House Fire on M-65 in Curran Michigan
Yes, it was a lightning strike, according to Betty Wildfong. This is what the investigators determined to be the cause of the fire and why it was so devastating. (Sep 25, 2009 | post #33)
House Fire on M-65 in Curran Michigan
Yes, very freakish, because it hadn't really been raining. My mom lives on M 72 - 1 1/2 mile in from M 65. The lightening jolt rattled her house. Another friend, who lives just south of Crowell Rd. on M-65 said his house was really rattled by the jolt. Betty herself told me that Summer didn't stand a chance and how the lightening strike just went right into the circuit breaker and throughout the house. (Sep 23, 2009 | post #31)
Grave Robbers in Flynn Valley Cemetery? Someone stole my DAD!
Thanks, Ben. I know your family very well. Your mom is a sweet lady. I hope that you are feeling much better now. They do give the veterans a very nice plaque. My dad's is in bronze on the back of the head stone. Check it out when you are there - over in the northeast corner, second plot in. We also have two family plots and are considering a third. If anyone believes in someone coming back from the dead to get them, then I would be really scared, because my dad would come and kick their a** good! He would be so outraged! Just a side note: A good friend of ours passed away in June '08. He was issued a metal VFW flag holder. It was stolen shortly thereafter. He was buried in a Novi, MI cemetery. I guess it happens everywhere. (Sep 23, 2009 | post #5)
Grave Robbers in Flynn Valley Cemetery? Someone stole my DAD!
Thank you. I appreciate your kind words. I have some thoughts I will be sharing with the sheriff's deputy. It is sad that society has come to this. The VFW can no longer put out classy metal flag holders for the veterans because people steal them - probably to take to the metal recyclers. They are now issuing plastic flag holders. -Julie (Sep 19, 2009 | post #3)
Grave Robbers in Flynn Valley Cemetery? Someone stole my DAD!
Stanley, I couldn't agree with your post more about having respect for the dead, the veterans, and war heroes. How about this one? Someone stole my DAD and his urn out of his grave in Flynn Valley Cemetery. How low can anyone go? My Dad was a World War II veteran and he deserved the respect to be undisturbed in his final resting place! The reason we know that Dad was stolen is that his urn was not buried in the right place. It was November when he passed and there was snow on the ground, so since there were no other graves in the plot, he was placed in the ground. The caretaker told us that when the headstone was set in the spring, my dad would be moved to the southwest corner of our plot in front of his name. On Labor Day weekend, since Dad had not yet been moved to his "spot," we went to move him to his rightful spot. I planted a mum in front of the headstone under his name. We dug in the place where his Veteran's flag had been and he was not there! We dug deeper and wider than needed, but still no Dad. So, we covered the holes back up and decided to contact the caretaker to move Dad. My mother and son went to water the mum on Saturday, the 12th and everything was fine. On Tuesday, the 15th, she and my son went to water the mum again to find that someone had dug up the holes we had dug to try to find dad and the hole I had dug to place him in his rightful resting place. They had left the holes uncovered. The cemetery caretaker was contacted about this to see if he knew why the holes were re-dug and he had no idea what had just happened. He contacted the sheriff department about this wierd situation. The sheriff department asked the caretaker and my mother to come to the cemetery this evening, Wednesday September 16. The sheriff department dug up the whole plot to try to find my Dad. He is truly gone! I can't believe that there is anyone out there sick enough to stoop so low to steal a dead man and his urn. We want his urn returned and may be considering a reward for it's return. If anyone has any information about this, please contact the Alcona County Sheriff Department. Thank you.
