But which Bible? Which texts? Are you talking about the chapters that are recognized now as the Bible, with their numerous contradictions and documented changes by the church and human rulers? Or are you talking about all of them including the Gospels of Mary and the Enochian texts? God's elect? Were we not told by Jesus that through him all men might be saved? So how can there only be an "elect" few that are worthy of salvation? I might have misunderstood what you said so am only asking for clarification. If there are only a few elect that were written in the Book of Life, what was the purpose of Jesus dying "for the sins of mankind"? Would you believe in a worldly leader that killed millions? Or a worldly leader that ordered the deaths of entire civilizations because they wouldn't follow his doctrines? I know you posted earlier in this topic that you didn't believe in killing anything. How can you put your faith in anyone or anything who would do such as that? I don't want you to think I am trying to argue, because that is the furthest thing from my mind. I am just trying to understand. My path leads me down a road where my actions are guided by my internal compass, where I act as my conscience dictates. I believe in diety, but I believe in the diety within every living thing being a part of the Highter Diety of the world around us. I believe that we send out that which we want to receive in kind. I don't believe in a hell or a heaven. I don't believe that anyone is preordained to do anything or be anything. We are what we make of ourselves. I believe that a man named Jesus, afterall it was a common name during those times, existed, but I don't believe he was the son of God, of any god. I believe he was a man that through his very difference created a following of people that claimed he was the son of God. I believe that the Bible might have been a story of his life, told by people who wanted to build up that belief, that they themselves wanted to believe. I think his story started off with good intentions, but that through the cruelties and arrogance of mankind became a twisted story used for self promotion and profit and as a form of control over the masses. Again...just my opinion. (Jan 30, 2011 | post #735)
Hey, Clark! Good seeing you again. Not trying to talk sense into them just trying to understand where they are coming from is all. Will check back later...have a research paper to write. (Jan 30, 2011 | post #727)
I hope you don't take this as argumentative because it isn't my intention, but what is the fascination with an "end of times" belief? How could any benevolent god wish to create such destruction? I wouldn't call that a loving god. To me it sounds like fear mongering and forced belief. "Believe in me or die." That is not free will, that is a hostage situation. I was taught that faith was based in love and grace, and belief that what I had faith in was supposed to make me a better person. Instead what I see is faith leading to exploitation, hate, and intolerance towards those of different beliefs. How many have considered that we all actually believe the same thing? That we all believe that there just might be some higher power out there, that we all just have a different name and a different aspect of that higher being? That what one culture calls God, another calls Allah or Thor, or Sky Father, or or or or... There is not one true religion. All religion is true in the hearts of it's followers. In all honesty, I completly agree with you on all counts, but again we go back to the irresponsible few that ruin things for the rest of us. I am not against gun ownership, contrary to how my initial post might have sounded, but I am for stricter regulations on who can own guns and what guns they can own. Exactly. It is time to stop punishing the responsible majority for the actions of the irresponsible minority (Jul 16, 2010 | post #265)
Interstate Love Song - Stone Temple Pilots (Jul 16, 2010 | post #1130)
I completely understand where you are coming from, but the difference is that you appear to be a responsible gun owner. Unfortunately, in today's society, responsibility is a concept sadly lacking in a large portion of our population. Do I want Jim Bob sitting there with his case of beer playing around with a semiautomatic military style firearm in the apartment next to me? No, I don't. Again, unfortunately, we have to take into consideration the idiots with the responsible, and the responsible tend to have to pay the price for the idiots. (Jul 16, 2010 | post #263)
LMAO!!!! My ex and I had some drunk guy break into our house one morning and he was met with both of us standing there with swords in our hands. My ex had a very nice hand and half and I had a rapier blade. I thought the guy was going to pee himself...and then our little wiener dog jumped up and bit his ankle LOL. That poor guy was so scared he complained to the cops...not that he got bit but that we had pulled swords on him. (Jul 14, 2010 | post #254)
