As a friend of the Anzack family, I want to deeply thank the Daily Breeze for running this sad AP Story on the Front Page of your Home Print Edition. This is such tragic news but also bitter sweet. I know that the parents of Sgt. Alex Jimenez and Pvt. Byron Fouty must be heart broken but at least now they know the awful truth and can give their hero sons a proper funeral, with full military honors. I also know for a fact that the parents of Torrence's own Cpl. Joe Anzack Jr. weep deeply at this sad news, as does the 10th Mountian Division Family. So many of us had hoped and prayed, against long odds, that one or both of these MIA 10th Mountian Warriors would come home alive. Damn it! I have no financial dog in this fight but as a retired USN Aircrewman, I simply want to see U.S. Air Force Tanker Crews get the best new Air Tanker Possible. The Air Force choose correctly & fairly. The PR campaign by Northrop is far from B.S., as the U.S. Air Force choose their Airbus KC-45 as the best new Air Tanker, over Boeing's entry, based on the older Boeing 767. Boeing is crying sour grapes, after a fair selection process. Knock off the politics. The Airbus A330 is a superior platform, over the Boeing 767, for our U.S. Air Force's new air tanker. Friends: Death was a `terrible accident'
It seems reasonable to suspect the deceased in this sad case was AUI (Armed under the influence). I withhold further armchair speculation pending autospy results and BAL. Ah hell, let me guess anyway; BAL of the deceased will be 0.16 to 0.22 per cent. Next. let it be more well known that alcohol and gun powder mix no better than alcohol & driving. Some may argue that MADD has gone too far in recent years but we all should thank MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving) for public advocacy that has saved thousands of lives. Perhaps we need a new public advocacy group; FADS (Fathers Against Drunk Shooting). For those who seek to place blame in this sad death, don't let King Alcohol off the hook too quick, or more to the point the deadly mix of too much booze and a gun in one man's hands. Justices uphold lethal injection
Well, the Supreme Court's Decision makes sense. But,I am concerned with innocent people being executed, in error. As my hair greys and my joints pop, I understand more the imperfections of man, individually and collectively. That said, I now consider the death penalty is an exercise in futility. And, no sure gurantee can be made against human failures causing the execution of innocent persons. Man is an imperfect animal, singularly or in any grouping of people. PERIOD! At 69 years of age, I have overturned my life long opinion, of stong support for the death penalty. I would welcome a CA State Contitutional Amendment, to ban capital punishment. I won't hold my breath but show me a proposition with real teeth, for "Life without Parole," for Special Circumstance Murder, that bans Capital Punishment and I will sign it in a NY Minute! No, it was not my conversion to Roman Catholic, in 1996, that overturned my support for Capital Punishment. What convinced me, in 2008, is a retired cop in Florida, who opposes the death penalty, as the only sure means not to execute the innocent.
