No, I did not know this. This is the first I've ever heard about this! Do you have a link or something about this? Like I said, this is the first I ever heard of this. I would like to read more about this via your links. Did these Americans leave to avoid the draft? Exactly how many "thousands " left? One? Two? More telling is that some returned to the USA after the turn of the century, like the descendants of your professor. Why did they return? Didn't they like Mexico? They seemed to like Mexico well enough when avoiding the draft. Returning to the USA suggests that maybe they realized that they had more of a future in the USA rather than in their "adopted " country of Mexico. I don't see second-generation Mexicans here going back to Mexico. Sounds like Opportunists to me; they have no loyalty, they just go where they can make a buck and avoid going to war. The big difference is that white men in the US KNOW IT'S WRONG. Because it is a cultural tradition in Mexico, Mexican men think it's ok. In fact, they think it's "romantic " and "macho." It may be illegal by law there, but in the outlying rural regions, it is accepted and ongoing. Which always brings me to this point (whenever talking about this topic): WHAT ARE THE CATHOLIC CHURCHES IN MEXICO DOING ABOUT IT? Nada.
