Chapman makes a silly argument again, as his is wont to do regarding Second Amendment issues. It is reasonable that people who carry weapons and drive keep them in their cars. What are they supposed to do with their guns when they are on private property? It is only sensible that they lock them up in the car. They are not carrying guns into the workplace. The guns cannot be used when they are locked up inside cars in the parking lot. Granted, it is not 2nd Amendment in the sense that government is doing the infringing; but government is requiring an accommodation to legal gun owners by private parties that are infringing on those rights. Chapman gets it wrong again. (Aug 24, 2008 | post #55)
Let's face it, Clarence Page cannot see beyond race in this election. He's in the tank for Obama and has been since Day One. If you want objective or thoughtful opinions, read elsewhere. (Aug 24, 2008 | post #336)
Olympics end on high note for China
It was a fabulous spectacle. Kudos to the Chinese people. I only wish NBC had done as well by half in their spotty coverage. (Aug 24, 2008 | post #2)
IOC to investigate Chinese gymnasts
Why the hell is there an age requirement? China had the best gymnastics teams. The spoiled, bleached-blonde bimbos on the American team need to get over it. (Aug 22, 2008 | post #52)
Teachers union official bounced by executive board
Perhaps you should read the Constitution and Bylaws of the CTU. The House of Delegates is the Supreme body of the Union. All actions of the Executive Board are subject to the House of Delegates. This was no trial. Marilyn "Mumbles " Stewart, the dirty rotten scoundrel that Larry Poltrack put in charge of his bought-and-paid-fo r union, controls the Executive Board. They are all her people, bought and paid for by perks, like their $60 stipend and free meal for attending the meeting. There were no rules of evidence or witnesses called. It was purely a kangaroo court. There should be plenty of fireworks at the September 3rd House of Delegates meeting. Too many members have caught on to the fact that we have a tyrant in Mumbles Stewart. (Aug 21, 2008 | post #14)
Obama: Voters to Judge Issues, Not Race
Though I am no more inclined to vote for Obama than before reading the speech, I think it's only fair to take him at his word here. He is sincere and means what he says. Of course, just because he explains The Truth as he sees it, doesn't make it True. There are many people in the Obama campaign, including his wife and former pastor [note to Marie S: Wright is his "former" pastor because he has retired, leaving a new pastor at the church), who continue to play the so-called "race card" at every chance. It sickens me to see the Obama campaign sully the names and reputations of people who have spent their entire adult careers working on behalf of civil rights and social justice. This speech does nothing to change the tenor of an ugly, racist campaign. (Mar 18, 2008 | post #36)
Nothing about how/when Chicago Public Schools will implement this? Geez, you'd think the Tribune reporters who wrote this clap could find someone in the state's largest school district to interview. (Oct 14, 2007 | post #45)
Southwest Airlines makes man change T-shirt
I like Southwest Airlines, but they don't have a presence at O'Hare, and Midway is such a long trip for me. Your constitutional right to free speech is only where government tries to restrict it. Private companies like Southwest are free to do so. Maybe master baitor Joe Winiecki needs a lesson in grade school civics. Having said that, I would probably have let him fly, although after giving him a look of disgust. Joe Winiecki--you have a great sense of humor. For a twelve-year old. (Oct 8, 2007 | post #297)
Parents' input - not book - gets banned
I've been a teacher for 18 years. Believe me, the only input schools really want from parents is cash. Public school administrators and teachers in general think they have some consitutional right to usurp a parent's authority over what a student is taught. (Oct 8, 2007 | post #1)
Thank goodness Bush learned something from his mistake in pushing through the prescription drug coverage boondoggle a few years ago (in an attempt to buy the votes of the elderly). The unfounded expansion of SCHIP into a middle-class entitlement program is both unnecessary and dangerous. The incentives are in the wrong place, thus jeopardizing the private insurance system that is working quite well for the majority of Americans. Democrats may whip up their congregation with fiery orations about Bush's cutting off health care for children (in order to buy votes for the next election), but it's all lies and propaganda. Another entitlement program? Talk about a quagmire. (Oct 6, 2007 | post #1510)
