Obama promises more than 600,000 stimulus jobs

Match every small business that was in business their sales up to 100K and you'll see jobs flourish. That 787 B would help out 7.87 M small businesses, save jobs, and more create jobs. Have the funds accounted for as to how the monies were utilized within the business and it gets spent into many other industries. That's how you save jobs, and create more of them. Since he's going to spend that much might as well get a big bang for his/our bucks. Small businesses are the key to recovery. Bush tried cash out to the population, Obama tried Oversize Corp when does the middle receive any help? By help I don't mean by pointing out the next job application/waste of time site. We need jobs in the millions now. Small business being any with 0-50 employees. Small businesses buy equipment, supplies, spend locally, and employ when it's affordable to. Money to Wall Street is like lighting it on fire, gone.  (Thursday Dec 3 | post #29560)

TRUCKING COMPANIES OUT OF BUSINESS

Best bet on finding retire funds is look on old statements if it was through a security broker it would be on file, maybe a 800 #? If it was all invested in a company that went out of business maybe check for bankruptcy filings? Some old auto repair customers had a ton invested in zerox shares. They stated they lost tens or more thousands of their retirement fund, that was when they were around 15/share. Last I saw was 4/share. Yikes! Good luck driver hope it works out that your monies are just in an investment account and have grown to enjoy your hard earned retirement.  (Thursday Dec 3 | post #41)

Truck Tonnage Hits Smallest Drop of 2009

Does this mean we're hitting bottom? If it's a race to being out my hand is with chapter 13 unless a lease co wants to return 1 of my trucks. :)As an independent O/O no unemployment benefits, no one hiring in any industry I tried so far, and my upgrade from C to CDL-A isn't looking promising either. If the trend has been drop a percent or more monthly for 20 some odd months the lowest drop in freight means down 20 some odd percent and a lot of the trucks I ran beside on the highways or parked next to at my favorite Flying J,Loves, Pilot, or TA are no better off. If it helps since 04 25% of towing companies my closest competitors have gone out, and I've seen entire fleets 4-5 trucks from well established towers up for sale recently. My 3 went from March to Sep. Right now waiting to see this years yellow pages ads to see who's left to apply to? Have my A now but 100+ apps out and stories like this just say look elsewhere for now.  (Thursday Dec 3 | post #3)

UPS needs 1,000 reinforcements to handle holiday delivery surge

Amazing for all the jobs listed and criteria they use to not allow good people to work, when they have the power in their hands to resolve things specifically credit issues and breaks in employment. Remarkable! For UPS I just watched a train I had to stop for carrying their trailers, and many more companies that state "we need drivers". They call it intermodal. I call it the death of the OTR driver. So much for the service industry jobs.  (Wednesday Nov 25 | post #4)

UPS needs 1,000 reinforcements to handle holiday delivery surge

They do lots of advertising on monster and others with specific areas listed. When you input your zip code it sais none available. The truth is??? Many companies seem to do this same thing, are there any trucking jobs out there? Can some real employers please stand up or remove your listings.  (Monday Nov 23 | post #2)

Ben Bernanke

Local jobless data show weak recovery

Small businesses fuel employment and stabilization of larger businesses. Goes right down to how one builds a business, from a smaller strength comes growth. Maybe the stimulus is the oxymoron. Large corporations greed subdued many person's spending by capturing fees and interest rates escalating. So as people find they cannot keep pace with escalating debts they stop spending. Small business costs per any item sold is higher than the high volume purchases of larger businesses. To cut expenses little by little people lose their jobs. Large creditors shut down credit availability that stabilized the small businesses, so now we give more to the large companies that already forced monies out of the economy. In order for the government to improve the economy they will have to constrict creditor rates, fees, as well as their own strangle hold on the public or small businesses. Restrict judgement payments to lower percentages, tax rates, and allow some ease of recovering from financial losses so many have had over the last year. An economics paper written in 2003 stated the small maybe $100K investment/loan/grant in a small business would generate millions in cumulative taxes. I received an A on that final yet higher levels of education push only higher taxes, fines, and fees on small businesses. Americans need help in allowing freedom, not restricting it. To date this year the restrictions have eliminated my small towing business as a asset for the Rochester community and rather than generating tens of thousands in sales locally I now join the unemployed. I was after 6 years coming close to being able to create job possibilities for others. Oxymoron is the government is supposed to improve lives, not destroy them. My post remains listed as my company name that is no longer functioning, in 2008 I assisted about 1400 motorists and represented 2% of the available public resources.  (Tuesday Nov 17 | post #1)

More holiday shoppers may go cash only, no credit cards

I am surprised there is still so many that are going to feed the credit companies with only slight decreases. With unemployment surpassing 10% of the population it would seem that the remaining working population would decrease overall spending by a much larger extent and destroy most of their cards. Work searches to date since June and to a lesser extent for the last year result in no replacement work. I grew up in the 70-80's before all the massive electronics need to have items. We enjoyed life and were more sociable. Credit was difficult to obtain but, for some odd reason family vacations were possible? If we keep giving our earnings away it shouldn't be surprising we cannot enjoy them.  (Tuesday Nov 17 | post #1)

175,000 Truck Drivers could lose there job

Never any disrespect intended to a veteran of the roads. Grandfathered or not, even if a couple blemishes some million miles later. More gov is in anyone's business the more f'd up it will be for all. Well maybe the remainder will demand higher wages, great! Except the volume that could be moved will be lacking the number of drivers. Will it lead more to rail, and only regional work? Passed school top of my class for the A, added 3 more endorsements, and have driven 3-400K miles in med duty truck/trailers, tow trucks, and rollbacks loaded with 2 cars/lt about 50' long safe no accidents. Recovery work is more local vs the high miles of OTR, my own investments were focused on the 22 states I transported to/through. Working for others I never left the state. Trucking is one of those last frontiers an average guy/gal can still work and travel without a suite&tie. Any interference with that by the gov on top of present criteria/DAK/MVR/C redit etc.. is some serious overkill, like the airports are now, gov can't put together much that works well. Stick to the military, ssi, and basic overseeing and keep Americans working, not unemployed. How well did they do with American manufacturing so far? Remember NAFTA, remember when there used to be steel plants in Pittsburgh, Buffalo, Kodak & Zerox jobs here in Rochester,NY. Gov improved that nicely! Open the flood gates some more, even the illegals will want to leave.  (Thursday Nov 12 | post #21)

Manheim taps UPS supply chain services

Was wondering how long it was going to take big carriers to tap into the towing/lt load O/O market. Might as well AAA already has put 10-15 local 1 truck/auto shop companies out. They have their own trucks in Syracuse and Buffalo last I paid attention to it. At least the major carriers have better know how and maybe can open up decent paying jobs in markets I know better? Last bidding rates I saw on 1 site were as low as .60 per mile, see how that works out. Some wanted cross country for as low as .25 per mile.  (Thursday Nov 12 | post #2)

Felony Truck Drivers

Too much work to earn the A to downgrade it. Used to work with a guy that had the C-with Towing and let it go, then asked me to drive. Only endorsements I don't have are passenger or hazmat. Still searching for any work at this point, try again in a year if trucking is picking up. If not keep on recovering and buy a used semi unit in 3-5 yrs without payments! 20K or so for a truck and triple car haul trailer? If trucks are going for that low as seen on comm truck trader a lot of guys more experienced are out of their trucks, that's sad and appalling! Midnightrider NY-A has T-double/triples, M-Metal Coils(for flatbed?missing on many apps online), N-Tanker, W-Towing, then the X-hazmat, or P?-passenger last two I don't have or really want. Enough responsibility for loads that can't walk, talk, or toxic/explosive. Maybe hazmat 1-200K miles later but at start is enough to haul regular freight. Never let the A go been a dream since I was a kid, now I have it. History of 3-father like figures in trucking so I'm just getting there a little slow so far. 2 Died years ago 1 in his O/O truck in Chicago, 1 had to find a new job last fall last time I saw him at the Ambest when fueling my quad cab trailer hauler. Best of luck to all drivers/or newbees out there.  (Thursday Nov 12 | post #8)

Felony Truck Drivers

Recent grad applying my ace off, no felonies, ever. Had a suspension in 92 listed as 3 speed misdem just resolved and yeah my credit is shot to hell after all my med duty trucks went this year. DMV forgot about it for 17 years until I passed cdl-A permit. So I'm now applying at other industries now. Waiting on my DAC as there's a problem I'm sure. Someone stating drivers with felonies? I don't really see that happening. Trying like hell but, realistically if it ain't my own truck at this point I doubt I'll be in one, what a waste of time and money this industry has been. Driving record prior to TT driving career improvement spotless back to 94. Further back but, that's all the abstracts I have on hand. At least I have a license saying (A) and a bunch of endorsements for what I don't know now? School was useless as well for placement, they can't return a call except to get you in a class. At least the DOT paid for that so I'm not out too much except the business that went out to train for this. Back to where I was a decade ago or so. What a waste! File the B and start over again. No wonder so many drivers are pissed off here! It's driving a truck not rocket science. How strict do they need to be to haul a load of buttwipe, lumber, or any other non hazmat stuff around really?  (Nov 2, 2009 | post #5)

175,000 Truck Drivers could lose there job

Not sure why the government isn't interested in worker's rights, they get to tax every penny a person earns. Lower incomes mean only lower spending, and lower taxes or none paid. If a person can only buy essentials like food then the government earns no taxes. No ability to buy a home, no property taxes, no new car lower/no sales tax revenues, and the government spends what it won't take back in. Too many good people are being hurt, I'm really curious where the outcome is going to end up? Not very familiar with when freight was regulated but, if it is again, the DAC system is going to hurt a lot of good people. It's all a dog chasing it's tail playing out. The article stated adding another system to further put people out of work. One word "Fubar!" Had a clean driving record that I knew of and abstracts back them up going to 94 at least, 90-94 was in the USMC-honorable, and I just ordered my DAC record as I never applied for this many jobs "ever" and can't find work to save my family! At this point my only thoughts are buy my own truck, (again) if I want to drive a rig. This new system is going to help the economy how? Who do you think really is going to sit in a truck 24/7 someone that with a Masters Degree that could earn 70K+/yr? Look at monster.com stats on education levels of drivers. Found a survey related to drivers. Now 175K of them can't work, or will soon.  (Oct 31, 2009 | post #19)

Criminal Defense Law

Pandor: There's no policy

At least they state they would look at the age and how long ago whatever crime was committed. I'm a driver and the DAC system is a joke. If you did something wrong 15 or 20 years prior, paid your fines, then your society duty was done. If it wasn't violence related then give it a rest. People and the economy as a whole can't improve if individuals aren't allowed to. People try to improve through training, gained life knowledge, and internal drive even if learned later. Get the politics out of employing people. All these data bases do really is make good people unemployable except at the lowest levels of society. Continued poverty and poverty for their children will bring about more bad choices. Rather than making 30, 40, or more thousand a year now they're left at minimum wage as an only option. People seeking the use of these systems have basically been played by marketing. A data base system sells it's usefulness profiting out of misery it creates. If a person is qualified, any background has been resolved, then they are as good if not a better candidate for the job they sought after. They had to work harder to get there overcoming an obstacle first. This should be applauded not condemned.  (Oct 31, 2009 | post #1)

new driver

Private trucking schools, state accredited ones will be able to find grants as well, and have placement assistance. Vet? helps with extra grants. Through the first phase now in search, 30 or so apps later, a decent record, multiple search engines. Just an upgrade to larger trucks for me lookin forward to gettin back on the road soon. Don;t worry about the old timers too much, many at retirement age boomers, and hoping that will create a nice vacuum of needed drivers. Couldn't hurt when carriers are fighting for help by increasing wages like the rest of the world does for professionals.  (Oct 19, 2009 | post #6)

Use OSHA to fight Anti-Idle laws

Inverter hooked through a disconnect switch to multiple batteries in parallel. May allow a small heater to run when cold, or fan when hot. Disconnect switch open when stopped, close when truck is running to recharge it. Batteries die, you start the truck then recharge them. May not be 100% solution but, better than subzero truck, or baking in the sun w/no relief. A radiant heater heats up oil inside so even when power drops off it keeps heat for some time. May also be window solar power vents to exhaust heat? Check out a parts store, online, or catalogs? Was stationed in 29 Palms,CA and live in the NE have been in both mentioned. All kinds of gadgets out there save some fuel. If it gets you home it may be worth a shot! Don't think trucks will ever be as comfy as home but, a little rigging can go a ways. Wish all the best. Reply to prairiefire's question - thoughts? Not selling jack! I wasted enough on trying online sales now just driving again.  (Oct 14, 2009 | post #19)
