Woman found beaten and man shot in Clintonville | The Columbus ...
On the topic of gun laws, everyone who owns a gun should be required to take a course by a certified instructor on how to use it-and they must pass before being allowed to own a gun. I, too, live close to that house, and it is a tragedy. My heart goes out to the families who will now have one less family member around this holiday season. (Friday Nov 20 | post #18)

Report backs Brown's green-energy legislation
This is great. The green energy economy will mean new jobs for many Ohioans while we transition away from king coal and its harmful effects on the environment and our health. Although the cap and trade bill doesn't go far enough. It gives 80% of the allowances away for free. Utilities do not have a right to pollute. (Monday Nov 9 | post #10)
Livestock care is key in Issue 2 debate
My understanding is that you can get B12 and be a vegetarian. You can get B12 from nutritional yeast as well as cheese. I don't know about veganism, but you can get B12 and be a vegetarian. (Monday Nov 9 | post #280)
Pit-bull-ban proponent Thompson recalled from Whitehall City Co...
Pit bulls are not born viscous animals. It is some who raise them that train them to be viscous. Don't ban the breed, ban the owner from ever owning another animal again-oh yeah, and give them plenty of jail time and a hefty fine. (Sunday Nov 8 | post #96)
COSI's first 10 years in its new digs haven't gone as expected ...
By choice? Not if the other parent is abusive and you have to fleet the situation in order to raise the children in a good environment. Not to mention, some parents may be separated for other good reasons. I agree their should be a single parent discount, but it would be hard to prove. (Sunday Nov 8 | post #116)
Gay-rights bill passes Ohio House
Not all religion is crazy. I am not religious, but do know that there is a wide spectrum of people who are involved in religion. For some, it is an inspiration well and a way for personal development. For others it may help them get on the right path (by that I don't mean religious path, but for those who are abusing drugs and alcohol). Religious groups can do good (Catholic Social Services; mother theresa). If someone chooses one religion over another that is their right; so long as they don't thrust their religion on others. I believe all religions are like spokes on a wheel that lead to the same thing-do good to people, animals, and the environment. Some spokes may be more appealing than others to some, but all leads to the center. It is sometimes easy to blame the religion for actions of people (killing in the name of god or whatever), when in fact it is people who wrap themselves in religion in order to justify what they do/did. As for the after life, all those who know if there is/is not one, are those who are no longer around. (Sunday Nov 8 | post #660)
U.S. EPA orders more safety tests at coal-ash ponds | The Colum...
Good for the US EPA, hopefully they will hold utilities accountable for this toxic material. Not only that, they should have more regulations for the storage of coal slurry. SW Ohio has been nailed time and time again by coal mining companies. Yet, those companies get off the hook. All the more reason to begin switching to alt. energy. (Sunday Nov 8 | post #2)
Livestock-care board, help for veterans sail through
Now that 2 has passed, looks like our streams will be full of it even more so than they are now...looks like our food may be full of it soon to. This would make for a great expose in 10 months-"citiz ens write blank check for factory farms; who are cashing in" (Saturday Nov 7 | post #65)

Issue 2 vote might not lasso a resolution on livestock
Again, HSUS is not the issue here. If they want to put something on the ballot they will-regardless of the b.s issue 2 passing. Right now, the appointees are in the hands of the CAFO lobbyists-so, yeah its not HSUS, but is the other extreme. You say HSUS works on scare tactics, but what did the pro-2 people do? Scare tactics. They were saying that agriculture in Ohio would cease and food prices would double (if not more). Have you read any HSUS proposals and papers? They have a long list of science to back them up. Looking at how issue 2 came to be, it is clear that lobnbying interests in Ohio do not want to allow animals to stand up, turn around, and spread their limbs. Finally, as I've posted before, if HSUS wanted all cows to where bells and whistles, they would have to either go through the GA or get something on the ballot and have the people of the state vote on it. So, to say that HSUS is going to kill agriculture in Ohio is a flat out lie and scare tactic. (Friday Nov 6 | post #83)
Livestock-care board, help for veterans sail through
Again, in reference to the factory farms-or CAFOs-or large AFOs. What ever you want to call them, I would dare to say most have a strong track record of abuse and pollution. I do not need to see this first hand given all of the documentation that has been done. In Ohio there are over 100 of these so-called farms. But, they should not be called a farm. They are a mechanized, industrial facility whose number one goal is not the care for the animals, but to maximize profit by any means necessary. I have no stocks in the stock market, but I don't need to in order to realize the way Wall St. acted was unacceptable. I don't own a home, but I know the way the lending worked was quite predatory.
