How about tobacco? It is proven smoking tobacco of any kind will kill you, but the tobacco lobbyists and politicians keep it legal because they get paid from it and don't care about your health or it's price to society in cancer, heart attacks, vascular disease, dementia, kidney disease and COPD. Bans on drugs are motivated by bigotry and ignorance, and not science or fairness. Our bible banging forefathers banned alcohol cause they hated immigrants. I agree with you. If an individual does not have "cash in hand" or "insurance ", they should not go to ED/hospital and expect care. If I can't afford to get my brakes fixed on my car, I shouldn't expect the mechanic to help out, or anyone else for that matter. I understand your logic. As for your doctor coming to the hospital, well, we'll have to agree to disagree. I've seen it. Prayer? It is a business--owned by the citizens of Cookeville, who, as you know, are quite into prayer. I find it odd, that the citizens of Cookeville don't wish to have more control over what happens at "their" hospital. (Apr 12, 2012 | post #25)

Free? Oh no, they are still earning for their work AND getting an extra kickback for blessing us with their presence. That is their job. Agree with the last post. The hospital is owned by the city. It makes it's money for the city, and if citizens want it to run a certain way, they should inform their councilman. Many doctors have too busy an office to also see their patients in the hospital. How many of you actually think your doctor spends enough time with you in the office? Hospitalists are a desire of private doctors and hospitals to be sure a doctor is always available and IN the hospital when needed. All doctors can visit their patients regardless of privileges--they can visit their patient and discuss the care with the Hospitalist, but many don't WANT to. Also, most doctors in cookeville won't see patients unless the hospital pays them to come. Next time you see a cookeville doctor, ask him about it. The city is getting taken by doctors who don't want to do ther job, I.e. ER call, without getting paid. The hospital should not allow doctors the pricilege of using the city's resources, i.e. the hispital and OR, if they have to be paid. That's the city's money!! The doctors and administration are like a mafia. I also heard they denounce any religious affiliation, and won't let employees pray while at work. Hmmmm. (Mar 31, 2012 | post #16)
