I found out that I missed the Premiere event which was last night, that is a bummer. Tonight was the second slate (B) of screenings I actually missed the first that will be replaying tomorrow.... • In a summary rap up of the tonights submissions • Apparently, or un apparently...Scoti a has produced a couple of creative eyed young filmmakers. I particularly liked the "Against the Wind" short by from Scotia filmmaker Dan Masucci. It was beautifully written story inside the mind of a man nearing the end of his days, with superb editing and visual transitions. Also the other Scotia young artist Jasson Roberts had a "World Premiere" Interrogation. A fun short about an aggressive police interrogation with a twist. Of coarse Dan's piece "It's Just Coffee" was great. And the Escape Finale by Mike Feurstein which appeared to be a series, that I want to watch more of. One documentary "The Angry Bunny" was a tough watch. I believe in the spirit of filmmaking and the real artistic perspectives that go into independent film or documentaries. This film however was one of the longer of the evening at 15 minutes, and did not have much to it. The documentary was of a serious nature. Exhibiting the strength of a young girl throughout her life of extremely traumatic events and dysfunction, to be moving forward with a successful future. This long of a story of adversity needed a bit more emphasis on the message of over coming that adversity. A positive message for sure, but the short lacked actual filmmaking. With the exception of a few (choppy) cuts to photographs the entire 15 minutes was the young girl talking to the camera. It may as well been a self documentary. I think the eye for a powerful message was there, but the lack of creative editing is where this young filmmaker Vinny Tucceri should put attention into his powerful message and inspiring story. A great event, I am just rosy cheeked that we where able to have such an event in our charming small town this weekend. I only hope this grows each year. I was anticipating that the traffic was going to be crazy for this one...but I didn't realize their would be a travel advisory!! I don't remember the last time they posted one of these. Local Skate camp rolls to finish
I truly believe that it is a great thing. However is there enough local skaters to justify a 500k skate park??? I mean WOW! A half a million on a skate park! No wonder Paterson is speaking about curbing spending. Things like this effect overall state spending. I think a really great skate park could have been easily built for much less. It is a skate park for gosh sake. The taxpayers are thinking it's a great addition, because it is, However when their taxes go up at higher rates they will be mad at the legislators. What is going on when a skate park cost's .5M??? I mean take a parking lot repave it....have some construction created, not the same value as a condominium or apartment complex...I say great...yes build it...great addition...but be practical in design. the downfall to a great premiere event like this is that it falls on a night that the local big time event place SPAC is hosting an old time favorite venue...The Police. I have to commend Dan Defabio for the effort of bringing something like this to the village of Ballston Spa. The Capital region certainly needs something of this nature and there is no other place than Saratoga County. It is a county full of artists and creative people. Sadly it is also full of the technologically un-inclined & nature/farm folk. We are a diversified mix here in the Saratoga county area. I like to call it home. (Friday Aug 1 | post #3)
