employer or the government--to guarantee access to health care, will be limited to a certain set of moral parameters chosen for them by others. And that, to my mind, is hard to justify.  (1 hr ago | post #48)

ABC News--Oops, our bad

I believe you were the one who brought it up, George. You never should have asked about my GPA. Frankly, I do not even remember what my SAT scores were anymore. PSAT was good enough to qualify for National Merit Scholarship. And whatever I scored on a mathematics test that the State of Michigan gives was good enough to garner a letter from MIT asking me to apply. Good for a giggle since that was not at all my area of interest. But all of that was long ago, George. Not the sort of stuff I hope makes it into my obit at the end of my life. Far more satisfying accomplishments along the way.  (2 hrs ago | post #257)

BTW--if you were to click on the Michelle Bachman link you would see that her views on 9-11 (vis a vis "deservingnes s") are remarkably similar to those of the Reverend Dr. Wright. They just disagree on the nature of the sins committed by the US.  (2 hrs ago | post #56)

In fact the most recent time you brought up the rate of Protestant church molestation (and I have never challenged it as being equivalent to that of Catholics, teachers, scout leaders, coaches--or essentially any group with access to children), I redirected you to the question of institutional cover-up, which is where the RCC stands out. Still waiting for your data on that one. Denial ain't just a river in Egypt, George.  (2 hrs ago | post #53)
