Did you even read the report of the audit results!. I find it a good read if you want to start some place to see the violation's of the law. I was told that a fire official stated that they passed the audit with flying collers.Go read that report it totally contradicts what the people of the fire dept and the public were told.It does'nt matter any way when you live in a town full of spineless jelly fish that gripe and complain but dont have the hind legs to stand on!!.This town has been asleep and taken advantage of.Wake up Harpursville your getting the shaft!. One of the first thing's that Hitler did was force the people to surrender their weapons. I'll bet there were allot of people kicking them self's in the arse when they found out what was in store for them. It's the law's that need to be tougher.I say if you commit a crime and or kill with a gun you should be in jail for the rest of your life period. or impose the death sentance. Where are you Harpursville Fire dept. Where is your web page. I can only find Town Of Colesville Fire Company #1 Listed in Broome County Fire Departments!. You are not listed in the Harpursville Yellow pages in Topix your town your news. (Feb 10, 2009 | post #1)
No I'm not kidding,and too bad you don't get it . Here it is as simply as i can make it for you . Yes they are elected representatives. They could rate us at the same tax% as district 3, But they didn't. The residents of fire district #1 were taxed at the highest % rate allowed by law. They submit their contract to the town board. By law the town board can not deny it they have to pass it and collect the taxes. When asked why we were taxed at 100%, and payed almost twice as much as district 3. The answer we were given was. The fire department of district 3 contracts separately with the town to provide fire protection to district 3. the town board can accept or reject their contract, well they rejected it. So To gain more money for the fire department Of district 3. The commissioners of district 1 raised our taxes to make up the difference!. You are right we do have reps, but they feel they are justified at what they do. By law the residents of district 1 are to enjoy greater benifits like fire hydrants, fire pull alarms,quicker response time,/ect. This is exactly why we had to get information under foil.You still don't get it . Leave the fire men out of it. WE know what they do, and again i say thank you to them!.Now let me explain it very simply so you can stay on track. We have a [fire district] it is called Town of Colesville fire district #1. The residents of fire district #1 pay taxes to district #1 for fire protection. Fire district #1 has five Fire Commissioners,and a treasurer,[they are all volunteers filling these positions]!. That was added respectfully for them!. Fire District #1, its center starting at 2 Main St[the fire house], is a two mile radius extending outward from that point. So if you live within two miles from, or your property touches that line you are in district #1 and you are assessed at 100% value. There are approximately 450 properties that in 2007 paid $70,000 in fire protection taxes for district #1. That equates to approximately $23.00+ per thousand ass ed value. District #3 residents paid $13.00 +or - per thousand!. That equaled approxamatly $38,000 for the Residents of district#3. We asked the Fire Commissioners why the big difference!. We were told the town board would not increase district#3s taxes. So because of the way the law reads, the town board cannot disapprove the budget for district #1. They have to pass it and collect the taxes. [Taxation without representation]!!.[ Thats my opinion].Now Here is where all the information gets twisted into an assault on our Fire men. The law states that only a percentage of our taxes District #1 are to be expended to the [Fire Department of district #3]. Dont quote me but i think its 35%. At a district #1 meeting when a resident asked for an accounting of our tax dollars, A commisioner got in his face and yelled that he couldnt ask questions about the fire department at a district #1 meeting!. This is why foil was used to gain the information requested!!. They didnt like it and turned it into an atack on the fire men, to turn the Fire men, and pubiic against us . Nice try but it didnt work. The information gathered led to an audit that shows that over $13,000.00 is unacounted for from district #1s treasury. And district #3s audit shows over $10,000 unacounted for!.That was for the year 2007.I dont need to check the address you do. my point is that it lookes like we have three fire depts all rolled into one!. I would like to thank the fire men that protect us and our property. I appreciate what you do to accomplish this, the time spent training, time away from family, and responding at any hour in all weather conditions.I would like you to know that the requests for treasurers reports were not gathered for the purpose to bash the fire men as you have heard. It was,and still is a tax question,plain and simple. When i was told it was none of my business how,or for what my tax dollars were used,i disagreed. Some didnt like me exerciseing [our civil rights]!.Well thats to bad for them. I love our freedoms dont you!. I will not let any person tell me i have no right!. I will not cower to any threats or harassments, like a fellow resident has had done to him. I will exercise my rights to their fullest extent, and tough crap if you dont like it!. I tell the truth, You tell a????.
A) I was at the meeting!. B) I have a copy of the minutes. C) My copy states (The president of the Harpursville Fire Company)was asked to explain their intent. He explained the retirement of the 1964 pumper tanker, He explained the need for a new pumper tanker. The new used Pumper tanker (only in service for six months)!. Comes with a factory warranty,it will be leased for twelve years, the cost; $250,000.00 including shipping!. Questions were asked about water capacity,flow rate, and how it would be supplied with water at a fire. There were questions asked,and the answers given that are not included in the minutes of the meeting. And that includes your coments,read your copy. You will be amaised at how many omissions that have been conviently made to make it look like there was no opposion to the purchase. Well ther was!. I rember a request to reconsider.We need a water tanker,not another pumper tanker!. The minutes Of Resolution#38.08 states that the supervisor of the town of Colesville to approve the plan of financing for the Tax-Exempt Borrowing by Town Of Colesville Fire Co No.1,Inc.
