Salvage Rights Sought For Wreck In Long Island Sound
I want to know where you can get $500/ton for steel. That would have made my old truck worth $1000 as scrap (7 hrs ago | post #10)
Blue Trail Range Plans To Reopen 3 Firing Lanes
On one of these boards it was said that on a tv news show a neighbor held out an unfired round as proof that her house was hit. I have not been able to find that video footage. Any suggestions? Can anyone confirm FIRST HAND (as in, you saw it yourself) knowledge of this video? Don (7 hrs ago | post #9)

laughing, While I dont agree with Geo's comments about liberals and conservatives, your comment is also wrong. First Geo's comment - These bushie neo-cons are worse than liberals. They push for big government just like the liberals do. The difference (and I'm using a bit of artistic license for brevity) is that the neocons want big government so they can spy on us. The Libs want big government so they can "help people". Real conservatives (as in minimal government) are flocking to the libertarian party as they find themselves agreeing with extreme liberals on topics like 1st 4th and 5th Amendment protections. LAUGHING - You are wrong. Liberal colleges try to suppres conservative thought. They dont welcome dissenting opinions. I have attended lectures at yale and wesleyan by well known conservatives. The students in both cases tried to shut the event down by protesting and interupting. If the college wanted people to reach their own conclusions they would have enforced order in those venues. Deadly motorcycle accident sparks helmet law debate
Mizz - right. Only in America do people have the right to act stupidly. So long at it does not put others at risk. As strange as it sounds, that is what made america great. Seatbelt and helmet laws are wrong. By the way, I'd never ride without a helmet and I always wear a seatbelt. So I'm certainly not advocating people ride helmetless and drive beltless. its stupid. But thats not the point. The point is that the government should not try to tell them they cant do those things. They are putting nobody but themselves at risk. Don (Yesterday | post #67)

"There is only one fact that no one can dispute: Residents in that area of town, their houses are being hit by bullets," said Francis. AGREED. But where are they coming from?? The front yard? Hunters?? (Yesterday | post #6)
The idiot who wrote this piece thinks people are trying to save money on gas by not mowing?? Hmm. I guess he had never actually mowed a lawn himself or he'd know it cost about $1 in gas to mow the lawn. More likely, the lawn just isnt growing. I haven mowed in 2 weeks and I've given up watering. The lawn is brown. Oh well. I give up. Manny - I have to disagree with you. Mowing the lawn is a great time to drink a beer. Preferably a Bud Light in a coozie. (Yesterday | post #13)

Tony, generally those companies no longer have rights to the cargo. They signed away rights to it when they took their insurance money. Typically the insurance companies want a piece of the action in a case like this. Don (Yesterday | post #4)

I agree, it is pretty disturbing that people are willing to give up rights for the perception of security. What worries me a lot is that people no longer understand and appreciate what liberty means. They are happy to give up their liberties for some government assurance. It might be safety. It might be assistance after a natural disaster. (Remember that well prepared New Orleansians were forced at gunpoint to leave their flooded homes) Thanks, but I'll take self reliance and minimal intrusion any day. However, lets not forget that non-citizens dont have any right to be here. So before we start patting granny down at the airport, lets get rid of all the "students " from hostile foreign countries who are here. What is most alarming to me is the stupidity of NOT profiling. That means my grandmother gets the same attention as the 25 year old Iranian "student " at yale getting his Doctorate in chemistry. Its just insanity. (Tuesday | post #17)
Somewhere - I was being honest about my own internal dialog. I was also telling you that I understood that it was wrong for me to feel that way, but yet those were my honest feelings. an observer - yes it is. I'm not advocating not giving them to people who frankly did it to themselves. Just stating that most people's immediate reaction is one like I stated above. Its interesting that you mention oxygen and smoking. I have a relative who was diagnosed with breast cancer at 30. I also have another relative who died of lung cancer at about 60. (yes she was a smoker). The difference in people's reactions when I told them about each situation could not have been more traumatic. Like you said, it is assumed that anyoen with lung cancer brought it on themself. (Monday | post #39)
nobody wants to deny legitimately handicapped people their parking pass. Some people (however crudely) do raise a good point. If a person is handicapped because they are obese, do they deserve a pass? I dont know, but just wanted to clarify the point. Last week I saw an obese person get out of a Caddi at Walmart in Saybrook. Fine, I didnt really think anything of it. But 15 minutes later we passed in the store. Their cart was full of junk food, juice boxes, etc. I have to tell you that my emotional response was something along the lines of some of these posters. "If this person doesnt care enough about their own well being to eat reasonably, then why should they get a pass?" Of course there may be much more to the whole story than that. i understand that. There may be anxiety/depression that leads to binge eating, etc. But on a most basic level, it seems wrong to reward those who abuse their own bodies. Also, like I said earlier. Its common for the children and spouses to use the lifetime passes long after the recipeient has passed away. That is abuse. (Monday Jul 21 | post #35)

Harry, Seatbelt laws are wrong also. whats interesting is that when they were being debated the argument made was much like the argument I made above about wearing glasses while riding, that wearing a seatbelt allows you better control fo a car in the critical time after an initial impact by keeping you behind the wheel. This makes a belted motorist safer for others in addition to him being less of a risk to himself. I dont buy the argument, but that was one of the arguments made. One of the thing that made America great was the belief that you were responsible for your own well being. It was your responsibility, not the governments. By extension, it was ok to put yourself at risk by your actions, but not ok to put others at risk. Somehow we've goten away from that very basic idea. Its sad and is another example of the wussification of America. (Monday Jul 21 | post #64)

How about at home. Do your part to stop the destruction of America. The weakest generation is in the making. These overindulged little brats will never be able to stand on their own two feet. And its all the parents fault. (Monday Jul 21 | post #1)

Nosey, I agree with the Unabomber and Ok City. In a way I sympathize with Randy Weaver. (He wasnt bothering anyone, he was a tax fugitive) But thats a whole 'nother discussion. Yes, we do have some home grown terrorism. But we all can agree that the threat posed by the likes of Tim McVeigh are miniscule (holding my thumb and forefinger very close together for dramatic effect) compared to the threat posed by Islam. I mean here's a quick list off the top of my head. Leon Klinghoffer Lockerbee Scotland 747 World Trade Center 1993 (about) USS Cole US Embasy bombings Saudi Arabia night club bombing 9/11 Spanish rail bombings UK underground bombings Russian school takeover (500 dead) Nick Berg Danny Pearl Varanasi India bombings So like I said. I look forward to others coming forward with similar lists for Budhists, Sikhs, Catholics. (spare me the Crusades comments) or Hindus. (Sunday Jul 20 | post #15)
Deadly motorcycle accident sparks helmet law debate
But Harry. While your points are all valid. The real question for you is whether you think the government should tell you what to wear or whether it is your right to put yoruself at risk by not wearing proper attire. By the way. While Ms. Rotten have different opinions about helmets, we agree on the most important thing, that wearing a helmet is a choice to be made by the rider. Don p.s. There is one piece of protective equipment that ALL riders must wear by law, and I agree with it. Thats eye protection. The logic goes like this: If you choose to not wear leather, boots, gloves or a helmet, the only one you are putting at risk is yourself. So have at it. But if you choose to not wear eye protection, you are also putting other motorists at risk because you really cant see. (Even glasses are marginal at 60 mph, but its got to be good enough) (Sunday Jul 20 | post #59)
Starbucks to close five Conn. stores
I have always wanted to hate Starbucks. The marketing. The stupid names for their sizes. (its a god damned small!!!) The ridiculous non-coffee coffee drinks. But I couldnt get away from the fact that its good coffee. And their facilities are thoughtfully designed to encourage you to just hang around and read the paper / surf the internet. I hate that I like it, but I do. Don p.s. Dunkin coffee is crap. toilet water. I'd much rather have a McDonalds coffee than dunkin. McD's coffee is really good. (Saturday Jul 19 | post #57)
