Rules for YANKEES

Your posts seem awfully like this statement...look in the mirror.  (Tuesday | post #11)

Rules for YANKEES

There's definitely an identifiable culture up north, and don't you think otherwise. It's just a little more fractured and regionalized than that of the greater South, but there none-the-less...the NYC/TriState area, Boston, Maine, Upstate NY, Pittsburgh/Western PA, Ohio...all of these areas have unique social/cultural elements. I tend to get in a conversation about it whenever I meet another former Yank down in these parts (and you know there are a lot of them...)  (Monday | post #7)

Should Bill Toole Resign from Belmont Council Race?

That's a great idea...I should have written him in for Mayor!  (Wednesday Nov 4 | post #159)

Please recommend realtor in Belmont

I bought my house w/ Becky Adams from Allen Tate (out of their Gastonia office) I think she was excellent, and knows Belmont as well as the overall general area very well.  (Thursday Oct 22 | post #31)

So...2 good ol' boys and 2 relative newbies (who have still been around for more than a year or two, just not as long as the incumbents.) Still, it shows what the fight is...familiarity or new blood that have progressive ideas about how to guide intelligent growth in the community. The fact that the "locals" seem to pin the reason for the non-incumbent's candidacy on the toll road issue is unfortunate...the toll road is really a sub issue (yes, can you believe it's me saying this?) to the overall idea of intelligent growth.  (Tuesday Oct 13 | post #99)

Vote Here! Belmont NC City Council Race 2009!

I don't think you can consider Bill Toole a "one-issue " candidate unless you consider that issue to be unchecked growth. The toll road is just a subset of this problem, but has been a very publicly aired one. I don't think he's running for council *just* because of the toll road issue... Further, as has been outlined in other posts, the council race isn't a partisan position...it makes no difference what anyone's party affiliation is, or if they even have one.  (Tuesday Oct 13 | post #117)

City Council Endorsements

I think Rich Turner and Bill Toole would be a great combo to intelligently steer Belmont's growth! In addition to the Turner website, also look at www.billtoole.com  (Oct 6, 2009 | post #13)

WHO CARES?!?! Are you that narrow minded that you only vote on party lines? The two party system is the bane of American politics! Look at what the candidate has to offer and decide for yourself!  (Oct 6, 2009 | post #12)

String Bean Reviews

Have to agree w/ you Big John...Don't know much about the wine, but for good local beer selections also check out H&M Deli in Cramerton, and the Shell OmniMart (believe it or not) on Wilkinson across from the Burger King...  (Sep 21, 2009 | post #43)

String Bean Reviews

I try to remind myself that a good sandwich takes some time to prepare, and keep thinking it's the northerner in me that keeps my foot tapping when I'm waiting. Perhaps I'm not as off as I think I am if others are being annoyed by the slow service! My biggest peave about the Bean is that if you want to-go food and a 6-pack you have to pay twice (separately, I mean). I wish they could figure out how to have the take out beer/wine prices on the food register...  (Sep 15, 2009 | post #25)

Kids walk and wheel their way to class

I guess it's a good thing, but it's hard not to find it sad that walking to school has to be organized as a community event... When I was in school, if you lived close enough, you just did it...no fanfare or special shoe tag punches.  (Sep 7, 2009 | post #2)
