Yet more props to Valerie for her insights.I would like to see some of THIS generation of Black women representing like that.They are truly beautiful in their own way and I have nothing but love for them. However,they are choking to death spiritually and intellectually by a dying and decadent system that seems to grasp almost all of us in its talons and then chews us up and spits us out. I work every day with African American teens and I think they get a bad rap(excuse the pun). Are they materialistic?Sure ,but the white kids are WAY more consumerist driven and yet no one says white teens are morally flawed. Oprah lives a life far from the lives of regular folks.That happens to most all"stars "but its sad in her case because I think she has a good heart yet cannot see beyond her elite confines.  (Nov 1, 2007 | post #18)

A lot of people did not survive the Sixties.Many died,burned out on drugs or else live in their own private worlds of anger and despair at the dream that died.Many rotted inside spiritually and can never forget the trauma,physically and psychically,of so many events from those times. What??Many Black men did not know what the effects of drugs in the community were? I beg to disagree.If you came up in the hood,you knew who the junkies were and if you had any sense you didn't want to be like them.You knew how horrible it felt to come home and see your shit gone because some dope fiend needed to feed his jones. I understand that this whole country was built on a gangster mentality.The first thugs landed way back in Jamestown in 1908. I think women are the same all over the world.Like I said,after you account for travel expenses,these women ain't much cheaper. The whole sorry mess is truly sad.The fact is that almost all of us out here are in a state of alienation and confusion over relationships since we haven't the slightest clue how to cultivate healthy humanistic connections. So we go to another race,to another country to another sexual preference thinking thats the answer. She has already stated that she thinks African American kids are way too corrupted by consumerism and she can't do much for them.
