Can Propecia Help Me? I am in my 20s and I'm Losing Hair

"Can Propecia help me, I'm in my 20's and losing hair..." Propecia is the only oral medication that is FDA-approved for treating male pattern hair loss. The good news is that it works 90% of the time... keeping you looking 'the same' or 'better' even after five years of use. The clinical trials and published scientific literature back this up, by the way. If you are concerned about hair loss, stopping the problem is important--and Propecia does this quite well. Consider for a moment that men with hair loss WITHOUT treatment will look 'MUCH WORSE' 75% of the time after five years--quite a difference. Side effects are rare and reversible (should they occur), making Propecia truly the mainstay of therapy for male pattern hair loss. Other non-invasive treatments include minoxidil and laser therapy. For severely depleted density, you'll likely need a hair transplant to restore significant coverage. Today's transplants, when performed with artistry and skill are comfortable and undetectable. Seek the advice of a board-certified hair restoration physician and do your homework. Avoid 'free' or discounted consults, 'guaranteed' procedures and treatments. This is medicine, people, it's not like buying a toaster. Sincerely, Dr. Bauman  (Jul 1, 2009 | post #62)

Follicular Unit Transplant to Cure Baldness

Follicular-Unit Transpalntation (FUT) is certainly the state-of-the-art when it comes to permanently restoring your own living and growing hair. FUT uses natural hair groupings (one, two or three follicles) to restore hair in a natural way. A high degree of artistry is needed on the part of the surgeon in order to achieve a result that is completely undetectable. In FUT procedures, hair is harvested in 'one fell swoop' and the gap is stitched closed, leaving a linear scar. The linear-harvest FUT is the method of choice used to move the most amount of hair follicles during one procedure. When combined with medical treatments (like finasteride, minoxidil and laser therapy) which can protect and enhance your other hair, you have a powerful combination to fight hair loss. Another option is a more minimally-invasive type of hair transplant available called "FUE" or Follicular-Unit Extraction, which harvests hair follicles without the use of a scalpel or stitches. The downside of FUE has been the fact that the procedure is slower than FUT. However, new advances in instrumentation, like the NeoGraft device, allow for a more accurate and efficient harvesting of hair in FUE procedures. FUE procedures have the benefit of leaving you with no linear scar in the donor area where the hair has been harvested, allowing for much shorter haircuts than the FUT or linear harvesting techniques. When exploring hair restoration options, do your homework and do not be afraid to seek quality, professional advice. Avoid 'free' or 'discounted' sales-pitch-style DVDs, consultations, procedures, etc. In the field of medicine, you often get what you pay for. Sincerely, Dr. Bauman  (Jul 1, 2009 | post #1)
