106 backpacks for the children of Moberly
The people responsible for this backpack program deserve credit for having such compassion and for being brave enough to do something different that can make a difference to a kid. This is the kind of thing that inspires people to do more. (Tuesday Nov 24 | post #8)

Anybody know what the story is with the new Mexican restaurant? The one where China Chef used to be - seems like they've been working on it for a couple years. (Friday Nov 13 | post #1)
you will want to look-up "lame duck" - you're apparently confused as to its meaning. it is the old President's period of time between the election of a new President and the innaguration of the new President. and "at least he wasnt an ego centric narcisstic person that is all smoke and mirrors" REALLY???? a very simple argument could be made that that is exactly what he was. please elaborate, and in your explanation please include the fact that we invaded Iraq because they had WMD's. they don't/didn't. we're still there. smoke? mirrors? Educate yourselves please. "Obama has already spent more than Bush did the whole time he was in office" 1. The huge bailout packages were created during George W. Bush’s term. He worked extremely hard to get them approved and pushed through so that the biggest banks, the biggest insurance companies and the Wall Street elite could have more money. 2. Obama is a liberal, he would likely have spent freely anyway, but his huge spending is vital due to the unbelievable mess he was left with. 3. Do you realize that Bush - a "conservative " - spent more money and made government bigger than ANY president before him? Do you realize that what he spent is greater than EVERY other president before him COMBINED??? To compare his rate of spending you have to look all the way back to FDR, and even then the huge government spending FDR did was an effort to stimulate the economy and create jobs. Bush's huge spending - please prove me wrong - was an effort to create more wealth for the already richest 5% of our country. I'm in favor of small government and very limited government spending, but after the complete mess the Bush/Cheney era created the government now basically has no choice but to pump money into the economy in order to revive it. The alternative is to not pump the money and the programs in, which will stifle any growth and things would likely look very similar to what the U.S. experienced in the early 1930's (the great depression). Once Hoover's conservative approach was gone and FDR's spending kicked in, things were on the mend. Hate to say it, but: Make no mistake - our current economic downtown is absolutely the result of not having enough regulations in place on Wall Street, and depending on the free market to regulate itself. Our system promotes greed and corruption and runaway debt that will eventually bite all of us. Please go on defending Bush - and Bush's mess. It can't be easy to do. (Nov 3, 2009 | post #8)
i'd bet a paycheck he's one of those people who got all fired up about "death panels." Sorry, but good health should be more of a basic human right - at the very least it shouldn't be something that so much of our economy is based on and it shouldn't be advantageous for some when others are sick and in need of basic care. our current system has a gigantic flaw in that it allows a huge amount of corruption and influence from insurance companies and drug companies. It's Disgusting How Obama Can't Stop Attacking Bush
It is far more disgusting that people have so many completely letigiment reasons to attack Bush! Obama isn't providing the hope he promised, but the Bush/Cheney era made a huge mess to be fixed. RON PAUL! (Oct 30, 2009 | post #381)
stand up and make No apoligy"??? Dude, you should make an "apoligy " for your spelling errors and loud-mouth, misguided information. I could point out a top 10 list of reasons why you obviously don't know much about this topic, but I doubt you would actually consider a sensible perspective. (Oct 29, 2009 | post #17)
A better question than "Do you support ...." is "Do you have ANY understanding of President Obama's Health Care Proposals?" If your answer is based on right-wing talk radio/Glenn Beck/Rush/Hannity then I'll answer for you: No. (Oct 29, 2009 | post #16)
What are the schools teaching?
Your teenagers use all but 1 to 2 of there weekday hours at home studying? So your contention is that the schools aren't teaching kids basic history lessons (like the original significance of the 4th of July) and they're not teaching the very most basic lessons in geography (like which states are east of the Mississippi River)??? Admittedly, I'm not familiar with what goes on in schools, but its a pretty good bet that the required learning includes those things. (Oct 26, 2009 | post #5)
What are the schools teaching?
This attitude is a big part of the problem. It is too easy to push blame to schools and teachers instead of taking responsibility for your kid’s lack of basic learning. It cannot be wise to rely so heavily on schools to program children, instead of providing the necessary structure at home, where they spend most of their time and develop the biggest part of their values. If kids are constantly pre-occupied with TV, movies, video games, recreational internet use, etc, then blaming schools and teachers is simply an excuse. Seriously, what do you think has changed more since we were students – the material being taught to the student or the amount of outside influence the student is exposed to? Kids today are exposed to an average of 5000 advertisements per day – they are bombarded from every possible angle. http://www.nytimes .com/2007/01/15/bu siness/media/15eve rywhere.html Clearly, the basic material being taught is not what has changed. In fact, I doubt it has changed much at all. (Oct 21, 2009 | post #2)
