Reid trying to ram through health care bill

Irrational: for example, BCBS is in business in multiple states and it has not brought costs down. Multiple labyrinths of corporate regulations have a significant effectHypocritical : you want less government yet are willing to impose arbitrary rules placed on malpractice. Malpractice claims and awards should be up to the courts and a jury to decidePartially true: It was under Nixon, a republican, when health insurance got tied to business. Your solutions don’t fix the pre-existing condition issue. Nor the fundamental flaw of the current system that if you get sick, you can’t work, and if you can’t work, you can’t payBetter than blindersIrrational : Is the rest of the world totally worse off than we are? Japan? England? France? Germany? Switzerland? Total disaster? Sky will fallIrrational: No stock market crash, stocks healthy, signs of recovery last month, home sales up. The socialist unemployment system is working to keep people in their homesIrrational: the pardon is tradition. Should we forgo tradition? Should Obama take lots of time off like W did? Spend a few mil on a photo op in AfghanistanIrratio nal: health care has been a major issue for years, a major campaign issue. The government is trying to do its job as it was given a mandate by the votersA loud a vocal minority. Also, your man McCain made it more difficult to unseat incumbents. I’ll vote for a libertarian foreign policy.  (13 hrs ago | post #39)

Legitimate fear of government boondoggle, I agree. But when a company fails, and many do, they go bankrupt. So what? Of course government fails at everything right? Roads and bridges, never ever come in on budget or on time. And all the bridges have failed, every one. Police and fire, always overbudget and never put out fires or haul in the crooks. Every college and university, failures. Everyone knows that all doctors and engineers could have easily been homeschooled for free. Would I rather government stick to basics, less red tape, not give in to special interests, mind our own business, yeah.  (Yesterday | post #32)

Reid trying to ram through health care bill

Who said anything about the proposed bill being free? And besides, ER healthcare is already free for the ones ending up in the ER withoug paying for it. Then, anyone else with insurance ends up paying for it. We also pay for those indirectly through bankruptcies. Lack of health insurance is the leading cause of bankrkuptcies. So if your concerned about some people getting care for free (when actually many would rather even pay for an affordable policy) then you should be real upset with the way things are now. Im not real thrilled with the bill but I think its better than nothing. If you can bring down costs through competition and spreading the risk pool, solve the pre-existing condition issue, then you have come a long way.  (Wednesday Nov 25 | post #32)

Agreed, a universal healthcare system is not directly mandaded as such but is not unconstitutional as I think C.L.N. argued previously. Torture is unconstitutional, wrong, and otherwise bad strategy. Im upset at the general republican hypocrosy on the issue: fear of government, yet allowing this most gross violation of our constitution by our government. Fear of our governemt, yet promoting our government to impose itself militarily on other countries. "Amendment 8 Excessive bail shall not be required, nor excessive fines imposed, nor cruel and unusual punishments inflicted." I wont go into it any further.  (Tuesday Nov 24 | post #26)

Ok so this time the CBO is wrong about deficit reduction and it is all smoke and mirrors. Never mind the CBO a month ago was all truth.  (Tuesday Nov 24 | post #26)

Nation building is not constitutioally mandated. World policeman is not constitutionally mandated. Global military domination is not constitutionally mandaded. However, it has been mistakenly interpreted as such. (including republican torture which is forbidded by the constitution) "Section 8 - Powers of Congress The Congress shall have Power To lay and collect Taxes, Duties, Imposts and Excises, to pay the Debts and provide for the common Defence and general Welfare of the United States;" The post office and roads are mandated by the constitution as well as providing for the general welfare.  (Tuesday Nov 24 | post #22)

NM may close state parks because of budget cuts

Stopping at the border might help some. But you have to somehow come down on the people hiring illegals to really stop it. Which would of course mean more government intervention.  (Sunday Nov 22 | post #52)

Republicans of Today: On one hand say, "Get government out of everything" "the government is going to tell you what to do" "government will destroy us" But then turn right around and say, "We must use our military might to impose our control on the world in every country" Which kind of makes the first statements true!  (Sunday Nov 22 | post #8)

The no government thing really sounds great. And its too bad we dont have a huge, freely giving, charitable society. I really would rather have that. But we dont. And this primarily for profit patchwork system we have has failed to reign in costs. If an abortion is elective surgery, then it should not be covered. However, if its some kind of complication, or even rape, maybe it should be covered. What if its anecephaly? Advances in medicine do not come from insurance companies. They come from public and private partnerships mostly originating through Universities. The publicly funded and administered NIH and NSF fund basic and applied research with supplier and drug corporation funds further pushing research into application. Not always but most of the major discoveries come from Universities and National Laboratories. You are concerned that government will ration health care, and that is a concern I agree, however, you are not concerned that corporations are already rationing health care. Corporations are already between you and your doctor. I dont know how but recent CBO estimations say there will be a deficit reduction in the bill in the news lately. So the CBO must be wrong this time right?  (Sunday Nov 22 | post #21)

Its a fascinating, and disturbing site, sounds like you would enjoy it. You still have not offered a viable solution. You just blame Obama. And eventually, we wont be able to do anything if were bankrupt.  (Sunday Nov 22 | post #104)

Our health care system is broken. The free market principle has a fundamental flaw when it comes to health care. The profit motive for an insurance provider is to deny coverage. Covering sick people is an expense. So, the only way to cover everyone and spread the risk pool is to require everyone to pay into it. WHICH WE ALREADY ARE! We are paying for it already only its through various other costs. The Swiss system is now very popular with their people. Initially it was very close to not being adopted there. In that system, everyone is required to buy basic insurance from a choice of companies, kind of like car insurance. The poor are subsidized. Pay in while healthy, and your covered while your sick. Portable from job to job. Sounds like a good life to me. Ummmmm, that,s pretty much the bill being discussed. Write your congressman and tell them you support it.  (Sunday Nov 22 | post #16)

I guess you didnt visit the site: http://thereligion ofpeace.com/ It documents and tally's worldwide Islamic Atrocities. I do not disagree that Islam is a major threat to our constitution. My argument against a military solution however, has gone over your head. There is a very limited military solution to this. Our huge military presence and attempt at nation building in Iraq and Afganistan did not stop a wacko attacking an army base from within. As well as the failure to establish secular governments and laws there. ISLAMIC REPUBLIC OF IRAQ The only long term solution I can see is convincing Islam that Liberty and Freedom are more important than religion. And we have to do our best through cooperation, law enforcement, intelligence networks, and at last resort, occasional covert action to back it up. And finally again, conservatives keep whining about deficits while ignoring the one huge area of expenditures that we just have to cut back on, our global military empire! WE CANNOT MAINTAIN AN EMPIRE ON BORROWED MONEY!  (Sunday Nov 22 | post #102)
