For now, Vikings' Tarvaris Jackson happy to watch, learn from B...

I wonder if all these so called experts who are predicting Jackson's limited future with the Vikings are the same so called experts who wanted the Vikings to sign Jay Cutler. How'd that work out for that team that signed him? Through week 10 passer rating of 76.2. Ouch!  (2 hrs ago | post #85)

Authorities confiscate Wis. beer from Manhattan bar

Liquor carries both federal and state taxes on it. Wine carries a state tax on it as well as beer. As a matter of fact the second largest revenue for the United States Treasury is the tax on liquor, only bested by the income tax. So go brew your own white lightning if you you want to avoid paying the tax. Jest watch out for dem revenue agents. They'll bust up your still if they ketch ya.  (5 hrs ago | post #16)

Pawlenty: A Super Bowl ring won't get you a stadium

Whoa Wilfman. Get your facts straight. The stadium will be built and owned by Majestic Realty Co., a whole owned subsidiary of an wealthy real estate developer Ed Roski. No ground will be broke until he gets a signed agreement approved by the NFL to move a team to LA. NO PUBLIC MONEY IS INVOLVED IN THIS APPROVED STADIUM DEAL. Saying that every sports arena, every convention center, every major league or minor league sports teams have always been played in a publicly funded facility in the State of Minnesota, forever. And that is what angers most fans. The Vikings are asking for something that this state has a long history of doing. But Palenty with his anal view of potential funding resources to help the state get through this current financial crisis we are in, and then all this yutz wants to do is cut more services instead of looking at creative ways to increase revenues and provide financial support for the Vikings. The real shame of this whole disgusting episode is this is something that could have been handled several years ago before the economy went into the tank. Minnesota politicians are worse than ambulance chasing lawyers or better yet a snarky used car salesman. They have become bottom feeders. All of them. Both party's.  (14 hrs ago | post #97)

Pawlenty: A Super Bowl ring won't get you a stadium

First off I admit I voted for Pawlenty. I thought at the time he was truly interested in growing the state. What has emerged is a one-trick pony. Politics is all about give and take. Pawlenty's view is "my way or the highway". A true leader gets the differing sides together to work out the differences and attempt to come to an agreement. He is no leader and talking about him being a viable candidate for President in 2012 is one big sham.  (23 hrs ago | post #72)

Take the fine money and split it with the passengers. Those were ones screwed by inept airlines who failed to handle a situation correctly. All three airlines were complicit in this case.  (Tuesday | post #4)

Minnesota Vikings owner Wilf goes straight to legislators

Every stadium or arena in the Twin Cities has always been under "governmental " or public control or built with government help. University of Minnesota's various arenas and stadiums, old Nicollet and Lexington Ball parks, Midway Stadium (the original and the present), Metropolitan Stadium, Parade Stadium, Minneapolis Armory, Convention Center, St. Paul Auditorium, Xcel Center. There are maybe a couple I forgot, but I made my point answering your question.  (Tuesday | post #205)

Here is what is truly amazing. My point went way over your head worse than those NWA pilots and missed your landing strip. The point I made was you plan for the future. That is a fiduciary responsibility of those who are elected to office. Every city has to plan for future repairs or expansion of existing infrastructure and that is what a Capitol Improvement Bond Committee does along with recommending allocating funds to do those projects. Then that is forwarded on the the Council who approves or adjusts the Committee's recommendation. Then the Council authorizes the issuance of bonds. I did not even say anything or suggest that St. Paul has a better system than any other incorporated city. That's just the way it works. Apparently again someone who can't see past the nose on his or her face.  (Tuesday | post #204)

One more comment on this subject. In today's paper out here, Majestic Realty Co., the company who will be building a new stadium in LA when they are approved for a NFL team reported they have already received inquiries about buying seats. So far they have received 105,000 applications for general admission seats, 36,000 for club seats and about 3,200 for luxury boxes. Personally, I still think that the San Diego Chargers who were originally the LA Chargers are primed to move back up north if they can't get a stadium deal done. The NFL considers all of Southern California to be a home Bolt's market for television purposes and revenue.  (Tuesday | post #201)

The amazing and interesting thing about this this thread is how many do not seem to grasp that building a new stadium now and doing it right is an investment in the future for the whole state. If done correctly and not halfass like the Dome was, the stadium will repay itself. Unfortunately some have trouble, you might say, thinking beyond the nose on their face. I have for many years been involved in budget planning, worked for many years on St. Paul's CIB Committee where future planning was an intricate part of the committee's responsibility. How do think new library's were built or widening of streets were done for example? By throwing a dart at a map? Ahh, not exactly. You plan a sustainable program working with city department managers, present it to the City Council for approval and then sell GAO municipal bonds to pay for the various projects. One of my favorite sayings is: "If we could only see tomorrow with the eyes of today." Some people have a great deal of trouble even seeing today.  (Tuesday | post #200)

No that is your MO. I actually can think for myself without any crutches. I don't resort to simplistic remarks about Daycare like you. Bring some facts to a discussion, not childish retorts. Be a man not a mouse, Mickey.  (Tuesday | post #194)

Brett Favre has impressed Vikings with his work ethic as well a...

The best thing Favre has brought to this team besides the obvious wins is that being in the NFL is not a gift. That it requires attention to detail and putting in the extra's that separate the average from the great. I can only hope that the backup QB's on this team are paying strict attention to his work ethic.  (Tuesday | post #2)

Every professional sports team and players, etc. that plays in Minnesota pays a percentage of their income to Minnesota as well as any state that has an income tax. Now I do not know what those figures are but it is one helluva a lot of income to this state that it will not have if the Vikings leave because DFL legislators on the dole from the indians and a lame duck GOP Governor who has a phony policy about about no new taxes and is against putting up a state run casino. A bunch of blind mice running this state.  (Monday | post #147)

If this stadium issue had been handled properly by the Minnesota Legislator's and our lame duck Governor when it first was addressed, the Vikings would probably be playing in it now and the stadium would have cost less than what it will cost today. Between our "no new tax" (just fees, but they don't count as a tax) Pawlenty and the DFL legislators on the dole from the indians, how can a new stadium ever get built? Put slot machines at the airport and at the Mall of America. We already have a gambling commission in place. Negotiate with Wilf what his financial part is, transfer that 1/2% tax back to paying for the new stadium and issue bonds to pay for it. Then add naming rights and take 50% of the net revenue from the luxury boxes for 10 years to repay the debt. There a lot of ways to accomplish this. You just have to think outside the box. Unfortunately some people including some who post here just do not have the mental capacity to do that.  (Monday Nov 23 | post #55)
