people have short memories. Trading Camby and Nene for ANotnio McDyess or Ewing for 3 scrubs instead keeping his expiring contract set the tone and Isiah had nothing to do with those deals. It's the 40 the anniversary of Knicks first title... In Brooklyn, for Knick home games with no home games on TV, we huddled around a AM radio listening to Marv Albert paint a picture of what was happening.. Frazier circles to the top of the key... Passes to Bradley in the corner...YES.. and it counts... Game 7 was on tape delay in NY starting at 11 PM. I fell asleep at half time..before DVR or VCR's. I paid for court side seats when Frazier came back as a Cavalier in '78. (how do you trade Frazier straight up for Jim Cleamons??!!) It was a dark day seeing him in those old Cav black and gold striped prison uniforms. (Friday | post #4249)

all have numbers or longevity issues. If McGuire gets in then the argument for excluding Bonds goes away..and you know that won't happen. Guys who were considered the best at their position when they played but writers now say that they didn't play long enough like Mattngly, Larkin, Alomar, Blyleven are borderline. With the money they make now I don't think we'll see many 10+ year All star players any more. The good ones will chase the big contract thru Free Agency. Gossage is in but Lee Smith is not? .. but what I do I know.. In 1984-85 I thought I was witnessing future HOF players at the beginning of their careers. That was Gooden and Strawberry. Things change.. (Friday | post #78284)
Is there a middle on abortion?
I think we are both on the same page and in agreement... we're just not quite hearing our comments as the same. States still fight the battle to determine who gets what rights...until the Federal government steps in. So not much has changed in 50+ years (Friday | post #31863)
Is there a middle on abortion?
I don't have to look it up. I grew in the 60's and read a paper or two. The Civil Rights and Voting Rights Laws were covered in my school as Current events not history (Friday | post #31861)
You need to read more NY papers. You can do alot when you have the support of the media. Walsh and D'Antoni were hailed as savoirs of the franchise by the media. When they remade 1/2 the team twice last year the media bought into the Walsh statements of 'why make the playoffs if you can't win it all'. They stuck by it all year. The same media would have to admit they were wrong to now come out against them. Nothing wil happen until 2010 when James resigns with the cavs and Wade with the Heat. Then Walsh/D'Anton will have an out when the say 'it's not our fault James took more money to stay in Cleveland'. the Cavs can offer a max contract of about $30 mil more than anything the KNicks could offer. The question is who's con-ing who.. You won't see 'FIRE D'ANTON' headlines anytime soon. MSG just gave D'Antoni a weekly Coaches corner 1/2 hour show. (Friday | post #4246)

it's often overlooked because you can't acknowledge the contrbutuions of the farm system and then say they have unfair payroll advantage and bopught a title. no one whined about the Marlins won a WS and then dismantled the team TWICE while becoming the first WS team to lose 100 the year. If a team can't turn a profit while winning a WS maybe the Yanks are not the whole problem (Friday | post #78256)

Jet Draftees C Mangold, was All-Pro, OLT D-Brick was All-Pro alternate, CB Revis and LB Harris are considered right there. I don't they've had a all-pro at an offensive position since RB Curtis Martin. If you're bringing up drafting Ken O'Brien instead of Marino. they also passed on DT Warren Sapp and OT Anthony Munoz. those GM's and coaches are long gone (Friday | post #78254)

It's no mystery what the Jets problems are. With a healthy veteran QB last year they were 8-3 including 3 tough road wins at Pats and Titans. With a hurt QB still asked to throw 20 times a game and a coach playing prevent D all game they fell to 9-7. Fans and media experts all labeled Favre old and done. when 4 year veteran Clemens couldn't clearly beat a rookie QB with one year of college they knew they were taking chances. Guys who were considered to be playing near all-pro last year like SS Rhodes were supposed to thrive in the new attacking scheme but it hasn't happened. INstead of forcing Turnovers and ball control with the running game , the offense and Special teamas have given up 6 TD's and the Def spends more time on the field than the Off. 5 loses by a total of 15 points is a area that the QB of 2008 could have made a difference in. Especially when you see Favre's last line of 22-24 with 4 TD's. oh well. I don't think the Giants are done. they still have a top QB. Tuck , Osi and Kiwanuka were all unblockable two years ago. It might be more than just the Def. Coord. (Friday | post #78253)

at 6-5 they are just one game out of WC. (just 2 games better than the Jets) Hopefully that G-men pride I keep hearing about will show up. I don't see a Coughlin team playing for draft postion with 5 games left (Friday | post #78248)

Is there a middle on abortion?
the 10th Amendment says "The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people" ....States can do what they want if the constitution doesn't prohibit it. So slavery was legal until the 13th and got to vote after the 15th (Wednesday Nov 25 | post #31859)
Is there a middle on abortion?
They were legal in the States that imposed them. Same battle that led to the Civil War.. most Southern states wanted State rights to be the law. The ex-slaves that it affected had to have generations pass where they were allowed to pursue an education and then the right to vote. In the 60's they challenged Jim Crow in the courts and eventually won. Southern states out in place many laws retricting the rights of others. The constitution didn't say this was legal but States did what they wanted until challenged in court or the Fed government stepped in. Which is what happened in the 60's. When you don't have the right to vote and are atacked just trying to register you won't challenge much. (Wednesday Nov 25 | post #31858)

It doesn't really matter. In previous years the Sox formula was to play near .500 on the road and dominate at home. They came in 2nd in the AL East because the Yanks negated the Fenway advantage by going 57-24 at home compared to the sux 56-25 (the same home record they had in 2008 when Tampa also negated the fenway advantage with 57-24 at home). The Yanks were also 7 games better on the road in 2009. That old minor league park in Boston ain't what it used to be. BTW Its not whining to discuss the MVP vote, it's just pointing out that when you are used to winning and are expected to win individual awards don't matter. Torre came in 1st in the AL East 10+ times, won 4 WS including two consecutive and one a 4 game sweep.. and never was close in the voting for mangger of the year. For most small market teams thats all they can look forward to. Phillies said just by getting to the WS it was a great season. If Yanks had said the same thing it would not have been accepted. All we heard was how the Yanks hadn't won a WS since 2000. The 2003 WS appearance meant nothing different standards different rules. If Yanks had swept the sux 8-0 and then ended the season 10.5 games back in second we would have heard choke used... fenway nation has lower standards and a short winning tradition. Nothing wrong with that, somebody has to come in second... get used to it!!! (Wednesday Nov 25 | post #78186)
