So, city officials have been unable to keep guns, drugs, prostitution, public drunkeness, violent crime, petty crime AND lewd behavior out of the projects, but they think they have a shot at eliminating cigarettes? Does anyone involved in this venture own a thinking cap? (Dec 25, 2010 | post #8)
If the smoking rate is a concern, perhaps Solano should lead the way in lobbying to reduce the price of Nicorette and related products. I've walked into stores looking to try the gum or lozenges to see how they'd help in a day - but you can't go in and buy a pack of the gum, or a tin of the lozenges - you have to pay $60 - $70 for the entire program, not knowing if it'll even work for you. A carton of cigarettes is actually cheaper than ALL of the quit smoking products on the market...kind of makes the money saving argument moot. I don't want to smoke, but I get, to put it lightly, irritated easily without it. Hell - perhaps a simple trial size for sale would drum up some new quitters - even drug dealers let you try the isht first!!! (Dec 25, 2010 | post #5)
Yeah, a longer life is what I desire these days...pass me my smokes! (Dec 25, 2010 | post #4)

Somewhere in Vacaville a teenager just learned that yes, cow farts are flammable! (Dec 25, 2010 | post #8)
Vacaville, you're on the map! Although it's the bay area crime map, but hey, there's no such thing as bad press, right? (Dec 19, 2010 | post #1)
Get 'em horse puckey. (Dec 19, 2010 | post #1)
I have officially read more crime stories coming out of Vacaville than I have Fairfield this past month. Like I've said before, as long as cities turn a blind eye to their neighboring cities plight, it won't be long before the distinction between the two is lost. The only thing Vaca has going for it lately is that it is still a nice looking place. That will change. Soon Dixon will be griping about the Vaca trash spilling into town. (Dec 19, 2010 | post #1)
Once again, for all you literalists, the mall WAS AN EXAMPLE! Maybe she works overnight - maybe she was getting laid - it doesn't matter. Trusting your 13 year old to watch a sleeping toddler isn't an act of neglect. The only crime here is the rape and stabbings. That's it! (Dec 13, 2010 | post #17)
The mall was merely an example - ever heard of one? Maybe she works the overnight somewhere...babysitting your own sibling can include overnight. You just want to rationalize this incident by an adult taking blame for it. That's wrong. No one is to blame but the rapist attacker. (Dec 13, 2010 | post #16)
Since when has it become illegal for a 13 year old to babysit? Last time I checked it was still socially acceptable, and a popular gig amongst teen girls, especially their own sibling. If you want someone to blame for this, how about the kid who came out of nowhere and stabbed and raped his friend's siblings? For all we know the Mom could have just run to the mall for xmas gifts. I was thinking more combating poverty itself, not the impovershed. I do agree that making landlords accountable for who they rent to is a good start. Criminal history checks should take precedence over credit checks if it comes down to a cost issue, since the money lost from property being a slum will outweigh the money lost for evicting a late payer or something. I find that raising rent prices to displace a certain group only creates a problem in another city. And while that may be fine with alot of people, everything comes full circle. You don't cure cancer by moving it somewhere else in the body, and you don't cure crime/poverty that way either, or it will become a problem again. Agreed that Vallejo may be too far gone. Villian, and he relishes the role. He was on a news program being interviewed and stated his main reason for doing this is that it gave him "immense pleasure". While I must admit I enjoy knowing these backroom conversations, I don't feel my right to know trumps National Security. I would support Wiki if these documents revealed something sexy like the US was poisoning children or something, not that they think Karzai sucks and hate Iran. We already knew that, why damage relationships we need to continue diplomacy? Does Assplunge want to be an obstacle to peace? He is just a squirrelly little rapist who wants to be a big name in the world. Enjoy the prison yard! (Dec 12, 2010 | post #6)
